Still reeling from the previous week's situation in St. Paul, homicide detective DJ Jesseray goes home to the loving, supportive arms of family. But when supernatural threats crop up in unsuspecting Grand Rapids, Minnesota, she must rise to the challenge.
For a force of rogue werewolves howls through the area, killing cattle and scaring tourists, the lifeblood of the local economy. After generations-old family secrets reveal themselves, "duck and cover" becomes the phrase of the day in her parents' barnyard. Next, her father, the local sheriff, needs help when his department fields an overwhelming number of missing persons reports. Through it all, DJ wrestles with desire, shame and confusion over the events in St. Paul.
How's a traumatized shapeshifter to cope? And protect her vulnerable family?
As a famous comic once said, "I started out as a child." But seriously, my life has been about books from the time I learned to read; after that, the world opened up. Animals have long held a fascination for me, I'm a proud and long-time cat slave, and I watch animal shows on TV whenever I can. Not surprisingly then, one of the first chapter books I ever read was called "The White Panther." I started writing poetry as early as 5th grade (and have done that and journaling throughout my life). That, fellow readers, is how life started me down the path to writing a supernatural/ romance/ thriller series entitled "Midwestern Shapeshifter." I'm a midwestern girl from waaaaay back: born and raised in central Iowa (Marshalltown); my family visited northern Missouri a lot to see my maternal grandparents on their farm. and I stayed with my sis and her husband in rural Illinois when they were first married. Marriage and husband's career took me to Nebraska, where we lived in Hastings before the divorce and afterward in Blue Hill, Blair/Fort Calhoun, near the Omaha area after (where I got my black belt in tae kwon do). Then I made a career change from teaching English to business education when I moved to Minnesota and got my Master's in Education. I've been a corporate writer and trainer in the twin cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul for a few decades now. But when my creativity needed a bigger and more consistent outlet over ten years ago, I started writing my own stories. So I've been writing for almost as long as I've been a book addict. At least, I'm somewhat consistent...er, at least consistently inconsistent... :D
She's returned home to her parents, lost her fiance and house battling vampires, and dodged offers to join either the FBI or an international paranormal policing agency. However, instead of being allowed to grieve in peace DJ Jesserey finds herself once more in a battle against the forces of evil. Her father, the local sheriff, is receiving a disturbing number of missing person reports, so DJ goes on the hunt and discovers a ruthless group of rogue shape-shifters. Forced back into action before she's ready, under the compulsion of her first moon mating, and once again defending unsuspecting humans from paranormal dangers, DJ Jesserey must succeed, or innocent people will die.
Vivid characters, quick pacing, excellent writing, and the occasionally hot sex scene will keep you turning pages late into the night. The second of author Deb Elliott's Midwestern Shapeshifter series, Bring It Home is easily also a stand alone novel.
Excellent read for a weekend. Grab yourself a copy and enjoy.
Awesome! This installment is just as great as the first. DJ goes home after her fiancee's funeral. She thought she would have some down time. Not going to happen. People are missing and she helps her father, the sheriff try to find out what's going on. Did a vampire follow her or is it something else. Then someone tries to shoot her. She wonders did she make a mistake coming home, and is she going to cause a family member to die. This is a must read if you love or like shifter paranormal.
