Rate this book
Lord Uthe, a member of the Vampire Council, was a Templar Knight centuries ago. Even up to the present day, he has attempted to honor the spirit of the Rule, despite the volatile and highly sexual nature of the vampire world. Yet now he’s caught the attention of the Fae Lord Keldwyn, liaison between the Council and Fae Court. Keldwyn challenges Uthe’s emotional isolation and dominant nature. When a quest from Uthe’s past requires Keldwyn’s help to protect both their worlds, Uthe will have to decide whether the Fae male is a gift from God to be cherished and trusted, or a curse that will make Uthe fail the Order he promised to serve all his life.

Due to personal reasons, I no longer review books that get less than three stars from me. In order that I can remember why a book didn't work out for me, I've decided to file them accordingly. Meaning, I had to extend my shelves substantially.

Quotes I liked:

 photo oie_LpTbdn8TBZoQ_zps9w0sdtrk.gif

Keldwyn’s eyes glowed in the dark. “I seek a true kiss from your mouth, Lord Uthe. The kiss you actually want to give me, not the one you permitted yourself to offer. I want inside that open door.”

“I don't think you need a servant, my lord,” she said at last, slowly. “I think you need someone... I think you need love. I mean, someone in love with you, who you can be in love with as well. Someone...equal to you."

“I am waiting, Lord Uthe. Unless you have decided your quest is not as important as your virtue.”
“Perhaps your revulsion for sharing your blood is only matched by my distaste for sharing your bed.”
“If that was the case, you would not be aroused now.”

Loved the fantastical story, and I truly love the series. So long, and I still love it as much as I loved it at start. I can never form a good enough combination of words to give this series justice, but I don’t mind wishing for Mariela’s story in the future. She deserves an HEA of her own! ;)

Fangirl Review!

 photo tumblr_mcxm3mhBBC1rokywzo1_500_zpsfcxi13il.gif

Joey is a favorite of mine but when I realized this was her first M/M book in 3.67 KAGRILLION years (or since 2007 but who's counting?) dog's covered their ears. And in my favorite series too!!!!

I don't even know where to start the fangirling so I guess I'll start with the series. This is book 13 of the Vampire Queen series BUT this can be read as a standalone. True, there are nuances to be had from having some familiarity with the series, but Joey does an excellent job of explaining the high points which, honestly, for someone like myself who's read virtually the entire series became a bit tedious. Also, this book is a beast! Amazon puts it at 453 pgs. It has over 7K locations! I'm thinking those are Word doc pages not Kindle pages.

If you're not familiar with Joey's writing, she has an affinity for the English language and uses it to the best of her abilities to draw the reader into her world's.

And she LOVES angst and feels.

Lord Uthe has been an intriguing and enigmatic character since he was introduced. He's a Templar Knight who sits on the Vampire Council with Lyssa, the vampire Queen. They are both allies and friends. He and the Fae Lord Keldwyn, liaison between the Vampire Council and the Fae courts, have been growing closer. They are well matched in that they are both accustomed to navigating the intricacies of their worlds with their delicate egos and political machinations and are skilled in the art of detachment or at least masking their detachment.

When Uthe's final Templar mission puts him in need of getting into the Fae world Keldwyn inserts himself as his partner. With stipulations. Erotic ones. Erotic ones that shocked me. Frankly, this turn of events was highly unexpected. And welcome. Very welcome. I couldn't have been happier if a basket of puppies landed on my doorstep!

 photo photo-45_zps5kb1mstr.jpg

Trust

Trust is the issue. The Fae talk in riddles and usually have an ulterior motive, so can Keldwyn prove himself trustworthy and can Uthe accept his words at face value is the primary obstacle between these friends becoming lovers. The eroticism of their D/s relationship is satisfying and disappointing. I know what Joey is capable of brining to the BDSM table and I found myself longing for more kink and pain. It's hinted at but never really comes to fruition.

