Nagaru Tanigawa is a graduate of the Kwansei Gakuin University School of Law. In 2003, he won Kadokawa's Grand Prize for Literary World for his work on the Haruhi Suzumiya series.
Honestly, anything that involved the new character ended up being pretty predictable, but luckily the formula was still creative and well written, so as much as it couldn't have been any surprises, I still felt relieved to read something decent.
I would say that the writing bent well, giving its little subtleties to indicate ignorance to something new, which while in the reader's view it was something obvious, it didn't serve as those annoying mystery novels where the author was always one step ahead of the reader, because things merge and merge in such a confusing and complex way that you don't really know where everything is going
Although I have my criticisms regarding the constructed mystery, the other works with less construction expanded the creativity of the script where the terms "in prohibition" begin to walk towards a more concise and liberating straight, allowing the reader's mind to fly between the organizations in search for a decisive result
We certainly have some conveniences in terms of danger or gravity (as well as a girl right next to a certain window), but honestly, I chose to ignore them this time and just follow the fun, conspiratorial vibe of the script, which I liked a lot.
Thank you, SOS brigade, your fame is remarkable, so you have certainly fulfilled your duty to spread the pandemic of smiles around the world (yes, the pleonasm was on purpose).... I mean, if mother nature can oppose us humans with the creation of a virus, why couldn't we do the same to oppose world sorrow?
Yes... You may have let me down a lot, but I definitely feel happy for this ending.
"Yo no tengo ningún hermano.
A beautiful, and touching ending for a series. I mean, it's a strange feeling, I hope the story of SOS can be continuing, but also hope this book is the end, because after you read this, you will probably got a feeling which just like watch "Toy Story 3".
The much-awaited finale to the Haruhi Suzumiya series certainly did not disappoint it's hardcore fans. The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya picks up where The Dissociation of Haruhi Suzumiya left off. In the second part of this book, we see the two alpha and beta timelines. Much of the first half of the book is slow-paced and basically building up of the second half. It seems like a bore until you reach the second half where all the action happens.
Fans of this series would have already guessed that the concurrent timelines would merge later into the book, but the situation at that time takes you by surprise. I found the Kyon rambling on much more in this book than all the rest, especially in the first half, but as I said before it's all building up to the events in the second half. Considering I was reading an English translation, it may not have the same effect as that of the original Japanese version However, since my Japanese is not that good yet to read entire novels, I'll have to be content with the English version for now. The phrases and analogies in this series are all quite peculiar - Nagaru Tanigawa sure shows quite depth in his characters and their personalities.
The story had a good climax - there was resolution (somewhat) of the claim by the rival Sky Canopy Domain (that's what it's name was in the translated version but I suppose it must be cooler sounding in Japanese) over who should possess Haruhi's god-like powers. Personally, I felt Sasaki would be a better candidate to hold them but then if she did, there would be no story. Haruhi does make things interesting and fact that till the end she is ignorant (consciously) f her powers is not ideal but good nevertheless. I liked the interesting bit about Yasumi Watahashi and Fujiwara. Although, I would have loved more back-story about the event that Fujiwara refers to, alas, it didn't come. Anyways, I hope that Tanigawa publishes a short story about the history between Fuijwara and Asahina sometime in the future. I must also mention that certain little pieces of the story made me quite happy with Tanigawa - the future that Kyon jumps to where he meets a grown-up Haruhi (I like the fact that Kyon is around her even then - I totally ship them), Tsuruya (possibly) calling Kyon by his real name and Taniguchi's hilarious account of his brief romance with Kyou.
While I am happy with the final book of the series, the open ending of the finale sure makes me hope for any further additions to the series.
English title: The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya Part 2
The latest but not last volume in the Haruhi Suzumiya saga continues directly from Book 10. In the Alpha timeline, the SOS Brigade is going about its everyday business while training new recruit Yasumi Watahashi, and everything seems absolutely normal. But over in the Beta line, Yuki is still incapacitated from the Sky Canopy Dominion's attempt to communicate and Kyon is trying to deal with the triple threat of Fujiwara, Tachibana and Kuyou Suou.
Being the last book of the Dissociation/Surprise trilogy, everything's wrapped up here in a mostly satisfying manner. I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't get to see the fight between Fujiwara and Koizumi or the IDSE interfaces go against Kuyou again, and the explanation of Fujiwara's future hurts my brain -- I think I understand the model of time travel Tanagawa is using, but there are so many unstated assumptions about how things work, and this volume just adds ambiguity.
The ending resolves all the major plotlines from the last three books while setting hooks for the next volume. Personally I'm hoping for another short story collection dealing with things like the flower viewing, Kyon's school reunion (more Sasaki please), and maybe some romance between Tsuruya and Kunikida. Hopefully Tanagawa won't take two years this time.
This book end the Story and Rainy Day is the Story that show how different is Sasaki From Haruhi. I would like see more about Sasaki and how Haruhi would face her.
