What the Hier Ruler wants, the Hier Ruler gets. And he wants Vanessa.
Vanessa is an artist, stuck in the grey world Earth has become. Yet she doesn't yearn to leave, despite there being nothing left for her on her home planet.

Still like the books.. still going to read the next but… this guy was super anti-loving humans and he flipped his script super fast!

This series is really starting to be a series I enjoy and want to continue. This book continues where book 2 left off. The ruler of Karal has decided to go to earth to meet and see what earth is really about. While there he see's his lotto winner and is more than underwhelmed and not impressed but his job is to impregnate her and drop her off at the breeders houses. While Lytril's out exploring an acid rain happens and a kind woman offers her hand and brings him into her house out of the rain and danger.
Vanessa is out one day trying to find paints when an acid rain happens and Vanessa does what she thinks is no big deal and helps someone in need. When Vanessa see's Lytril she knows right away that he is an alien and her inquisitive nature takes over. Lytril has never met anyone so alive as Vanessa and just the little time together has changed him. One of these changes made in him has him doing something he never would have thought of before. Lytril changes the lotto winner to be Vanessa.
Vanessa never planned or wanted to leave earth but there is something about Lytril she can't deny and she finds she wants to spend more time with him. But the future may not be so great when Vanessa finds out what the plans are for the earth woman who go to Karal, and even if Lytril decides to change all the rules of his planet there are some who don't agree and who don't want any changes at all and they are willing to use Vanessa to destroy Lytril is necessary .
I liked this one the story is different from he others and this change was nice and kept the series exciting and not tiring or boring. I really liked Vanessa and Lytril and I love that with each book we are getting more and more. We also are getting more information about other's from Karal and it's just making me more excited for the future books. With each book while getting more we also get more questions that keep getting revealed with each book and giving us a deeper understanding into the planet Karal. This is defiantly a series I recommend if you are a PNR fan as each book just makes me more and more excited.

Earth has exhausted all it's natural resources and is slowly dying as a race and planet because of it. The one saving factor is an alien planet Karal that has sponsors a periodic lottery for eligible women who are willing to relocate to their planet and mate with their males. The option is totally optional but the only opportunity women have to survive.
The Hier Ruler of Karal, Lytril, has been tasked to mate with one of the Earth females to procreate a son who will be the future ruler of Karal. With no eligible females left on Karal, Earth is the only viable option for his planet so Lytril is tasked to be the next prize in the lottery. It's not a duty Lytril is looking forward to but for the good of the planet he must.
A chance meeting with a female other than the one designated to be his mate results in Lystril manipulating the lottery process to assure Vanessa is the winner. Even if she doesn't want to be. No matter, it's an honor to be his mate and she will adjust.

Overall, this was a pleasant standalone installment that follows the 'aliens need Earth women' sci-fi formula. Can't say it had any suspense-thriller or action-adventure content, just a core romance with a degree of angst and an alpha male finding out that Earth women have a core strength that can bring any alien to his knees, one way or another.
There are a limited number of adult content scenes between the main characters that actually compliments the storyline and makes sense without seeming out of place or forced. Just to let those who do value their adult content SFR reads know that if you're grabbing this book for that alone, you will be sorely disappointed.
My issue was that there was something missing for me that I really couldn't put my finger on. Best possible I can come up with is that the whole story was just too clinical and sterile. It was almost as if a neutral third party was retelling the tale omitting the human emotionalism between Lytril & Vanessa. Hard to become vested in characters who lack that aspect for the reader. Other than that I really can't describe why this tale didn't thrill but there you go.
Recommend this book to a limited degree. It's pleasant and probably will be enjoyed by those who look for fantasy fairy tale romance type reads but won't appeal to fans who look for complex or suspenseful format stories. It's a straightforward romance that will leave you with warm fuzzy happy feelings at the end.

Such a wonderful series Such a shame
What a wonderful story, not book #3 only, the entire premise behind the series storyline. And here comes a big 'BUT'... but not if you don't go through all three together. I encourage everyone to begin with #1 and read them back to back as I did. If you don't, then the disappointment of the obvious gaps will be even more evident. Each one is seriously incomplete with major literary opportunities missed. Book 3 clearly dropped the ball with the end. OMG, such emotions around what happened were completely thrown out the window. I don't understand this need to crank out 'books' so quickly at the cost of the story excellence. These stories have underlying meanings/lessons which are diminished by their lack of completeness and character development....and for what? I gave books 1-3 four stars but individually, because of the above, they would rate only 2.