Keldwyn realized the idea of possessing him, calling him his own, almost superseded the urgency of anything else, at least in this moment.

The story itself, though, was wonderful and not just their relationship development. The adventure in the Fae world was filled with some of my favorite mythical creatures and battles that had my heart pumping with adrenaline. Pacing is a bit of an issue and I do think this could've been trimmed and tightened up. But you throw in some of my favorite characters from the series and I'm liable to forget any and all niggles.

It should be noted both men are bisexual with a preference for men. There are a couple of m/f scenes that are mostly fade to black and not graphic.

It goes without saying (or at least it should) that I highly recommend this series and this author.

I paid for it! With my own money and everything!

Night’s Templar is book thirteen in the inestimable “Vampire Queen series” by the incomparable Joey W. Hill. Ms. Hill’s writing always consumes the reader with rich characters, deep emotion and enthralling settings, but that she can sustain this particular series through so many books without compromising any of these elements is a testament to her skills, to these characters and to the world they inhabit.

What makes this book stand out, for this reader at least, are two elements in particular. While we have been given more than a glimpse into the Fae world in a previous instalment (Bound by the Vampire Queen), this is more an exploration of the quest by Vampire Lord Uthe and Fae Lord Keldwyn, as well as their evolving relationship. Both of these elements combine to further the interaction and cooperation between the two worlds. In so doing, the series is opened up to so many new elements and possibilities that it makes a series fan positively giddy with anticipation.

Second, and it is this I appreciate beyond measure, is the almost magical blending of history and legend, with the most imaginary of paranormal worlds. Uthe’s role as a Templar Knight and the quest with which he has been entrusted for nearly 900 years was slowly revealed in an engrossing weave into the fabric of time such that, for the duration of the story, it fit. Perfectly. Vividly. And oh so imaginatively. It was stunning how the small pieces of legend were enhanced when placed in this fantastical world, bringing them to almost tangible life.

Longstanding VQ fans will be able to get their ‘squee’-on with a liberal dose of familiar characters, deeper exposure to some newer favourites, and months of speculation as to who’s story is next. And the cache of possible characters just expanded exponentially. New readers will be clamouring for the backlist because no one can touch that place inside a book-lover that transforms escape into a momentary reality, quite the way Ms. Hill can.

Night’s Templar is quintessentially Vampire Queen, but the brilliant blend of the real, the legendary and the imagined takes this story to a new plane. Kudos for an exceptional, next-level read.

Review: Night’s Templar by Joey W Hill
(Book #13, Vampire Queen Series)

