The plot was fine, the characters were fine, and the pacing was fine. I definitely enjoyed the read, but felt everything could’ve been more developed. The main character was interesting as an individual, and the men were distinguishable, but I wish there had been more time spent on development rather than insta-love. I still recommend it because it was a ton of easy fun.

Read if you like...
🌙Strong female characters (and friendships)
🌙Hurt comfort heats up

🌙Duty getting in the way of love/lust

I would like to thank The Nerd Fam and author for the opportunity to read Bound By The Scarred Moon.

Elara is the top cadet at the mage academy. An orphan, who lost both parents to a shifter attack, hell bent on taking down all werewolves. The book starts dark, with her losing her best friend to an attack. She chases a wolf, determined to end him. She finds herself deep in enemy territory teetering on a ledge. As she thinks it's over and she is going to fall the wolf grabs her arm and saves her. This sets into motion the whole book. A bite, a marking, a bond to the very thing she hates the most.

There is action, drama, the handsome alpha who saved her, a masked man with a weak spot for her, and another kidnapping wolf who has had visions of her. A why choose enemies to lovers buffet!

The last 25% of this book had me hooked. I'm looking forward to the relationships developing and the secrets and reveals of book two. Hannah Haze gained a new follower.

✨Magic school
🖤 Enemies- Mages vs Wolves
🐺 🧙 Forbidden connection

Bound by the scarred moon is the start of a new series by Hannah Haze. She’s created a new world which mages and wolves are at war.

Elara is an orphan who lives at magic school. She’s an outcast but can hold her own. One night changes everything when Elara gets into a fight with a wolf. This isn’t unusual as she’s battled with them many times before but this occasion is different. Elara gets bitten. Now her world is spiralling. Being bitten is a death sentence.

Elara is now hiding a big secret and it’s affecting her life. Will she figure out how to get her life under control or will everything change? This is a why choose romance but this first book is really about the new world and Elara. I can’t wait for more of this series.

Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the ARC and the opportunity to read this early.

The blurb of this book hooked me when I read it, but unfortunately the book just didn’t live up to the standard the blurb had set. There were hints at a future why-choose, but this book didn’t have it. I had a hard time connecting to any of the characters (except maybe Demetria). I wish Elara’s past of being the top of her class had been delved into, as it was hard to understand that via the decisions she made in this book.

The story itself was intriguing and I appreciated the POV of those who will likely be important in upcoming books. The school setting and characters were fun, albeit somewhat stereotypical of an all girls academy, but enjoyable to read nonetheless. The pacing in the book was also well done. I am glad I gave this one a chance, even though it didn’t quite hit the mark for me.

I liked this book but to me there wasn’t anything that really stood out or wowed me. I was getting annoyed with the FMC by the end. I also wasn’t really feeling the relationship between Elara and the alpha. It felt like it went from enemies to lovers like a switch had flipped. I did like the premise and it was an interesting take on shifters. I will read book two to see if this picks up more. I will say that I did like her Fractured series a little more.

Thankyou to The Nerd Farm for the advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review!

So this is what I would call your standard ‘kindle unlimited book.’
Okay, I really wanted to love this book based on the premise. It sounded like it really could be great.
I do think that the tropes are based more on the series, rather than the book on its own - because labelled as a why-choose romance - this book was not. I can only imagine this will come in book 2.

The fmc is annoying. Really annoying, unlikeable, bratty and whiny.

The whole story and characters are also unbelievably childish. It takes place in a military style girls school, and although the cadets are young adults, they act like 12 year olds, speak like 12 year olds and conduct themselves like 12 year olds in a playground it seems.

It’s also unbelievably repetitive. The book spent the first roughly 40% emphasising that she’d been bitten and had a bite on her arm - on what felt like every single page. I was cheering by the time something actually happened that far in.

It just felt completely lacklustre. Nothing happened at the end, aside from a complete backtrack of what was happening, and it was done in a way that just had me sat there going “Is Elara stupid or bipolar?” because it just didn’t make sense.

Like I said, I really wanted to love this but it was just not the one, and I won’t be picking up the rest of the series.

📝Cliff Notes Review-
A really promising premise that sadly never developed enough for me. I didn’t regret reading it, but the romance lacked chemistry and emotional connection, the world needed far more lore and history, and the fated-mate/why-choose elements felt more like setup than payoff. Elara seemed to collect potential mates, feel the pull, not understand it and then simply carry on. I wanted yearning, tension, questions, answers and actual relationship development. Instead, everything felt a little too surface level. Very disappointing considering how much potential the concept had, and I won’t be continuing the series.

