Hasta 1800 Hegel no quiso ser filósofo, sino revolucionario. De esta fase son los textos aquí presentados. Pero de la “Révolution” a las guerras napoleónicas la historia se precipita; entre 1799 y 1801 Hegel pierde pie. Entonces, con 30 años, se vuelve a la filosofía para que le enseñe a vivir.

En esta edición el “joven Hegel” es el de esa primera etapa revolucionaria, no filosófica y en la que tampoco publica nada propio. Sus esbozos y apuntes, que conservará toda su vida, se quedan inéditos. Pero en ellos se plasma una Ilustración en proceso de radicalización revolucionaria, que deriva hacia el Romanticismo, asalta el Antiguo Régimen y demanda nuevos saberes. Los esbozos entre 1793 y 1800, que por primera vez se traducen aquí completos a cualquier lengua, trazan la huella consciente y deliberada de una encrucijada capital.

About the author

Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770-1831) was a German philosopher and one of the founding figures of German Idealism. Influenced by Kant's transcendental idealism and Rousseau's politics, Hegel formulated an elaborate system of historical development of ethics, government, and religion through the dialectical unfolding of the Absolute. Hegel was one of the most well-known historicist philosopher, and his thought presaged continental philosophy, including postmodernism. His system was inverted into a materialist ideology by Karl Marx, originally a member of the Young Hegelian faction.

In general, the writings from Hegel's youth are more accessible ––although, perhaps, less polished–– than his later works. His early theological writings, in particular, are clear and provide a good introduction to important ideas developed in his Phenomenology of Spirit. The Absolute and the union of opposites, for example, are clearly present in this collection.

Moreover, these writings are generally shorter, self-contained essays––which, frankly, makes it much more likely that you will have the persistence to finish this book than, say, the 757-page Science of Logic.

Junto a la filosofía real y el sistema de la eticidad, los escritos del Hegel de Jena más importantes. Una lectura atenta de estos escritos permite comprender el tránsito (no ruptura) que se da en la Fenomenología del Espíritu. Es imprescindible conocer el pensamiento de Hegel en su juventud para así, comprender la densidad y dirección de su sistema.