One of the problems that occur in long running book series are that the storylines, characters and plots can start to become too familiar. Just insert character A into scene B and tie it all up with C’s ending. Not necessarily a bad thing if the writing is good, but sticking to what’s worked in the past can ultimately lead to a slow death for the series as a whole.
This is most definitely NOT the case with Joey W Hill’s latest book in her Vampire Queen series. Book 13 “Night’s Templar” is a revelation. Ms. Hill has taken the world she’s so beautifully created in Books 1-12 and expanded and enriched it tenfold. Weaving in Historical fact, legend and her own myths regarding the Knight Templars elevates this story to what is best in all great fiction. Immaculate storytelling.
Lord Uthe (high- ranking member of the Vampire Council) and Lord Keldwyn (Fae liaison between the Vampire and Fae worlds) have been at the top of fan lists for a story of their own since first meeting the characters in earlier books. That there is an attraction between them has been evident from the beginning. How two sexual Dominants come together in a way that is true to both their natures is the task at hand. The story that unfolds in Night’s Templar brings a depth and gravitas not only to these two characters but to the entire Vampire series as a whole.
As a former Templar Knight, Vampire Lord Uthe is a man who has dedicated his life to serving the needs of the Vampire race while still living as close to the Rule that dictated the day to day life of a Templar Knight. He accomplishes this without losing what is true to his Vampire nature. Honorable, Humble and Courageous, Uthe is a man determined to do what is asked of him, no matter the cost. A 900 year old promise and a secret that could end his life set him on a quest in the truest sense of the word.
High Fae Lord Keldwyn is the best ambassador for his people as liaison to the Vampire Council. Breathtakingly beautiful, quick-witted and a Master at negotiation, Keldwyn is a force of Nature. He is a larger than life personality, yet you never know where you stand with the man. What isn’t immediately evident is the fact that Kel is just as Honorable and Courageous as Uthe. (And no, I didn’t say Humble, but I will add self-assured)
Working together on the accord between their worlds, Uthe and Keldwyn find pleasure in debates, planning sessions and games of chess. The attraction between them unsettles Uthe, and intrigues Kel. Although sexually Dominant by nature, Uthe has limited his sexual interactions with his 3rd marked servant to the physical aspects only. To allow himself to engage on an emotional level that so many of his fellow Vampires have with their servants would go against his desire to live as closely to the tenets of his Templar beliefs as possible. That Keldwyn stirs such intense need in him, both sexually and emotionally, makes his task that much more difficult to accomplish… Especially when Kel insists on going with him.
As their journey together to fulfill Uthe’s promise takes them deeper into the Fae world, we are witness to their struggles to find meaning and connection in the feelings and desires they can no longer deny. Their sexual encounters peel back the layers on what lies deep within their hearts. Love, belonging, service and ownership are poignantly revealed to show how Dominance and submission can set our souls free and connect two hearts for eternity.
Along the way we meet up with favorite characters from other books in the series, as well as several new characters that open the world(s) of the Vampire Queen even more. No longer limited to Vampire, Fae and human, the number of Supernatural beings that are expanding this world just add an additional layer to a richly detailed place we’ve come to love. Take my advice, if you haven’t read one of Joey W Hill’s books before, run as fast as you can and grab yourself a copy of Night’s Templar. You won’t be disappointed.

I will start off with three facts. Fact one: When Keldwyn was introduced in the second book The Mark of The Vampire Queen (A Vampire Queen Novel), I was not thrilled. I saw him as a user, one that would come back on Lady Lyssa for something, all because he had saved her life. For the last eleven books in this series, I have been waiting for that other shoe to hit the floor. I couldn't and didn't want to see my lady Lyssa be used in anyway. So not a fan. Fact two: The first time I read about Uthe, I was in love with him. The way he carried himself, the way he spoke to everyone, and the love he showed Evan his vampire child. Everything about Uthe showed nothing but love. Fact three: There's less then a handful of female writers that write M/M that I will read, because I feel they loss the passion in men, and only focus on the alpha part. Joey is one of those female authors that DOESN'T loss the passion in men.

So, when Joey started talking about writing Night's Templar, and it would be about Keldwyn and Uthe, I was a little bit...Ugh! Again my ugh was my feelings towards Keldwyn. Before reading Night's Templar, I wanted better and more for Uthe, because he should have the best. But as the story received more of Uthe, I fall more and more in love with him. And as my read went along, I started softening for Keldwyn, and why he was all over Lady Lyssa like white on rice. My heart grew five times for Keldwyn, and I'm now in love with him too. Keldwyn is a honorable Fae, with a heart of gold.

Night's Templar is a five star read, it has all the passion, and sex in it as Joey writes in everyone of her books. This next story into the world of vampires and fae leave you with wanting more. The lives of both vampire Uthe and fae Keldwyn is brilliantly written, and overwhelming believable to the point that you are left with believing that vampires and fae are not just fairy tales to read, but that you're riding along with Uthe and Keldwyn's journey. The love that grows with, in, and between Keldwyn and Uthe is heartwarming and tears of joy. The heartwarming that both men are meant to be, that no other would be better to suit them. The XIII book in this series is a must read.

Note to my friend Joey: Oh you wonderful, brilliant, and gifted writer you. You give me, my Lady Lyssa in all of her glory. Thanks!