😥 𝕎𝕙𝕪 𝕟𝕠 𝕗𝕚𝕧𝕖 𝕤𝕥𝕒𝕣𝕤?

This actually started as a 3⭐ read in my head, but when I compared it with the books I’ve previously rated 3 stars, I realised it simply wasn’t at the same standard. So I dropped it slightly to 2.75⭐. I didn’t hate it and I don’t regret reading it, but there were too many areas where I wanted considerably more depth, particularly the romance, chemistry, character development, lore and worldbuilding.

This wasn’t just missing the little something that would have taken it from four stars to five for me. My biggest problem was depth. I kept waiting to properly understand this world, its history, its rules, its magic, the conflict between the mages and shifters and exactly what these bonds meant. Instead, I was given pieces without enough foundation underneath them.

The romance suffered from exactly the same problem. Elara would encounter another potential mate, there would be that pull or tingly awareness, and then… that was essentially it. She didn’t understand what was happening, but rather than this creating a delicious mystery, panic, yearning or emotional conflict, she seemed to accept another confusing man being added to the equation and carry on with her day. 😂 I needed chemistry. I needed conversations and connection. I needed to understand why these people belonged together beyond fate apparently saying so.

⚜️ 🌍 𝕎𝕠𝕣𝕝𝕕 𝕓𝕦𝕚𝕝𝕕𝕚𝕟𝕘, 𝕨𝕣𝕚𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕡𝕒𝕔𝕚𝕟𝕘:
The actual premise was one of the strongest things about this book. A mage trained within a military-style academy to kill shifters becoming bound to one of the very creatures she has been taught to hate is exactly the sort of setup that should have had me hooked. Add multiple mysterious men, forbidden bonds, opposing factions and the potential for a why-choose romance, and all the ingredients were sitting right there.

The pacing itself was generally easy to move through, although certain information became repetitive, particularly earlier in the story. My bigger problem was that the book moved forward without giving me enough information to make the developments mean something. There was very little lore, history, rules, justification or detail. I wanted to understand why the mages and shifters hated one another, how their society developed, how the magic worked, what the academy had taught Elara, how the bonds operated and why these connections were important.

It occasionally felt as though I had entered a world everybody else already understood and nobody had remembered to hand me the instruction manual. For a first book in a fantasy/paranormal series, I expected much more grounding.

🧝‍♂️ ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕥𝕖𝕣𝕤:
Elara unfortunately frustrated me. I understood the foundations of her character: she has been trained to hate shifters, believes deeply in what the academy has taught her and suddenly finds herself confronting evidence that challenges everything she knows. That should have created some fantastic internal conflict, but I never felt I knew her deeply enough for those changing beliefs to have the emotional impact I wanted.

The men were distinguishable and intriguing individually, and I actually think there was a lot of potential within the group. My problem was the relationships. I don’t need immediate declarations or instant emotional intimacy, especially in book one of a developing why choose, but I do need something that makes me desperate to watch those relationships develop. Attraction and a magical pull alone aren’t enough for me.

I wanted the men and Elara to talk, clash, challenge one another and slowly discover pieces of each other. I wanted that horrible delicious feeling of I hate you, so why can’t I stop thinking about you? Instead, the romantic progression sometimes felt like a switch being flipped because the story needed the connection to exist.

⏳ 𝕎𝕠𝕦𝕝𝕕 𝕚 𝕣𝕖-𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕕 𝕠𝕣 𝕣𝕖𝕔𝕠𝕞𝕞𝕖𝕟𝕕?
I wouldn’t reread this and, unusually for a first book that is clearly laying foundations for more, I won’t be continuing the series. I don’t regret reading it, though. There were enough interesting ideas here that I can understand why another reader might enjoy it, particularly someone who prefers lighter world building and faster romantic developments.

I would recommend it cautiously to readers who love paranormal academy settings, wolf shifters, mages, fated mates, forbidden romance and developing why-choose dynamics but who aren’t looking for particularly detailed lore or deeply developed relationships from book one.

🪧𝔽𝕚𝕟𝕒𝕝 𝕥𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕥𝕤:
This was ultimately a case of loving the possibilities far more than the execution. The ingredients were practically designed for me: shifters, magic, enemies, an academy, fated bonds, multiple potential mates and a heroine whose entire belief system should be falling apart around her. I should have been eating this up.

Instead, I kept waiting for another layer that never arrived. More lore. More history. More explanations. More chemistry. More yearning. More emotional conflict. Just… more.

