Will the Race for Love trump the race for their futures, or can Kisima and Derek both find the success they’re longing for in each other’s arms?
RACE FOR LOVE is a BWWM Interracial Contemporary Romance with steamy sexual tension and strong language.
Wall Street Journal & USA Today Bestselling author, Nana Malone writes Sexy Feel-Good Romance and loves of all things romance and adventure.
That love started with a tattered romantic suspense she "borrowed" from her cousin. It was a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana, and Nana was a precocious thirteen. She's been in love with kick butt heroines ever since. With her overactive imagination, and channeling her inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before she started creating her own characters.
The “Donovan Series” from Nana Malone is one of my favorite family series’. Once again this author rewards her readers with an amazing story about Derek Donovan and Kisima Jennings. The book, “Race for Love”, does its title complete justice. I more familiar with reading stories about male car racers, so seeing the sport from a female’s prospective was informing and rewarding. The story is an intriguing attention catcher that you will not want to put down until you read the words, “The End”. I don’t do spoilers, so if you want to get in on the fun, I suggest that you do not sleep on this newest release from Mrs. Malone. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. T
**I received an eARC of this book from Xpresso Book Tours in exchange for an honest review.**
I really liked this book, it was addicting from the very start. The plot was more than just romance. I loved the characters, they were intriguing, different and diverse. When I requested this book, I didn't know it was a part of a series, nonetheless it can be read as a complete standalone. Also, I usually don't go for sports romances but this one was damn good and was throughly enjoyable.
Summary-
Kisima Jennings is a race car driver for the Daniels. She has been groomed from her childhood under TJ Daniels who she considers a father figure. But in one race, she undergoes a fatal crash and to get back in form for the next race in three months, she reluctantly agrees to train under a star athletic trainer, Derek Donovan. When they meet, sparks fly. But both of them are hesitant at first, Kisima has suffered from a heartbreak and she didn't want a relationship again anytime soon and Derek had made a mistake which almost costed his entire career. But they have a hard time staying away from each other. Meanwhile, Kisima remembers something about the crash and she finds out it was not her fault at all, somebody was trying to kill her and if that person is not caught, her life maybe in danger all over again.
Plot-
The plot was really good. It had the perfect combination of romance and suspense. It was told in alternate POVs of both the characters, so it was easier to understand what they both feeling and going through. I loved the way the romance was build up. Though their attraction was instant but they had a lot of arguments and the tension build up slowly between them before they finally gave into each other. I definitely liked the thrill ride. Someone was trying to kill Kisima but nobody had any idea who it could be. Though Kisima pointed out someone, I knew it was definitely not that person, I was suspicious about the actual bad guy from onwards the middle of the book and I was pretty glad to find out that I was right, though the plot twist was really good and I was surprised to find out as so many truths came out. I loved how all of it was executed.
Characters-
The characters were pretty awsome and diverse and I fell in love with them. Every one of the characters were fresh and they had their unique point. Kisima was a strong character, she was hard working, passionate and caring. She loved racing cars, it was her dream. Though she was very scared to go back into the racing tracks or getting into any car, she eventually overcame that fear through the help of Derek who was beside her and helped her through every step. Derek was a strict teacher but he really cared about Kisima and saw to it that she recovered completely. He was toootally swoon-worthy and damn gorgeous. His methods of training were different but pretty effective. I loved the banters between them. They had lots of funny and humorous moments and it was crystal clear that they felt so comfortable around each other. Their romance was steamy and hot and I definitely enjoyed it. Their connection formed easily and they understood each other so much. I liked the other side characters as well, except one, I hated him sooo much.
Writing style-
The writing was simple and smooth. It was pretty easy to get into the flow of the book and I breezed through it. The pace was neither too fast nor too slow, it was even throughout the book. This book was pretty addicting and I had a hard time to stop reading it. I loved the suspense and the romance and I definitely loved how everything was executed.
Overall-
Race for Love is a book that I loved very much. The plot had romance and suspense and it was addicting from the very beginning. The characters were diverse and really good, I fell in love with them and could easily connect with them. The romance was sizzling hot, I enjoyed it very much. The writing style was smooth and easy to read, I breezed through the book very easily and the pace was even throughout the book. As I said earlier, I don't usually go for sports romances but this book was pretty great and throughly entertaining. I'm definitely going to check out other books by this author.
Recommend it?
Definitely yes if you like sports romances, intriguing plot and awsome characters.
A brush with death was all it took for Kisima Jennings to realize who mattered to her and who her family was. She was quite afraid to get attached with anyone, making her recovery a little more painful than it should be.