Epic fantasy from a master! The nature of submission is a theme that runs through each of Joey W. Hill’s books. In Night's Templar Lord Uthe has submitted to Gods will and the Rule of the Templar Knights. Becoming a Templar Knight saved his sanity and gave him a way to serve while still being a dominant male vampire. While a Knight Uthe was given a duty/quest that he as a vampire was uniquely fitted for. It has been centuries and his mind is failing but it is now time to finish his quest. To aid him in his quest is the most arrogant, sexy and powerful male he can remember meeting, Fae Lord Keldwyn. Kel trips all his buttons making Uthe’s beleaguered mind wonder all the more about the nature of dark and light. Can he trust Kel? Can he trust himself?
Night's Templar is a wonderful trip into the world of Lord Uthe. Lord Uthe has been an important secondary character in this series. He has been one of the more reasonable voices on the Vampire Council. A steady companion and advisor to the Queen he stood for Daegan Rei and sired Evan and now we get to peek further into the mind and man behind the deeds. We also get to meet the Fae Lord Keldwyn. Kel is a total dominant and he wants Uthe. When Uthe’s quest requires him to enter the Fae lands Kel uses it to force Uthe to submit to both their desires and labels it payment so Uthe can lie to himself. When feelings go beyond payment and the going gets tough can Uthe truly submit to both Gods and Kel’s will? If m/m or playing with the Knights Templar disturbs you don’t read this book. If you want to read a finely crafted multi layered tale that will leave you wanting to immediately return to this fantastic world this is for you. This book can be read standalone but you will get more out of it if you’ve read the series. This is a book I will reread again and again.

It really surprised me how this book turned out. The characters the lore the history, it all came together so nicely. I think for me the biggest surprise was Uthe and his complex personality and what he had to do. Same goes for all the characters in the book. They had a goal whether they knew it or not and it was in the end that that accomplished it. This book kept me on the edge and I had no clue how it would turn out, so it was a huge surprise for me.

I love Joey W. Hill's writing. Her stories deal with so many topics relevant to today's social issues. The main issue in this story was the fact that Lord Uthe, advisor to the vampire council, has started suffering from ennui. Ennui is the vampire equivalent of Alzheimer's Disease. He faces a daunting quest that must be completed before the effects of ennui ravage his mind. Lord Keldwyn, Fae liason and advisor to the vampire council is attracted to Lord Uthe. He gets assigned to help Lord Uthe in his final quest as a Knights Templar. Lord Uthe makes his rounds to those closest to him to say his farewells.
"It was rare a man had the opportunity to say farewell to all that was important to him before Death claimed him. He could say what he needed to say now, before he was beyond the ability to say anything."
(I have found that cancer also provides this opportunity. It is the only thing that one can say is good about it.)
This is an epic journey where Lord Uthe faces the ultimate evil and must destroy it or die trying. Lord Uthe knew many people in his long life. We learn that he is older than Lady Lyssa, the Vampire Queen. This is something that had only been alluded to in previous stories.
A quite interesting character named Cai is introduced in the story and I anticipate a book centered around him. He is a loner that Lords Uthe and Keldwyn discover in the Sahara Desert.
There are quite a few bits of wisdom quoted in the story from wise women Uthe knew from his past, wisdom still relevant in modern times. Ms. Hill's stories are always full of universal truths. In the world of the Fae we are witness to a royal discussion of man's slow destruction of our planet through pollution.
As a Wiccan I enjoy that Lord Uthe's Christianity isn't shoved down the reader's throat but that a universal spirituality is embraced. Divinity thrums throughout this story.
Using only words, Ms. Hill paints a tapestry of incredible detail and color worthy of a Fae Queen.
This story had fairies, and dragons, gnomes and all manner of fae folk, a sea monster and a unicorn.
I loved this book. Actually I love all of Joey's books but this one was the sweetest story ever. Of all of the vampires Lord Uthe is the least dominant of all. The relationship that develops between him and Lord Keldwyn shows how love can break the barriers between racial, political, and international boundaries. So much of the text in this story is quotable and Lord Keldwyn quotes Marguerite Porete himself.
'I am God, says Love, for Love is God and God is Love, and this Soul is God by the condition of Love. I am God by divine nature and this Soul is God by the condition of Love. Thus this precious beloved of mine is taught and guided by me, without herself, for she is transformed into me, and such a perfect one, says Love, takes my nourishment.'