The thing that disappointed me most was the romance. I didn’t need the why-choose relationship completed in book one, but I wanted to finish absolutely desperate to see these people together. Instead, Elara seemed to keep discovering men, experiencing strange feelings towards them without really understanding why, and then carrying on. The bonds were there, but I didn’t feel them.

I finished it thinking “that was fine” rather than “give me book two immediately,” and with a series opener, that distinction matters. There are some genuinely interesting ideas buried in here, but I needed considerably more depth to become invested in either the world or the relationships.

I don’t regret reading it, but sadly I won’t be returning for book two.

⭐️ DNF

⭐️⭐️
I managed to finish it but it was rubbish. I won't keep a physical copy and won't recommend it, but  it's a shame as the plot could have made a good book in another author's hands

⭐️⭐️.5
It was OK. I wish I didn't start this one as it didn't do it for me as I struggled to read it. It had an interesting premise that fell flat but I had to see what happened in the end.

⭐️⭐️⭐️
I don't regret reading it, and I will read the next one, but this one did have a few flaws. [These could be repetitive writing, gaps or plot holes, better character growth or world building, areas needing more detail]
Generally, the book lacked depth and became confusing. The plot resonated with me even though it annoyed me on the whole.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
I'm glad I read it. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to the right people, but I wanted more! Sadly, it's easily forgettable with a few issues I just couldn't overlook/get past.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Good book! I loved it, but... I needed more! I really did enjoy it, but it had a few parts that needed more detail or added history/background or lore. But that's because the story or characters were memorable, and the plot was strong with brilliant twists. I would re-read if I needed to catch up for the next book and would recommend.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Great book! I truly wish the story had been thought about more, or the author had been given more time as this book is so close to brilliance! I will likely read again and will definitely be recommending it to all!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
WOW! Absolutely amazing book! Well written with great characters and a plot so memorable that it will stay with me. I will definitely read this again, I will be recommending it and sharing it with the whole world! Also- I NEED A PHYSICAL COPY!

🔥⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🔥
This is my God level tier. The book must be perfectly memorable. Even after reading 50+ more books, I will remember character names and emotions along with the plot. If there is a special edition, then I need to own it! If there is a conversation on books- I'm talking about this!

 SPICE SCALE:
🌶️– segsual language and a little on-page action / fade to black

🌶️🌶️– a lot of segsual language and some on-page open door action, may be occurring a couple of times

🌶️🌶️🌶️– a lot of explicit action and dirty talk, occurring frequently with 2/3 lurvers

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ – super graphic and explicit, occurring 4 or more times, can be more grey and taboo themed.

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ – Kinks and Fet!shism, explicit and super graphic. It is likely to be tushy play, toys, playrooms, and more dark / taboo fantasies and realities.

Overall, I think this is a solid start to a new series. The description really caught me and I’ve always wanted to pick up a Hannah Haze book. The thought of mages and wolves having a war against each other, I thought was very interesting and this was advertised as why choose basically enemies to lovers intrigued me. It’s something that is very much of my alley. We have our main female character who is an orphan and ends up coming into the Academy and she’s the strongest one. She’s top of her class. She’s the most outstanding and of course she has competition and they don’t get along well. Now I will say when it comes to these two and when they speak to each other, this is the only time I have issues with this book really. I felt like a couple times in the book the dialogue they had in between them and how they spoke didn’t really match the rest and it took me out of my reading flow.
We can definitely see as the story moves along We slowly find out who the players/mmcs in this why choose are going to be or who we assume are going to be the MMCs are. They do get their own POV so it’s affair assumption. I found each of them in intriguing. I really wanted more backstory on them, especially as the story moved on and on. I have a lot of questions that aren’t answered yet and I definitely will be reading the next one in order to find more out. I do feel like some of the things closer to the end were a little bit more abrupt but in the end, I’m fine with that. I would end up ratimg this like 3.5 to 3.75 stars. I will round it up though for review purposes. I am excited to see how this continues on.

Oh my god Hannah! That ending! I need book 2 immediately.

I really enjoyed this book. Elara is hell bent on revenge and wants to take out as many shifters as she can, until she is bitten by Rhydian and he literally turns her world upside down.

The hate between these two is tangible but I loved watching how tortured and conflicted they were due to the mates bond. There can be no happy ending, can there?

This is going to be a why choose romance however, this is the first book in the series, so it felt like it was just setting up the scene for this to happen at a later date and we are only introduced to the Dark Raven and Silas. I was all for it though as I loved Rhydian and would happily just have the romance with him. I am intrigued by The Dark Raven and can’t wait to find out more about him but I’m not keen on Silas yet. I’m sure that will change as we get to know him more too.

