Pharmacist Sam Delaney discovers that working the graveyard shift can be deadly when a dangerous patient from a local emergency room steps into his pharmacy and presents a questionable prescription. Concern turns to panic as Sam dials the police and is told that they will be delayed because of a storm and its inevitable fender benders. Sam has to stall for time and personally deal with the impatient perpetrator while trying to protect nurse Mary and an elderly insomniac, both of whom have their own plan of attack. Ultimately, the only victim turns out to be someone you’d least expect.
James has experience in both pharmaceutical manufacturing and clinical patient management. Medications and their impact on a patient’s quality of life has been his expertise. His secret passion of murder and mayhem, however, is a whole other matter. An obsession with reading murder mysteries and thrillers left him longing to weave such tales of his own. Drawing on past clinical expertise as a pharmacist and an infatuation with the lethal effects of drugs, James creates short stories and novels that will have you looking over your shoulder and suspicious of anything in your medicine cabinet.
Well, the story was decent, but the ending was weird.
I would've given it three stars, but the "About the Author and Some Important Acknowledgements" part, which comes BEFORE the story, completely gave away the climax of the story. And considering the climax wasn't all THAT climactic to begin with, the huge spoiler just killed it for me entirely.