Kudos to Joey's hubby for the cover art on this book. It is amazing.
When you get to the end of the story do read the ABOUT THE AUTHOR section or read it here. http://www.storywitch.com/more-author...

This is my favorite quote from the story because I can really relate to it in this stage of my life.
"There are more stories to be read than days in an immortal lifespan." - Lord Keldwyn

Something that readers of Karen Moning's Fever series might find amusing is that the spear of Longinus is in this story and no where near Dublin at all. LOL

Ok....it's one of those books that i felt sorry when i finished it....because it was sooooo gooooood!!!! I love JWH's stories. She is one writer who has never disappointed me in terms of story telling, style and overall feel of the book. And she writes M/M romance beautifully.

This book's pairing is Lord Uthe (the quiet and wise member of the Vampire Council) and Lord Keldwyn (the Fae Lord that played quite a significant role in Bound by The Vampire Mistress - he seemed like a rather shady character back then but the Faes are portrayed as a very cunning and sly type). Lord Uthe was, is a vampire and a Templar Knight (a bit of an ironic situation), has been living for almost a thousand years and is now suffering the onset of vampire Ennui (some kind of vampire Alzheimer+Dementia situation). He has a final task/quest that he has to complete and he is worried that his condition would hinder him from doing so. Lord Keldwyn is the official liaison between both the vampire and fae world. In order for Uthe to complete his final knightly quest, he would need the assistance of the Faes so Lord Keldwyn conveniently volunteered himself as Lord Uthe's companion. The two have been very friendly ever since the relationship between both the human/vampire world and the fae world has been restored. At the same time they are also hiding their very strong attraction to each other. (Psst! I'm a very visual person, so i was imagining Lee Pace/Thranduil as Lord Keldwyn and Michael Fassbender as Lord Uthe!)

So here you get one super serious vampire who's pious and noble trying very hard to resist the temptation (and not so subtle seduction) of one very beautiful/ handsome and determined high Fae. But the awesome thing about the story is not in the blatant show of their man-love but the slow and steady development of their relationship - from being mere allies, to best friends (although Uthe still maintains his reservations towards Keldwyn's motives, the latter being a sly Fae and all) to lovers and of course since this is after all a Vampire Queen series, the complicated D/s relationship between the two. Both are Dominants by nature so you'd be guessing who would be the one to submit and how the dynamics be like. The quest itself is interesting and it stays in the front line of the story complementing the romantic parts of it.

To note, there are many religious references throughout the story - pre-Christianity, Christianity and Islam. The Saracens play the obvious enemies here with the mention of Crusaders serving the will of corrupt leaders not God and the Templars described as the purists in The Cause. So if you are sensitive towards how religion and the people are interpreted or portrayed in stories, you may feel a bit discomfited. But if you are going to be all religiously-correct, why are you reading a M/M D/s PNR in the first place? Heh heh!

Definitely a must-read of you are a VQ series fan!

Always love reading Ms Hill's Vampire series, and this was no exception.

Lord Uthe has always been a supporting character in the Vampire Council; quietly arbitrating and giving advice to Lyssa, and we've never really seen him in action. Lord Keldwyn, the Fae Lord Advisor to the Council, has made his presence known every time he's appeared in previous novels. So to combine the two of them here (in a rare Male/Male relationship) is rather wonderful.