I enjoyed the world building so far, the shifters and the mages have been at war for a very long time and the academies are training cadets to fight in the war, but there’s still so much that I am dying to know more about, which I’m hoping to find out more about in the next book.

I can’t forget to mention Selene either. I hated her so much, the ultimate mean girl. I would have loved to blast her with my magic.

Overall, this was a fun, tension filled, spicy, and action packed book and I cannot wait for the next installment.

I rate this 4.5⭐️

I know Hannah Haze loves an academy PNR why choose, and I usually don't mind it (I like them too!), but I really don't think this book needed to be set at an academy. Literally none of the male main characters exist at the academy, so she doesn't interact with them at all except a few chapters later in the book. The first half of this book was a bit boring tbh - there is no romance in it at all. I know they are enemies-to-lovers so there shouldn't be romance at the start (I'm OK with that!), but they literally do not interact. I had to double-check that this was a why-choose and not a MF romance at about 60% into the book because she had only interacted with one guy so far (and barely at that).

I'll probably read book 2, but I'm going to need the series to step it up for me to stick it out to the ending. The main characters NEED to interact. The academy storyline adds nothing to this - they are already seasoned fighters who are engaging in battle. Why do they need to be students too with classes/homework/mean girl bullies etc.?

Anyways, I was a bit let-down by this because my hopes were really high, but it was still generally entertaining (especially in the last half when it got better).

This book had me from the first chapter, when Elara takes off after a shifter she sees to avenge her friend, Immy, in the middle of a magical battle.

‘The first thing they teach you at the military academy: how to slaughter a shifter.
The second thing they teach you: there’s no room for weakness.’

The opening line is enough to tell you exactly how Elara is and how she believes in the Academy and what they’ve taught her, because it has allowed her to achieve so much from where she came from.

Rhydian leads his people with much on his shoulders. He saved Elara out of instinct, but his bite has now made her his mate. They’re sworn enemies, yet something pulls him to her; something made him save her and mark her instead of letting her perish. Now they are bound together for life.

‘ It wasn’t meant to happen this way. Not her. Not my enemy.
What would my grandfather have made of that? Or my father?
I screw my eyes up tighter. I know the answer to that question.’

Yes, even he questioned himself until he remembered the taste of her blood and her magic. Where they meant to be? He thinks so.

What I love about this read is that the author keeps you guessing if Elara is going to get caught at the Academy; she keeps you on edge, then she brings in an unknown, who completely throws everything into a huge spin, because now you don’t want her to get caught. Still, you are rooting for Elara and Rhydian to come together because you know it’s going to be epic. Now we have a broody man who wears a mask from the Silent Watch, from the mages council,l looking for the cadet who was bitten.
Can he be trusted? He meets Elara, and now we need to know more. There’s another shifter we meet, Silas, who is a bit unhinged. I can’t wait to find out more about all three of these men, how they are connected, and where the story goes. This author has left us on one heck of a cliffhanger.

I’ll be honest, I can go on and on about the book, but I fear I will give too much away! I recommend that you read it!

A mage military academy, wolf shifters, enemies on opposite sides of a war, fated mates, and multiple dangerously questionable men? Yes. This was absolutely my kind of chaos.

Elara has spent her entire life believing shifters are the enemy. Then Rhydian saves her life and accidentally marks her with a bite that could get them both killed. Now she has to hide the mark while fighting a bond she doesn’t understand, questioning everything she has been taught, and somehow attracting even more men because apparently one forbidden shifter was not enough. 😂

The beginning throws you straight into the action, so it took me a minute to understand the world and magic. Once everything started coming together, though, I was invested. I loved that Elara and Rhydian genuinely distrust each other instead of immediately accepting their connection. The push and pull between them was so good.

Since this is the first book, there is still a lot left unexplained. I wanted more history about the war between the mages and shifters and more development for the other potential love interests. But the foundation is definitely there, and I am very curious to see how this why-choose situation unfolds.

And that ending? RUDE. I will absolutely be reading book two.

OMGGGGG, this boooook!!!! I binged it all in one day once I was able to sit and read. It was so hard to put down and I had an absolute blast reading it.

From the beginning, I was entranced and couldn’t stop. I loved the way the FMC takes no one’s sh!t and does what’s best for her! The way everything unravels the more we read had me unable to put the book down.

I also love the way the mates are slowly revealed, I was squealing each time another one appeared. Especially when they all come into her life for different reasons!! I love that she has two deranged men and one who would rather k!ll her then be with her or would he? However, that ending???? How am I supposed to wait for the next book after that ending!!!!! 😭😂

That’s all I’ll say… lol just know you neeeeeed to read this!

