Rate this book
Sometimes the best-laid plans are the ones you never see coming.

If there is one thing Annie Dillinger has believed to be true, it’s that you can always go back home. But when an unexpected betrayal uproots her life, returning to her sleepy coastal hometown of Wellington Point, Connecticut, proves anything but peaceful. Ready to pick up the pieces and figure out what comes next, Annie hopes for quiet time to heal her wounds. Instead, she’s catapulted back into a town built upon perception, perfection, and unachievable societal standards upheld by the people who claim to love her the most—a place where she must decide if she’s ready to take a new path or stay stuck in a life that no longer fits.

If hyper-independence had a name, it would be Max Martin. Having long believed she can trust only herself, Max must balance the secret she’s been keeping with her desire to build a life entirely on her own terms. But when she meets a cute blonde—she has a type—Max finds the walls meant to keep other people out beginning to crumble. Unable to fight the magnetic pull drawing her to Annie, Max must face her toughest challenge Learning that sometimes chasing a dream means not having to carry it alone.

Rich emotional depth, sizzling chemistry, and found family are at the core of WASP—a touching sapphic romance about intentionality, taking leaps of faith, and facing the ultimate lowering defenses to let love in.

Cass Morgan is a contemporary sapphic romance author. Her stories embrace the quiet moments of connection, the messy in-betweens, and the kind of love that feels so magical it leaves you forever changed. When she’s not writing, you can usually find Cass creating in some way, curled up on the couch playing cozy video games or creating elaborate systems in brightly colored Post-it notes around the house. Cass lives in the Chicago area with her wife Alexa.

Annie comes from a wealthy family, with her entire life mapped out in front of her. First, she and her girlfriend of seven years are supposed to move in together, then get married, have children, and live happily ever after.

But everything changes quickly when Annie catches her girlfriend having sex with someone else.

Annie moves back to her hometown and into her parents’ house while she figures out what she wants to do with her life.

Max works at a golf course and a vineyard. Annie is a customer at both places, which sparks the beginning of a friendship. Annie’s parents aren’t thrilled about their friendship because, in their eyes, Max isn’t “good enough” since she’s “just” an ordinary working class woman. What they don’t know (and what Max doesn’t tell them) is that Max has inherited a vineyard and is saving up to get it up and running.

The attraction between Annie and Max is instant, but since Annie has only recently become single, they both agree that it will take Annie seven months to recover from a seven-year relationship. In the meantime, they build a friendship.

Respect and love are recurring themes throughout the book. Of course, there are ups and downs, but Cass Morgan writes in a way that leaves you never doubting the characters’ fundamental nature and who they truly are.

Wait, why is this called wasp? The only mention to wasp is that one of the characters is scared of them?

Anyways, I really enjoyed this. I feel like a lot of lesbian romance are either too ya or they’re always bisexual. Also, hetero authors just feel more advanced in writing style sometimes? Well, this book was incredible and def on par with many other great romance novels. I usually give romance 4 star, but plus half a star cause duh…lesbians <3 this is everything I want in my queer romances. Can’t wait to read more from this author.

Also!! I checked out the authors IG and they have some really cool videos making cover art and all kinds of things, check them out.