We get to know Uthe's history with the Templars, and his reasons for his obedience to his God. Keldwyn is an enigma; stiff and formal, and not giving too much away. But together, they react, and gel, and interact, and bring out the best in each other. Their relationship is built upon step by step, and though both are Dominant, it is easy to see why one eventually surrenders to the other.

One's credulity is sorely taxed 2/3rds the way through the book, purely b/c there is a little bit too much magic happening; but if one can suspend belief, then the actions work.

My not giving this 5 stars was because the religious aspect of Uthe's raison d'etre was slightly shoved down my throat. I understand the strict regimen Knights of the Order had to follow (I am well versed in the non-fiction history of the Templars) but Uthe's continuing devotions to his Order/God seem a bit out of place and excessive. So, beware, there is quite a bit of pontificating going on.

But the BDSM scenes between Kel and Uthe are **wipes sweaty forehead**, **waves hand in front of hot face**, and **phew - that's hot** type of HOT !!

Well, I have to give this book 5 stars bc I wished for this author to PLEASE have a book or 2 or more that does NOT have public sex or sex with other ppl in the name of dom-sub or anything else, and this book delivered.

Yes, there was that other ppl sex in the beginning before the relationship betw the MCs progressed and it was not sexual sex, if you know what I mean, it was more goodbye comfort sex, so I excused it.

Other reasons I give this book 5 stars:

The writing is grade A. The lyricism is always there, but here there's the historical formal speech component.

The world building with the Templars and Fae world - also grade A. VERY different from this author's other works. Brings me to mind again of author Aja James, but also very different.

The adventure component, a bit like epic fantasy. There's a QUEST! There's conflict. There's politics. There's deep intellectual discussions. There's romance.

The romance is truly romance vs. one erotic scene after another. The sex in this book is actually quite sparse and that suits the MCs as well. Uthe was a Templar. He's basically a monk (with notable exceptions). He's conservative and has very deep faith. A soldier of God, for God's sake. So all of the above is consistent with Uthe, and the fact that Kel is monogomous, he's fae. They are both passionate, sexual males, but their relationship doesn't call for the shennanigans I've been reading through Jacob+Lyssa and the other vampire novels.

It was a long book, almost 500 pages. But I read most of the words, which is a testament to when I like a book.

Recommend.

(Just don't expect other books by this author to be like this one.)

I thoroughly enjoy Joey’s books, but this one has been my least favorite. I was dreading the story of Lord Uthe and I am not exactly sure why as I typically enjoy M/M storylines. But this one felt a little over the top on being preachy and I never could get into the bond of Lord Uthe and Lord Kelwayn.

This was not at all what I was expecting. I didn't pay attention to the blurb because it is Ms. Hill writing. Why would I care what the book is about? She is a fantastic writer and she holds me under her spell.

I really liked Uthe and Keldwyn. The dynamic these two males have with each other is very brotherly in a way. I know they become lovers and there is some kinky dominance in it, but it wasn't really BDSM kinky enough for me. Their chemistry as lovers seemed to be missing for me.

What I really liked about this story was the character development. Uthe's history is mind blowing. The amount of research required to make this story so good had to have been lengthy. I like reading about books with the Templar Knights. This PNR almost felt a bit dry with a bit too much history. Still, it is interesting. The way Uthe is tied to Keldwyn is what slays me. Keldwyn has good read to not want to have anything to do with Uthe. Keldwyn's history is completely heart breaking for me. I do not know how Keldwyn stands the pain. He is long lived and the amount of loss he has suffered would crush me. Between his children and the one he loved, how is he not more bitter and cruel? I'm truly amazed. The only thing I wished for more in this story was deviant sexual fun. I would have enjoyed more D/s with Uthe to Keldwyn. This little more kink would have made this book more enjoyable for me.