Book was really good, but the last chapter ruined it for me. Horrific beating, but he takes her to the forest and suddenly everything is okay? Just felt the sequence between happy couple, horrible whipping and then back to happy couple was too jarring with not enough guilt or remorse on hero's side. You caused a woman to pass out from being whipped! Happy sunshiny birds ain't gonna fix that.

Yowza! Harmony Raines has strutted her stuff and once again surprised us all with a foray into the wonderful world of science fiction and what a delightfully entertaining treat it is! I love it! Power is the amazing third book in her riveting new series, Chosen by the Karal and it totally rocks, people! Each release is a stand alone novella with no cliffhanger with each revolving around the same premise but featuring a different couple and also includes several of the previous characters in each book. Now having said that, I would like to highly recommend reading the books in order to maximize the enjoyment of each book. This is just so exciting! I love science fiction!
The premise of the series:
In a near future dystopian earth, the planet is overpopulated and on the verge of destruction. The air is polluted and there is a severe shortage of food, fuel, natural resources and breathable oxygen. Many of earth's animals are now extinct. Six months ago, an alien race called the Karal arrived via a wormhole offering to help mankind and save the day in exchange for an alliance and breedable women. Wait! What? Women? A lottery has been called and women that meet certain criteria have the option to enter their names in the drawing. And just what is the prize if you win the lottery, you ask? To move to the planet Karal where food and oxygen is abundant, become the very lucky mate to one of the handsome aliens, serve as his personal broodmare and become an alien baby machine. Huh? Wait, that's the prize?
The plot of this story:
Lytril, the leader and Hier Ruler of Karal is very unhappy with the outcome of the two lottery pairings between his race and the earth women. Both of his men have fallen in love with their mates and now insist that the women be allowed to live with them. It's almost as if they have been bewitched and have fallen under some sort of spell. He has to discover what strange magic these human women have cast and that only leaves him one option. He will offer himself as the next lottery prize. He will take a mate himself, have sex with her until she carries his son and then will send her away to live in the isolated living quarters for all females on the planet as it has been done for generations - as it should be. Then he will take his son and raise him - alone - just as his father raised him. After all, he is the Hier Ruler; he's the strongest of all his people. He's had computer simulated sex and doesn't even find it to be remotely arousing or satisfying. So after secretly spying on the next female lottery winner, he's more convinced than ever that his plan will succeed. He's not attracted to her in the least. He finds the whole idea of having sex with her repulsive and distasteful. It's only a necessary evil in order for his race to procreate and continue their species - nothing more. He could never become enamored with a human woman. They were like their planet - undesirable. He would never fall under the spell of a human female. Or would he?!!? The book is written as dual, alternating points of view, his and hers, and gives the reader an insightful peek into the mindset of both primary characters. The story is exciting, original, inventive, unusual, well executed, fast-paced, romantic and arousing. The dialogue is well written and flows effortlessly. The characters are fascinating, captivating, well developed and engaging. Raines combines these elements into a brilliantly entertaining science fiction story filled with adventure and romance. No spoilers from me but I will say this...Beautiful, brave human artist who sacrifices everything to save her race-check! Handsome, stubborn Karalian Hier Ruler who refuses to acknowledge his emotions-check! Danger, drama, adventure and an enemy within willing to do the unthinkable to keep change from his planet-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, sweet romance and undeniable love-you bet! That and a whole lot more! This was by far, the most emotionally charged story to date! By the end, I was sobbing like a baby! I loved it! I can hardly wait for the next book in this exciting new series! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!!!

A intriguing adventure!
This was another amazing story of complex emotional drama between two very different species! One woman from earth and a alien leader who needs to find females for his planet. This dramatically sensual twist in their struggles for power and love come together to make a truly unique story by Harmony Raines. I loved everything about this book and recommend it to anyone who wants to take a definite trip to another world of adventure and action!