Derek Donovan, therapist to athletes, was supposed to land on his dream job in a basketball team. Before it comes to fruition, he broke up with his roadie girlfriend, after he caught her cheating on him. Soon he found his dreams crushed when he realized he’d been fired, because “coincidentally” the father of the girl he dumped happened to be the owner of the basketball team he was supposed to be joining. Tough luck, eh!
When Derek learned about Jennings involved in a car crash and needed health rehabilitation, he was called to help her out. Surprise, surprise! He didn’t know Jennings was a woman, and he found himself attracted to her and soon got entangled in a web of family drama, broken trust and flailing relationship.
I was kind of giddy while reading this book. I don’t know, maybe there’s something about female race car drivers that please me. It’s their speed, their guts, their ferocity and their agility that impress me a lot. So when this book came to my lap, I grabbed the opportunity and was more than pleased to meet Kisima Jennings.
Call me a feminist, but it really gives me pure pleasure to see female characters who could take on their male counterparts; who could prove that they can do better than the men in the field. Race for Love gave me that unadulterated thrill and excitement and sent shivers down my spine. Kiss Jennings was a femme fatale.
Awesome read. Great characters and chemistry. Lots of angst lots of flirting, sexy hot and mysterious.
Derek an atheletic trainer, was wrongfully fired from his job because he refused to be in a relationship with his boss.
Karisima a formula One racecar driver who was recovering from an injury she'd suffered on the tracks, made it difficult for anyone who tried to aid her in her recovery. In comes Derek with his his charming but no nonsense attitude.
Derek went in thinking it was all business. Do his job, get out and back to his rightful position working with guys on the basketball team, but on his first encounter with Karisima he knew he was in trouble because he was attracted to her.
Karisima was sabotaging her recovery because of fear and guilt, while Derek was trying to get reinstated to his old job. This made for an interesting read. They battled fear and quilt while maintaining an intimate relationship, yet staying ambitious and focused on their respective careers. Being a race car driver is a male dominated sport, and there were someone trying to keep Karisima off the tracks by any means necessary, even if it means hurting her. I got upset with Derek a few times but still loved him. I really liked this book. It was hot and steamy and filled with suspense. Also very realistic and believable. Great job Ms Malone.
I was given an ARC for an honest review. I was not paid for my review. This is book 3 in the Donovan Series.
This is Derek and Kisima’s story. Kisima is a racing driver and Derek is the trainer who is helping her to get back to full fitness after she was in a serious car crash.
The sparks start flying from their first meeting. Through helping Kisima back to health they start to fall in love but they both have their own dream goals that they want to achieve in their lives and try desperately not to allow the love growing between them, to infer with their life goals.
I loved the dialogue between the couple and the author kept much of the story focussed on the couple and their developing relationship, which I really enjoyed. The story was entertaining and romantic.
I would highly recommend this book and this series as a great read!
I absolutely loved this book! It was the best one in the series so far. Their story was so sweet and sexy. The twists kept me glued to this book. An absolute page turner.
Love Derek Donovan he is smart, strong and puts up with nothing from Kisima. Derek is really good at his job and Nana Malone made me believe that all these characters are real. That is credit to Nana Malone and her writing. Nana Malone grabbed me from the start and kept me till the end. In my opinion this is more than a sports romance. Both characters have issues of loved ones leaving. I believe Nana Malone did a good job of navigating both characters issues of loved ones leaving. In my opinion Nana Malone did a great job of making it believable.
I was not a huge fan of books dealing with members of families. That is until Nana Malone. Oh my God! Kisima and Derek are so explosive together. They brought the best in each other. Thank goodness for making Kiss a race care driver. I I've how the women are strong and doesn't take away from their vulnerabilities. Do not mess with the Donovan's. Also, there's always a best friend in each book that's ride or die (thanks for that).
This story had my heart racing all the way through. With the combination of Derek's drama and Kisimas drama, I honestly didn't know what was going in. But I loved everything about the journey these two took in this story. Great book. Can't wait to read the next in the series.
I am a Nana Malone fan! I have almost all of her books and I am waiting for the rest of the books in the Donovan collection. I can't wait for the next family member book.
As a car racing (Nascar) fan, I was immediately drawn to the description of Race For Love by author Nana Malone. What's not to like when you get drawn into a racy romance between a sassy female race car driver and a sexy athletic trainer?
Author Nana Malone weaves an exciting romantic tale that easily draws the reader into female race car driver Kisima Jennings and athletic trainer Derek Donovan's unexpected love story. This sassy romance story of finding unexpected love between two people with troubled pasts and a lot of emotional baggage is so captivating that it will get your heart racing, and take you on one hell of thrill ride.