I think this may be my favorite of the Vampire Queen series, and that's saying A LOT since this series is arguably my favorite series of all time! I probably have said this before, possibly about other books in the series, but I can't help it that Ms. Hill keeps topping herself (no pun intended). Although she has written M/M sex in many of her other books, notably the ones about Daegan, Anwyn, and Gideon, this is the first time an exclusively male relationship is the basis of the book. I love this book for so many reasons. The religious implications, the philosophizing, the quest, the topic of change in general are but a few. I felt every scene, every nuance of feeling, every fear and horror, every colorful description of the Fae world, somehow was infused into my very soul. This is a magnificent book, in its scope and breadth. I wish there were more than 5 stars to give as I would give more gladly!

Whew this was good but long and there was a lot going on... I've read one other in the Vampire Queen series of Joey Hill (#9) and it was a MMF that was good and started my interest in the MM genre! While this one can be read as a standalone; I was at a disadvantage and had to work to catch up since there are many continuing characters from the previous novels. It would have been easier to understand if I had read at least some of the previous stories but that would have taken forever and this story is the only MM story within this series of 13 books!

That being said- I LOVE Uthe (our Vampire) and Fae Lord Keldwyn. And I love them together. So much to their back stories that kept me so engaged. Mostly told from Uthe's POV but we do get Kel's POV every so often. I enjoyed it and was very entertained when I wasn't confused with what was going on :) If you like Joey Hill's writing and the Vampire Queen series, then you'll probably enjoy this story!

Joey W. Hill -

While this is very much one of the books in the fantastic VQ series it is different to the others. The dialogue and soul searching is there as usual but there is also quite a lot of history and references to The Templars, I really liked this and loved how Kel and Uthe's story unfolded.

4.5 Heart Review by Vicki

Wow. I am so happy Joey W. Hill wrote this book! She’s not new to m/m relationships, one of her Nature of Desire books has a gay couple, and there has been gay/bi relationships and sex in this Vampire Queen series, but she really needed to write a true romance between two men in this world. Now these two both have had relationships and/or sex with females, but I think at heart, both find more pleasure and love with their own sex. This book made me very happy.

So. This book is part of a massive series, starting with The Vampire Queen’s Servant, way back in 2007. I read it in 2009, starting it on November 8th, actually! Yes, I did look it up on my Amazon account… This was just after I had started reading m/m and discovered BDSM. I was coming out of a deep paranormal romance phase, so this series was just what I needed, vampires, and hard-core BDSM. I was a bit shocked, honestly, these vampires are pretty naughty. But I loved it. Lots of kinky sex, but great plots. I’ve followed the series ever since, although I admit to not reading the last couple of books. A few months ago Joey posted the info for Night’s Templar and I got a lady boner.

There is way too much happening in this series, and in this book to really give you much idea about the plot. Basically the series has developed in to this big epic thing, internal politics, fighting amongst the vampires, the introduction of Fae characters, but at heart each book is a romance, following couples or threesomes as they work through the chaotic lives they lead, and fall in love. And have kinky sex, with lots of bondage and pain. This book is a bit different. Most, if not all of the previous books have been about the love between vampires and their human servants. Sometimes multiple vampires, sometimes the humans become vampires, but there has been a human in all of the relationships, I’m pretty sure anyway. Now we have Uthe, a Templar Knight, and born vampire, falling in love with Keldwyn, a Fae Lord. But they have some serious work to do, to get their happy ending.

Uthe is a Templar Knight, sworn to a task, fifteen hundred years ago. The time has now come for him to complete his task. He’s kept himself to a very firm set of rules, as he learned to do as a knight, and he’s never let anyone very far in to his heart. Maybe a human servant now and then has gotten close, especially the one he has as the story starts, and he does have sex with her as his nature demands, but it is pretty…. clinical maybe is the word. He does what he needs to do, but isn’t emotionally satisfied. So yes, there are some girl bits in this book but briefly. He has been a member of the Vampire Counsel, and through this group meets Keldwyn, the Fae representative to the vampire queen. (big story there….) Keldwyn has been fascinated with Uthe and his isolated strength for some time, but Uthe is pretty firm in his desire to remain nothing more than friends. As the signs become clear to Uthe that his task is coming due, and he is discovering some health issues, he is forced to accept help from Keldwyn.