What a great series!
Lytril and Vanessa is an amazing story. Together, through their love for each other, they will try to bring peace and honesty to both people of Earth and Karal.

Brilliant Series
Power (Chosen by the Karal Book 3) by Harmony Raines. Lytril, the leader of the Karal goes to earth to see why the females are having such an effect on his warriors. He meets Vanessa and within days finds his answer.

This series makes you think. Sci-Fi tale with the dying planet Earth, and an alien species needing women to replenish their generation. A lottery will be held so a female can go to their planet to mate and procreate their species. Lytril is a high commander and goes to Earth to retrieve his lottery winner, but meets Vanessa instead and falls for her immediately. These aliens are virgins, but have studied what to do. Vanessa is herself a virgin, and this new world is different, but fresh and exciting. Lytril can't be cold and indifferent once he meets her. Feelings are changing on his planet as the females are introduced and begin to bring out the repressed emotions of the alien race. Their plan has to change if this new generation is to thrive. Interesting story, hot sex, and deep characters make this worthwhile. This can be a stand alone, but I think would be more fun for the reader if you know the characters as the series develops. Well written, realistic and telling, this is a fun series.

Love this new series!
As always Harmony Raines doesn't disappoint with this book. It's a new twist on a love story between an alien and a human female. Lytril is the Heir Ruler of the Karal species and he goes to Earth to see what this humanity his previous lottery males were speaking of. Lytril discovers the unexpected and is unprepared to know how to deal with this new knowledge. Vanessa has attempted to turn her emotions off in regards to her fellow humans on Earth, especially after what happened to her father. She has no desire to leave Earth and is determined to die alone and unloved. They are both so alike, yet different enough to really compliment each other well. Is it love at first sight, and can Lytril be forgiven for his betrayal? It's a very fast paced book, and leaves you wanting to pick up the next one to see how the next Karal fairs out on Earth.

Vanessa has attempted to turn her emotions off in regards to her fellow humans on Earth, especially after what happened to her father. She has no desire to leave Earth and is determined to die alone and unloved. They are both so alike, yet different enough to really compliment each other well. Is it love at first sight, and can Lytril be forgiven for his betrayal? It's a very fast paced book, and leaves you wanting to pick up the next one to see how the next Karal fairs out on Earth.

This was all going reasonably well for me until Lyrtil comes to Venessa's rooms and doesn't find her and in the heat of the moment says she deserves six lashes for not being there when he told her to be.
She get these six lashes even though the blame goes to someone else and Lyrtil says he did not mean it. But why? Why even in the heat of the moment would you even think of giving lashing to the woman who will be the ,other of your child one day?
Why would you even think that?
There is no real resolution or grovelling and it left me unsatisfied that Venessa was safe with Lyrtil or that his love was real. I'm just left unsatisfied.

This book was an over all disappointment. the main female character personality did a complete 180° and not in a good way. I might have been able to understand better if this book was portrayed as a short story.
That is not to say that this book did not have some good points. the character development was good I enjoyed it as well as the story plot. I can kind of see what the author was going for in the way of romance, but other than that I was really disappointed in this book. I'd say maybe 1.4 or 1.5 stars the summary had expecting a lot more from this book.

Power was a good book to read. The ruler of Karal has found his mate. Reluctantly.But he has strong feelings for that he tries to hide and deny. Though he fails. It is worth it for the smiles he gets from her.
I am loving this new book series. It is different but interesting. Looking forward to more in the series.

I liked how Lytril met Vanessa and cheated the lottery to get her and the development of how he tried to rectify past mistakes. Some stages i wont lie i didnt like him but it was how it was meant to be for his position as leader makes for harder choices. I like this series very much so far cant wait to find out what happens with nasty old Ishk, i'm guessing hes going to be proper humbled.

I didn't mind this one. I felt like there wasn't a lot of depth. She was so defiant, then all of a sudden he was the best thing since sliced bread. I'm not a fan of the on/off switch in books like this. I think with a little more detail and depth to the relationship, it could have been better.

Warning: adult sex scenes. The plot is not very strong and the hero acts pretty far out of character at times, but as always Harmony Raines delivers an enjoyable story.
