HEAT ALERT!
This story is super steamy. But it is NOT porn without plot.
Northcote always writes well-rounded, believable characters, and Dunan and Tyler are no exception.
Tyler, a hair stylist, is completely smitten with his new cop boyfriend, the masculine Duncan. Tyler is versatile, but Duncan is a strict top.
Or is he?
The book provided enough backstory (no info dumping) to make me care about the characters.
The sexy times were plentiful and delicious, very porny indeed but emotional too.
Tyler and Duncan move their relationship to the next level, and the ending is a strong HFN.
Top Me Maybe? is essentially the middle of Tyler and Duncan’s story. I would love to read the beginning (how they met) and the end (their HEA), but this is a short story after all.
Recommended for a quick, satisfying, (VERY) steamy read.

Yeah baby! One of my personal favorite kinky kinks comes out and says hello! My friends, this story is all about a beautiful butt virgin learning the joys of getting nailed. How I love it when a guy who is stereotypically "top"-looking decided to mix it up!
Sure, this story is only 33 pages, but it is 33 pages of HOT SEX, with some real emotion mixed in there to boot. Sure, I could have used more relationship development, but I'm damn pleased about what I got in such a short book.
And who can resist a big, burly policeman? One with, apparently, plentiful chest hair and who stands broad and strong at 6'3" tall. It takes a stronger woman than me to resist the lure of a man such as this. *growls*
Oh, and did I mention... BUTT VIRGIN?

A total winner! Fun, steamy, and very well written. Despite the shortness, the story has a pretty decent characterization and a strong focus on romance and emotions.

I've had this book on my TBR for quite a while. It took a special occasion (me in bed, sick with the flu) to finally pick it up.
I am so happy I did! Yes, as the blurb suggests, this story is about sex. Hair stylist Tyler is dating a seemingly perfect guy: Duncan is a muscled, hairy-chested cop who is out at work and looking for something permament. The sex is great too, with Duncan being a gentle giant kind of top who fulfils all of Tyler's bedroom fantasies.
It comes as a surprise for Tyler when Duncan reveals a bedroom fantasy of his own, though: He would like to be topped.
Tyler is determined to turn this fantasy into a beautiful and memorable reality.
And isn't that a glorious sight to see?
I absolutely loved Duncan.

The small bit of back story gives just enough information about their pasts to become more engaged in their characters.
The sexy bits in the story were pretty hot, but didn't really take it to the next level for me. They were nice, but didn't really set the room ablaze, IMHO.
But if you can get it for a good price, you might want to consider giving this short, feel-good read a try.

Well, wasn't this a saucy little nugget!
If there's anything I love, it's a first time bottom story.
Jay Northcote achieved a great balance of emotion and heat in this short novella. Tyler and Duncan were quite endearing. Their easygoing and caring relationship was the perfect balance of masculinity and vulnerability. You really got the sense that these were two people who were at that stage in a relationship where everything starts clicking into place and you begin to realize, "this could be something serious."
Typically I feel shortchanged when I pick up something so short, but I honestly feel rather satisfied after finishing this. Do I want more? HELL YES! I really liked Tyler and Duncan's relationship and I'd love to see where they go from here.

So good. Even a brief clean up scene got me going. I loved the intimacy it showed, especially in such a new relationship. And the hints of D/s elements...icing on the cake.
Another great thing about this short story? The genuine sweetness. Not sugary or over the top, just a gentle sweetness that made me smile. *sigh*
Steam and sweetness...a perfect combination. I didn't even feel cheated by the length of the story.
I'll be reading this again when I need a sweet pick me up :)

This wasn't exactly bad. It was well-edited, competent prose, and yet I was bored to distraction. Lots and lots of "gay sexing and smexing" (including rimming, and as usual I was, damn it, again just eating!), practically one long, long, looooooooooong and very unerotic sex scene.
Without real emotions, without any conflict, without anything which would make me care for the main characters. Funnily I found the hapless colleague Julian more interesting than either MC or their sexy antics.
This is really not for what I read erotica. Sorry. I want a connection. I don't want to read porn I could as well watch, and I don't want to wank. I want to have my brain muscles titillated...

Sometimes a shorty McShort story is just what you need.

When you get both, and it's not even PWP, it's just win, win, win!
It would have been so easy to turn this story into just that (Porn Without Plot) an encounter of high hotness - but about charcters we've not learnt to love yet. Jay Northcote doesn't do that though. She gives us characters to love and then ups the hotness factor. What a winning combination.
A recommended read for those times when you want something good to read but don't have the time for a full length novel.

Just what I needed today. This is a steamy little erotic romance that was fun to read and left a big ol' grin on my face.
Tyler and Duncan were good for each other and I enjoyed getting to know them. As is the case with a good short story I wanted more....but I didn't feel cheated when I was done.
Having read Helping Hand before reading this one my expectations were a little high. This one did not quite live up to my expectations but it was an enjoyable read.
Definitely an auto-buy author for me going forward.