This book hooked me from the beginning. I really enjoyed seeing all the tropes. I enjoyed the cliffhanger ending and all of the action that propelled the story forward. Very hard to put this book down. So many questions as I impatiently wait for the next book!!

You’re dropped right into the middle of a battle from page one, and it is a wild ride from the very start!

𝐁𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐌𝐨𝐨𝐧 by Hannah Haze delivers a dark academia setting where wolf shifters clash with mages, and the tension is off the charts. Our FMC, Elara, was trained to kill shifters—not fall into their arms. She is definitely no wallflower! I haven’t fully decided if I love her yet, but watching her wrestle with duty versus destiny makes for a page turner.

Unlike Hannah Haze’s other series, you don’t get the full why-choose dynamic right away. First, the story focuses heavily on Rhysdian, an alpha shifter, giving us an addictive, slow burn, enemies to lovers fated mates pairing. The push and pull and the undeniable dilemma of the fates had me totally hooked!

Then, we get introduced to two other MMCs who leave you so curious:
🔥 An unhinged shifter whose methods will have you raising your eyebrows
🖤 A mysterious, broody commander who gives major "I'll burn the world for you" vibes

I’m already dying to jump into book two!

Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the ARC and the opportunity to read this early!

Sadly, this one just didn’t work for me. I really wanted to connect with the characters, especially with a why choose romance, but everyone felt very flat and 2D to me. I never really felt a strong connection with any of the guys, which made the romance fall a little flat.

Elara also got on my nerves quite a bit throughout the book. Some of her choices had me questioning her decision-making more than once, and I found myself getting frustrated with her instead of rooting for her.

The premise had a lot of potential, but unfortunately the characters and romance just weren’t there for me.

🌙 Bound by the Scarred Moon by Hannah Haze 🌙

Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the gifted copy! 💜

Okay… I’m going to be honest. I’m not sure if I’m too old for this book, or if I’ve simply reached the point where I expect a little more from an author who is a USA Today Bestseller. 😅

Elara is a 20-something orphaned student attending a mage war college. After losing her best friend during a battle, she completely loses it and goes after Rhydian, the MMC. From there, much of the story revolves around Elara hiding her bite, trying to understand what it means, coming to terms with her possible fate, and navigating life at the war college.

On paper, this had SO many things I usually love. 👀

✨ Why choose
✨ Enemies to lovers
✨ Fated mates
✨ War college
✨ Shifters
✨ Slow burn

But unfortunately, I struggled to see some of those elements fully come together in this first book.

The slow burn? Absolutely. 😂 The first spicy scene doesn't happen until around 85% into the book, so Hannah Haze was definitely committed to making us WAIT.

But the enemies-to-lovers and why-choose elements didn't quite land for me. There is a lot of setup and world-building, but I often found myself wanting more explanation and substance behind what was happening.

For example, the whole fated-mate bite mechanic really didn't work for me. The story takes place during a war between mages and shifters, so the idea that essentially anyone could potentially bite and claim anyone as their mate at any given moment raised WAY too many questions for me. 😂

I'm completely here for a good claiming bite. 🐺🩸 But I needed this particular mechanic to make more sense within the world.

And then there are the mysterious references to the past.

Rhydian, Silas, and The Dark Raven constantly allude to things they've done, battles they've fought, secrets they've kept, or things that would apparently make everyone look at them differently if they only knew…

And I'm sitting there like:

BUT WHAT DID YOU DO?! 👀

Tell me!

There is clearly a much bigger story happening behind the scenes, but so much of it remains frustratingly vague. We know there is a war. We know these characters have complicated histories. We know there are secrets. But I wanted to understand WHY.

The same issue came up for me with Silas and The Dark Raven. Their attraction to Elara felt like it was primarily driven by lust, without enough development to make me understand why her. I wanted more emotional groundwork and more of a reason for their connection to her beyond the obvious.

And honestly, I think that's what kept this book from fully working for me.

There is clearly a LOT more to this world. I could see glimpses of something that could become really interesting, but I felt like too much of that information was being held back in book one.

If the reasons behind the war, the characters' histories, the mate-bond mechanics, and the relationships had been fleshed out more, I think I would have been much more forgiving of some of the other things that didn't quite work for me.

That said, I don't want my criticisms to overshadow the positives.

The writing itself is good. ✨ The book is readable, the pacing kept me moving forward, and the ending is a solid cliffhanger. I actually thought the cliffhanger was well done, which is saying something because cliffhangers can be a dangerous game with me. 😂

I just wanted more.