Kisima and Derek's story is filled with enough drama, passion, secrets, lies, intrigue, suspense, and love, that you won't be able to put the book down. As the chemistry between Kisima and Derek builds, the intensity level sure does rise, and you can't help but cheer them on to the checkered flag!
I loved the mixture of steamy romance and suspense that is interwoven throughout the storyline, it easily keeps the reader engaged, while the non-stop action makes you want to find out what would happen next. I loved the snarky, sarcastic banter between Kisima and Derek, it provides a lot of laugh out loud fun moments. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that I loved how the author implements a role reversal where the race car driver is a female and the athletic trainer is a male, it gets two thumbs up!
Race For Love is a thoroughly enjoyable romance story that is sure to kick your pulse rate up a notch!
Disclaimer: I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for my honest review and participation in a virtual book tour event hosted by Reading Addiction Virtual Book Tours.

Their first meeting and the sparks are already flying with the bantering between the two. Derek does his thing and gets her out of the wheel chair and back in form to race again. Throw in some twist and turns along the way with Kisima jealous ex-boyfriend, her other best boy friend she treats like a brother who wants to be more and a secret daddy and you have an awesome romance with a little bit of mystery.
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
I really love this book and series so far. This story is about Derek Donovan and Kisima "Kiss" Jennings. The two. meet when Derek comes in to help Kiss after her accident, It was love at first sight but both had been hurt by previous relationships and vowed never to that again. But as time went on they started to get closer and feeling were hard to deny. The author has a way of pulling you into the luves of each characters story. It has some mystery and suspense surrounding the accident. Lots of hot and steamy sex scenes and in the end some sweet revenge. I also love the Donavan family. I loved how they have each others back. I liked the twist at the end. Can't wait to read Dylan s story.
I received an ARC for an honest review. I think out of all of the Donovan books this one is my favorite (which is saying a lot because I have loved them all)!
I loved the main characters. Kiss, being a race car driver, has to have an edge to survive in a man dominated sport and it makes her so spunky I just fell in love! D3 is the perfect compliment to her and there chemistry is sizzling, even when trying to avoid it! This book had so much to offer... humor, love, steamy romance, whacky families, broken pasts, crushed dreams, mystery and of course SASS and a few appearances by some of the other Donovan's that I love so much! Even the supporting characters were great (some in a sly way). Once I started I couldn't put it down!!!
Great Book! This is a great book; this is the third book in The Donovans series by Nana Malone. Kisima Jennings is a racecar driver and her career is all she needs. When she is in a near fatal crash it can jeopardize her future as a driver. Derek Donovan is an athletic trainer, when he is blackballed in the NBA by his ex he takes a job as Kisima’s trainer. The more they spend together they can’t fight the steamy attraction. If you are looking for a great book that will leave you reading way past your bedtime, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Kisima is a strong woman living in a man's world as a racecar driver. After crashing her race car she begins to doubt herself and TJ who has raised her since the death of her parents hires a therapist.
In comes Derek, a "sadist" physical therapist. Derek has his own career issues, but he is a fighter and instead of them having a pity party they take a risk and decide to enjoy life and each other, as time permits....but will their careers make room for a serious relationship??
I loved this story, it was just a great story. There are several plots & some very shocking secrets which all came together to make the story more real-like.
This book to me was just ok. It took me a long time to read and it was because I could not connect to it. The characters had good chemistry and in the end I am glad their love was strong. There were twist and turns, but it was not till the last 150 pages that I was enjoying it.
Derek was probably the best part of the book and with his turn of bad luck that lead him to her. I thought the race car twist was great since there are not many books out there.
I loved this book. I was given an ARC and it kept me going. Didn't want to stop at any point while reading it. Derek Donovan, a former Basketball player out due to injuries, turned Trainer/PT meets up with Kisima Jennings, race car driver who ended up in a bad crash. The sparks fly pretty much instantly and it's great to watch how this story develops. Would recommend it highly.
Ooohwee! The latest story in the Donovans series is very good, full of spicy romance and a good whodunit. Spicy chemistry from racecar driver Kisima and athletic trainer Derek Donovan keep this story hot. Kisima fought to get herself back to who she was with Derek's help. If you like a good romance with a hint of mystery thrown in check this one out!
I loved this story. The only flaw I personally find is that if you really wanted it to be believable then the ages of the characters should have been higher. Otherwise this book really is a true fairytale
Kiss and Derek was two of a kind and both ran from love. I'm glad they gave into each other and found how love can do your body and heart some good. I'm glad they found home with each other.