Off they go on a wonderful epic quest. Fighting, action, swords, switching between the human realm and the Fae realm, some good fucking, magic, drama, angst and chaos. This book contains it all. Yes, I’m being vague, but this is seriously a complex plot. As this whole big thing is happening, Uthe is becoming more involved, more drawn to Keldwyn. We get flashbacks to Uthe’s life, we see why he has issues. We hear Keldwyn tell stories of his life and loves, and we see why HE has issues. But they work through it all.

What I liked about this was the big epic battle comes at maybe 80%, and we still get more story. So often the big thing happens and BAM! The book ends. Joey gave us a bunch more story! Time to wrap it all up, and time for one last really hot scene between Uthe and Keldwyn. I think my only complaint was the length of the book. At 453 pages it was a little long for me. There were a few moments when it dragged a bit, maybe a scene or two that I don’t think moved the plot along and could have been cut out. But I have gotten used to reading 250 page books, so that could just be me.

Uthe and Keldwyn are amazing together. Uthe is just almost falling apart, and Keldwyn will not let him. The longer they are together the more they bond, and the firmer Keldwyn gets with Uthe, telling him just how this will be. There was a moment of fear for me, after the big thing happens, but I trusted it would work out. Then I LOVED the ending. Sweet is the word I want to use, but I’m not sure that works when it’s about what happens between a vampire and a Fae Lord. Oh, I also loved that they called each other “my lord” through the whole book! So cute.

Anyway, long review to tell you this book is amazing. It’s a great addition to this series, totally got me back in to it after I had been slacking on the last few books. It is obviously part of a big series, but I think you could read this book on its own. The story of Uthe and Keldwyn’s quest is contained within the book, and doesn’t relate to things that have happened in other books in the series. There are lots of characters from the other books popping up here and there, but I do think you’d be ok not knowing their whole story. If you have read any or all of the other books, you have soooooo got to read this one. If you haven’t, I’d give this one a try. It’s really m/m, with a tiny bit of m/f sex at the very beginning. I can say that the other books are mostly m/f, with the occasional threesome thrown in for fun. But if you like paranormal romance with some serious BDSM, this is the series for you.

Loved it!

I read this book twice. First time years ago, didn't love it. Second time, it was great. If you looking for a bunch of smut and escapism, this book not for you. It has some smut/BDSM though. This is different from the other books in the series.I didn't like Lord uthe in the other books but this one has alot of backstory/lore and explains why he is the way he is . Uthe with the fae lord seems like an odd pairing but eventually they works out their differences and their love for each other is very beautiful.

This story is more history than romance. There is a good deal about the Templars. The history of the group and the area that they were were so much a part of. It is also paranormal because there is a demon or devil as well as all the Fae. It is sad and joyous as well as tense and heartbreaking.

We get an update on Evan, Niall and Alanna. It was nice to see that they are doing well and are very happy. It was also nice to see Dagean, Gideon and Jacob.

You will visit the Fae court and hopefully the Fae Queen will finally be more open to the Fae visiting the human world.

There were patches about the Templar Knights I wanted to skip over to get back to the action but I made myself read it.
Other than that I really enjoyed seeing the connection and push/pull relationship develop between Varick and Keldwyn. Another keeper.

Amazing!

This is the story I waited for. Lord Uthe's and Lots Keldwyn's story! Beautifully written! I always wondered what Uthe's story was! Two worlds coming together in love! Love is love no matter who it is between! Loved it, can't wait to see what's next!

An exciting bromance between Lord Keldwyn (fea) and Lord Uthe (vampire) as Lord Uthe completes a quest he started back in the days of the First Knights Templar. Joey Hill present's a thrilling tempo to the efforts of completing a dangerous lifelong quest.
It did feel a little forced in parts.