More world-building that actually answered questions rather than creating more of them.
More character development.
More explanation behind the war.
More substance behind the relationships.
More reasons for these characters to be drawn to Elara.

There is definitely potential here, and I can see the larger story Hannah Haze is setting up. I just don't think enough of that larger story made it onto the page in book one for me to become fully invested.

📖 Overall: The writing is strong, the premise is intriguing, and the cliffhanger definitely sets up the next book. But for me, the world and relationships needed more development to give the story the impact I think it was aiming for.

Bound by the Savage Moon is book one, and the perfect beginning, for the Bonds of Silver and Spell series, a new and exciting series by Hannah Haze for lovers of Why Choose and romantasy.

Elara Brightsky, our fierce FMC, is the number one student at the Mage-Kind Academy. She is strong and powerful, driven to succeed by pain, grief, revenge, and a deep hatred of shifters.

The way I just know there are so many secrets and lies waiting to be uncovered had me on the edge of my seat, desperate to find out what would happen next.

Their relationships? I absolutely loved how much they truly hated each other. How they tried to kill each other, only to keep saving each other instead.

The men were so unexpected, and I loved getting to know them.

🐺 Rhydian Blackfang, Alpha of the Northern Pack, loyal to his people and fiercely protective of Elara, even while wanting her dead at the same time.

🐦‍⬛ The Dark Raven, Commander of the Silent Watch, ruthless and enigmatic. I just kept wanting to know more about him.

💀 Silas Bonehide from the Western Pack. Absolutely unhinged, dark, crazy and delicious.

The world-building is so interesting, and I really enjoyed the magic system. The slow burn is also very well written, and the supporting characters made everything even better.

Now, that cliffhanger at the end… it sent my thoughts drifting in so many directions and now I just want to fly straight to next book.

So, if you love:
🫦 Why-Choose
✨ Mages vs Shifters
⚔️ Enemies to Lovers
🔮 Fated Mates
🔥 Slow Burn
💘 Forbidden Love

…then you NEED to add this to your TBR immediately. You are going to love this brand new romantasy.

Thank you so much, Hannah, for the adventure that this book took me on... Can't wait for Crossed by the Falling Stars!

This book had me hooked. 😭

I’m always a sucker for enemies-to-lovers, fated mates and a good forbidden romance, so this one had basically everything I was looking for. The whole mage vs. shifter setup was really fun, especially with the heroine being someone who has spent her entire life hunting shifters, only to end up bonded to one.

I really liked the heroine. She’s strong, determined and understandably full of anger after everything she’s been through, but she also has this vulnerability underneath all that toughness. Watching her struggle with the fact that she’s becoming the very thing she was raised to hate was one of my favourite parts.

And then there are the men… 👀

The fated-mate bonds, the tension, the morally grey characters and the whole you belong to us now vibe definitely brought the spice and drama. I especially enjoyed the mystery surrounding the masked executioner and the hints that there’s something much bigger going on with the ancient powers in the mountains.

This is definitely a slow burn, though, so if you’re looking for instant romance and all the relationships to develop straight away, this probably isn’t that. The bonds are clearly being built across the trilogy, which made this first book feel more like the beginning of a much bigger story.

And that ending?! 😩 Of course we get a cliffhanger.

If you like:
✨ Enemies to lovers
✨ Fated mates
✨ Forbidden mate bonds
✨ Why choose/reverse harem romance
✨ Morally grey men
✨ Shifters & mages
✨ Hidden powers and chosen-one vibes
✨ Revenge arcs
✨ Slow-burn romance
✨ Cliffhangers that make you need the next book immediately

This book was fun, addictive start to the trilogy, and I’m definitely curious to see where the bonds and all the supernatural drama go next. 🖤🌙

I was really intrigued by the premise of Bound by the Savage Moon, and the story dives in pretty quickly. The writing itself was easy to follow, and there were a lot of ideas here that I genuinely liked. Unfortunately, I just kept wanting more depth… not only from the characters and their relationships, but from the world itself.

There are quite a few characters introduced throughout the story, but I never felt like I really knew them. And I don’t mean that I needed to know everything about every character. I actually love when a book leaves me with questions about someone. When you’re given enough pieces of who they are that you can start building all those what-ifs around their behaviour, their history, their motives, or what they might be hiding. You don’t need all the answers for a character to feel fully realised.

For me, though, I didn’t quite get enough of those pieces here. I wanted more grounding behind the characters’ motivations, their decisions, and why they responded to certain people and situations the way they did. Instead of being curious because I could sense there was something deeper underneath, I often felt like I was missing the depth that would have made me curious in the first place.

