Salvage, the long-awaited follow up to Jon May’s first book, Divers, tells of his time with the truly extraordinary South China Sea Ocean Salvage And Towing Company, from dealing with the devastating consequences of a typhoon in the South China Sea, searching for missing explosives and going to the rescue of a shipwrecked crew, to hunting for lost pirate treasure, treating wounds from a shark attack and almost being lost at sea himself.
Salvage has the dry, dark humour of professionals facing tough, life changing decisions in the face of disaster and has a delicate balance of harsh reality and poignant reflection, giving further insight into the truly remarkable and adventurous lives of these men at sea.

I was born in the old Steelhouse Lane gun making quarter of Birmingham to a Welsh mother and Cornish father. The family moved back to Cornwall when I was three and I was educated at a local Public School .
I went up to the University of Hull in 1967 to read Life Sciences and met and married my wife there.
After graduating I held a variety of jobs, as Fisheries Biologist in the declining years of the Hull fishing industry, teaching in secure units for disturbed adolescents, and finally Diver medic first in the North Sea and then in distant water fields. 'Divers' grew out of my experiences when the oil Platform 'Piper Alpha' exploded and burned with the loss of one hundred and sixty seven lives . It remains the world's worst oil industry accident
I left the diving industry some years ago and retired to live in Cornwall
within sight of the ocean. My second book about the industry 'Salvage' has just been published by 6e publishing and is available on Kindle or as a paperback from Amazon
