Bella has a bear named Arthur. Like other bears, he's soft and cuddly. Unlike other bears, Arthur knows karate and works tirelessly all night to protect Bella from monsters, dragons, slugs, and other things that lurk in the shadows. One night, Arthur goes missing. Her mother, her father, and her little brother search high and low, but he is nowhere to be found. Will Bella ever find him again? Or can she find a way to be brave all on her own?

"I received my BA and Ma in Illustration at Edinburgh College of Art. After leaving college, I worked for four years in publishing as a Children’s book designer. One spring day in 2001 I woke up ready for change. I finally took the plunge and quit my job to pursue my true passion of children’s illustration. Small was the first book I both wrote and illustrated.”
Since then she has published several books, moved between the UK, Canada and the US and has now settled in the UK with her family. She recently studied for an MA in Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art where she rediscovered her love of painting and pursued her passion for picture books.

I enjoy the spirit of this book (one of helpfulness) and compassion. When Bella looses her favorite lovey Arthur the Bear, she struggles to be brave at night. I caught on quickly when the text mentioned the brothers reaction to a missing Arthur. It took Erin longer but she liked the sibiling aspect and the pictures. There is an old fashioned feel to the illustrations ...it is a delight to look @ Arthur on every page esp at the breakfast table. Great book on the following topics: bears, favorite toys, lovies, sibilings, nightime, bravery, dreams, compassion and cooperation. Whew, quite a lot for a picture book and well done!

This would be a great book for a child who is learning to sleep without some sort of security blanket etc. The little girl in this book always sleeps with her teddy bear and when it goes missing her parents assure her she'll find it in time for bed but she doesn't and has to deal without him. When she finally finds him in her baby brother's bed she takes him back and doesn't care if the baby cries. But then she realizes that he is probably afraid of all the things she used to be and needs Arthur more than she does. Good for big sisters and turning into big girl stories.
I night with out a beloved stuff animal can be torture for a child. Arthur (the bear) keeps out Fire breathing Dragons, Grizzly bears and slugs...YES slugs!!
This is a sweet (but not too sweet) story about a girl growing up and sharing her beloved bear to a baby brother how needs protections from monsters....and slugs!!
Jessica could not sleep without her stuff animal Arthur. Her little brother had it all along. When she sees how much more he may need it, she decides to let him have it. This is a sweet bedtime story for children. It is good for pre-k (very young) children to read aloud.
Compassion: Bella has lost her bear, Arthur, and doesn't think she can sleep without him. When she finally finds him in her baby brothers bed she realizes that he needs Arthur more than she does.