I had a similar problem with the world. I liked the concepts and the different groups and dynamics within it, but I wanted more substance underneath it all. I wanted to understand how this world works, how its history has shaped the people living within it, and where some of the tensions and beliefs between different groups really came from. There were pieces of that throughout the story, but they never quite came together into a world that felt completely tangible or lived-in to me.

That also affected how I connected with Elara. Some of her feelings and beliefs are obviously very strong, and we do learn more about where they come from as the story progresses, but I wanted to feel the foundation of them more deeply. I understood that she felt a certain way because the story told me she did, but I didn’t always feel like I had enough underneath that to fully believe in the intensity of it. And when those beliefs began to be challenged, I think I needed that stronger foundation for the changes to really land.

Ultimately, there were a lot of interesting pieces here, but I wanted another layer beneath them. I wanted to understand the characters more, have enough of them to wonder about everything I didn’t know, believe in their relationships more, and feel immersed in the world rather than simply moving through it.

Sadly, this one fell short for me.

I saw that this was a why choose romance, so I immediately knew that I had to read it! Add shifters, a mage, and forbidden love, and I’m done for. 🫠

This was such a fun, easy read! It took me a few chapters to get into, but once I was hooked, I flew through it and couldn’t put it down. 👏

We follow Elara, a mage in training at a military academy where she’s taught to fight shifters. During a battle, the pack alpha saves her life, while biting her in the process, creating a forbidden mating bond between a shifter and a mage.

I really liked the shifters, I am such a sucker for the whole found family pack dynamic. ❤️ I do have to say that I wasn’t as invested in the mages so far. I also struggled with how often everyone kept telling us how amazing Elara was. It was mentioned so much that, ironically, it actually made me like her a little less. 😂

And then we have the potential other love interest… or maybe even two? 👀 The why choose isn’t there yet in book 1, but I think this is a build up to what’s to come.

I do have to say that I missed some more world building, would love to know more about the shifters and mages and why they are at war with each other. 🤔 But I have a feeling that we are getting more in the next book. So I’m definitely curious to see what’s next in store for us!

I was trained to kill shifters—not fall into their arms.

BbtSM is the first novel by Hannah Haze I’ve ever read, and it is also the first in the "Bonds of Silver & Spell" trilogy.
It is a romantasy with slightly dark undertones (though not excessively so!) that centers on the eternal war between mages and shapeshifters.

On one side, we have Elara, an orphan who fought tooth and nail to gain entry into the most prestigious military academy for mages and earn the title of elite cadet. She did all this for a chance to exact revenge on the creatures that tore her family away from her and left her to grow up in an orphanage—treated like a societal outcast.
It is during one of these bloody battles that Elara’s destiny crosses paths with Rhydian, the Alpha of a large shapeshifter pack. One might assume an Alpha’s first instinct would be to clash with his enemy in a fierce fight, but something shifts within him; in an attempt to save her life, he bites her, marking her as his Mate. It is a dangerous role for both of them—but especially for her—as she must now hide this bond from the Academy or risk being branded a traitor.

They now find themselves in a precarious balance—a difficult and uncharted situation. Rhydian has done the unthinkable, and Elara must contend with physical and psychological changes that won't go unnoticed by those around her—people who are eagerly waiting for her to make a misstep so they can snatch her title away. But beyond this, other forces are at play—someone who seems deeply interested in this new, unexpected bond; someone who may be driven by more than mere curiosity, perhaps seeking to turn the situation to their own advantage.

A mage x wolf shifter pairing who are fated mates with steamy angst? Yes. A military college setting with prophecies, rival clans and dark academia vibes? I love it. Enemies to lovers, forbidden romance and a slow building why choose trope? Absolutely yes. Bound by the Scarred Moon must be added to your TBR!

From the very first page, you are thrown straight into a brutal battle between mages and shifters. I was instantly intrigued by Elara, our FMC, a fierce cadet who is top of her class. Specialized and trained to kill wolf shifters. When she loses her best friend in the opening fight, her grief morphs into revenge. Hunting the biggest wolf she can find, she chases him down demanding justice. Everything changes when she's bitten and saved by this wolf. Bonding her to her enemy.

This book is action packed, steamy, and incredibly easy to devour. With three MMC’s there is a delicious amount of tension and banter. My only complaint is the pacing. It moves too fast at times where the plot feels lacking in depth at certain points. But since the plot is still pretty solid overall, it’s easy to move past this issue. I really enjoyed the fact that this first book focused on the MMC, Rhysdian, and the why choose aspect will continue throughout the series.

