When Vanessa Forster offers herself as a "pledge" to Alasdair "The Devil" Gray until her family pays a debt, she does not expect to fall in love with the handsome, charming "Devil." By the author of Forbidden Desires. Original.
She lives on the southeast coast of New England in a big house built in 1865—haunted, of course (this is New England, aren't they're ALL haunted?—and only a five minute walk from the ocean, with a husband she loves almost as much as he loves football, fishing & firearms.
Roaming the internet is only one of her obsessions.
It seemed to me there was an inordinate amount of repetition, especially at first, and the story didn't move along until about three-quarters through.
Also, it seemed to me the characters' names were not appropriate for the time and place. Alasdair is usually a Scottish name, but it was the Englishman who was thus named. Vanessa is Greek, so it could be in use in many countries, but I've never heard another Scottish heroine named that. Kirsta is a typically Scandinavian name, not English. Even Cavnearal seems like a misspelling of a Scottish name, but it was the English stronghold.
Little things like that grated on me as I read the story as did the attempt at Scottish dialect. It just didn't feel right, most of the time.
I have the hardcover with a castle, sword and tartan on the cover. This cover makes more sense for the romance part. I would've never bought it with this one. Story line was good but ugh the sensual scenes were drawn out so long. Eh. Not my type of book. Would've been much better if title was different, not sexual, and sensual scaled way back. I would've given it more stars. Will not read more of this author unless a non-romance.

Could not finish. It had a lot of potential, but a lot of what was going on didn’t make sense and there was a lot of back and forth. I wish the roles were reversed and he was Scottish and she was English. It would’ve made since because of the picture on the cover??
The plot was a little shaky, with many twists and turns to try and keep up with! I certainly liked Vanessa's fire, and the humor lain beneath all the romance.