And that ending has me ready for the next book!

3.75 stars rounded up!

Firstly, thank you The NerdFam and Hannah Haze for the gifted ARC 💜

I enjoyed reading this book. It was easy to read and not complicated. And I love a book with multiple POVs. The magic and lore was easy to follow…however…

It just felt like it lacked development and depth. I wanted to know more about the characters past and what lead them to being the way they are.
I wanted more history and understanding about the war. The author gives us little pieces but the foundation was lacking.

It had a lot of potential but the refinement and execution weren’t there.

I love a ‘why-choose’ but this only hints at it so I presume it’s building up for book 2, but it’s not enough to keep me hooked.

The chemistry and romantic connection between the FMC and MMC just wasn’t there for me.

I loved that the male characters were so different and part of me is very curious on what will happen with Silas. I’m just not 100% sold on continuing the series though.

Spice rating: 🌶️.5

Thank you to The Nerd Fam and the author for this gifted e-ARC. I really enjoyed this one. It was an easy read and I’m looking forward to the next installment.

Elara is a mage and fights in a military academy against the shifters that have taken everything from her. The mages and shifters deeply hate each other. Early on, Elara is bitten (claimed) by a shifter. The bite refuses to heal and Elara spends much of the book hiding it from her leadership and other cadets. The book didn’t really pick up until about 3/4 of the way through. Elara is captured by another shifter who wants to claim her, while also being investigated by another mysterious figure because of the bite on her arm. None of these three can stay away from her. She ends up being rescued by the shifter that bit her and they give into the mating bond.

I would have liked a little more plot and character development. I didn’t really connect fully with any of the 3 guys, so hopefully book 2 will provide more background and development.

I enjoyed the book and vibed my whole way through. The plot was good and the characters were ok. I didn’t really like our fmc but the mmc’s is where I was really intrigued especially with The Dark Raven.

I think this book should have spent more time with the world-building, but my hope is that the next one answers the questions this one left me with. There wasn’t much romance considering the mc’s were hardly together but when they were it was very typical of fated mates but add in a little hate since mages & wolves are at war.

I will probably read the next one still because i need to know more about The Dark Raven.

Tropes:
-shifters x mages
-forced proximity
-fated mates
-why choose
-forbidden love

-ARC READ. Thank you to the Nerd Fam for an e-arc of this book for my honest review.

Hannah hooked you from the first sentice “The first thing they teach you at the military academy: how to slaughter a shifter. The second thing they teach you: there’s no room for weakness.”

This is when I knew this was going to be a great read. I absolutly enjoyed it. Elara was such an amazing FMC. I loved how fierce, and completly unapologetic she was. Now you bring in the three Mcs and holy 🔥 the tention was just perfect.

You will love this book, but yes it does end on a cliffhanger.

Thank you The Nerd Fam for the advanced reader copy.

This was a good start of the series.
We have an academy for witches that are training and also fighting with wolf shifters.
Elara Brightsky our main characters who fought hard to reach a top spot in the academy. She was smart and determined to be the best of her class.
It was interesting to read how the academy worked and the training and the fights they had.
We are slowly introduced to the MMC's.
Rhydian is the first one and the kindest most caring character. He is understanding even when he doesn't fully agree with our FMC.
The Dark Raven is strong and mysterious and the one i would like to find more about. I mean who doesn't love a powerful and mysterious man.
Silas we meet at the very and and he seems to be the unhinged one with the cutest animal companion called Whisp.
Secrets, betrayal and revelations and most of all a war coming.
I liked this book and it set the pacing for the second book.

It’s no secret, if you’ve been following a while you know that shifter books are an obsession with me. This first book in the Bonds of Silver and Spell series grabbed me and pulled me in.

Elara – tough, talented, driven while also wanting to be chosen for who she is. Rhydian – a leader, formidable, lonely and in need of someone to understand him for him and not that he’s an alpha. I enjoyed their individual stories, the anguish of losing people close to you and finding out that maybe being Mage and a Shifter really doesn’t make them that different. The last 2 chapters and the cliffhanger got me ready for book 2 now.

Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the ARC of Bound by the Scarred Moon.

First off, thank you so much to the Nerd Fam and author for an advanced reader copy of this book! I had an enjoyable time reading this book, and thought the concept of the book was fantastic. I did struggle a little bit with the pacing and general feel of the book being more of a backstory than the story moving forward, but overall it was not enough for me to not enjoy the overall book. I am excited to see the direction the next book takes, as the cliffhanger at the end was a perfect way to make me want to read more.
