She spent her high school years in Los Angeles where she used to write stories to amuse her classmates, including an epic novel called “The Beautiful Cassandra” based on a Jane Austen short story of the same name (and which later inspired her current pen name).
After college, Cassie lived in Los Angeles and New York where she worked at various entertainment magazines and even some rather suspect tabloids where she reported on Brad and Angelina’s world travels and Britney Spears’ wardrobe malfunctions. She started working on her YA novel, City of Bones, in 2004, inspired by the urban landscape of Manhattan, her favourite city. She turned to writing fantasy fiction full time in 2006 and hopes never to have to write about Paris Hilton again.
Cassie’s first professional writing sale was a short story called “The Girl’s Guide to Defeating the Dark Lord” in a Baen anthology of humor fantasy. Cassie hates working at home alone because she always gets distracted by reality TV shows and the antics of her cats, so she usually sets out to write in local coffee shops and restaurants. She likes to work in the company of her friends, who see that she sticks to her deadlines.

Maybe it was enough to be the first person to tell Alec that he was worth being seen ahead of anyone else in a room, and of being looked at longest. And silver, though few people knew it, was a rarer metal than gold."
First things first, I will never get over that quote. I will never stop thinking about how Magnus would have been okay with simply being the first person to show Alec that he was worth looking at first. Especially because we know where they go, where they end up, how absolutely beautiful their love story is. Knowing all of that, and knowing that Magnus would have been okay with this... it makes me want to cry.
He's the most wonderful man to have ever walked a fictional world. I strive to be more like him in everything I do.
Beyond that, I think the progression of this story is so special. A "bad" first date, which we find out is just miscommunication, becomes the stepping stone to a lifetime (she says softly under her breath so Cassie doesn't get any ideas on cutting it short) of beautiful memories and similar occurrences. Right from the start, from their very first moment standing together, their first instinct is to protect. And they never stop.
I can't imagine my life without Magnus Bane being front and center anymore.

This is an honest to god 5-star rating. I am just so very grateful that this series exists even though it consists of short-stories I still had the chance of getting inside Magnus' head and it's a place I'd very much like to stay in forever. He's wondrous, the way he thinks, the way Cassie writes his character and all of her characters, if I'm being completely truthful. I loved this, Magnus and Alec are favorites of mine (though, now that I think about it, there's no character of Cassie's that is not a favorite of mine) so I really rejoiced this chance at getting a glimpse inside of their relationship, again. Their first date was, how should I put it, perfect. It was not instant, it took its time and I think the real date started when their actual date ended. I love how these two interact and I love how they're not afraid of putting themselves out there.

Huh? I waited six months for this?
Magnus and Alec have a dreadful beginning of their date and Magnus regretted going out with Alec even more times than I regretted reading about it. Fortunately, Catarina saved them (and me) by putting an end to it. A werewolf emergency arose! Too bad Clare also sucks at writing fighting scenes.
So, Alec is special to Magnus because reasons and he broke the law, which was nice. Really? I mean come on, is that all? Seriously?

Magnus's breath caught in his throat.
That was apparently all the encouragement Alec needed. He leaned in, expression open and ardent in the darkness of the stairs, in the hush of the moment. Alec's mouth met Magnus's, soft and gentle. Getting his breath back was an impossibility, and no longer a priority.

Leaving Alec was the last thing he wanted to do right now. He pulled in Alec by the belt loops of his jeans, closed all distance between their bodies and caught Alec's tiny needful gasp with his mouth.
The kiss caught fire and all he could see behind his closed eyes were gold sparks; all he was aware of was Alec's mouth, Alec's strong gentle hands(...), Alec pressing him against the banister(...). Alec here, Alec now, the taste of Alec in his mouth, his hands pushing aside the fabric of his own worn T-shirt to get at Alec's bare skin underneath.

Alec kissed a sweet careful line down Magnus's neck, starting just below his ear to the hollow at the base of his throat.

Magnus's hands slid under Alec's rumpled shirt, learning the shape of Alec's body. He ran his fingers over the swell of Alec's shoulders and down the lean curve of his back, feeling the scars of his profession and the wildness of his kisses.

The plot was as rubbish as the title sounds, it was just Alec and Magnus going out on a date that ended up full of mishaps and cringe. I quite like reading scenes/extras of first dates or little never before seen moments between couples, they're usually fun and sweet, but this was the exact opposite — it was utterly boring and predictable.
-The attempt at humour was one of the worst aspects of the novella, the author was trying way too hard and none of it was funny.
-Magnus as usual was completely in love with himself, he thought he was better than everyone else, and generally came across as an unlikeable snob. I hated how he kept whining about other people being horrible, selfish dicks especially when he didn't realise he was one himself. The deluded, self-involved idiot still had no idea what a predatory, shallow, hypocritical douche he was.
-The very last sentence was Magnus stating that he didn't want Alec to break his heart — which to me possibly foreshadows Alec dying in CoHF as that would end up 'breaking' Magnus's heart. I hope that's not the case because if anyone should die it's Magnus, he's lived long enough, had plenty of adventures, and experienced many loves - Alec on the other hand has had very little anything in his life. I doubt that Magnus even loves Alec, he's just horny for him because he's young and likes the way he looks.
I'll be so pissed if Alec dies, not just because he's one of the few decent characters in the series but also because I don't want to read about Magnus whining when it's clear he'll easily move on from Alec and find love with the next handsome teenage boy he comes across. There's no way he'd be truly heartbroken, he'll probably only pretend so he can get sympathy and attention from everyone else.
I'm positive that Magnus will at some point end up flirting with one Jace/Clary/Isabelle's descendants in the future. Which is just creepy and weird, of course Magnus will think it's perfectly fine to flirt with his friends descendants. Ugh.
-Was this novella meant to show that Alec was somehow different to the many other people Magnus fell for or lusted after? It didn't. Alec was just the latest in a long line of loves for Magnus. And when he's dead, there'll be countless more like him and he'll just be a distant forgettable memory.
-The Bane novellas have just been chock full of Magnus banging on about how mean and racist Shadowhunters are and how hard done by he is. The thing is I didn't 'see' it for myself, all I was shown was a pathetic old man who still acts like a spoilt brat and complains every chance he gets. There was nothing good about Magnus that came out of the novellas. If anything his bitching just proved what a petty wanker he was - I ended up thinking Magnus was the one who was the racist prat, the Shadowhunters compared to him looked reasonable. Magnus should have stopped judging other people and looked at his own vile attitude.
All in all, an unremarkable and dull story that added nothing of relevance to the TMI series overall. The novellas just showed what a complete bastard Magnus was, he was tolerable when he wasn't a POV character but as a MC he was an insufferable, irredeemable, pissy, little git.

Oh lord, this was adorable. This story shows Magnus and Alec’s first date and it was pretty sweet. Again, I will say that it is incredibly not okay that a 300+ year old warlock is dating a seventeen-year-old, but if you take that away from the equation then it was a really sweet and realistic depiction of an awkward and messy first date. Well, besides going to bar and having to fight a werewolf together.

OMG I LOVE MALEC SO MUCH. If Cassie kills one of them in CoHF i'll never recover.
This chronicle was just too much for me! Malec is perfect and their first date was SO AWKWARD and funny! I teared up in some scenes because that's what Malec does to me! And OMG, I was fangirling so hard with the last bit of the chronicle, when they were in Magnus' apartment. PLEASE CASSIE, let them be together! DON'T KILL THEM IN COHF!
This short story made really happy! I don't know, it was as if I were reading a REALLY good fanfiction because this beautiful things only happen in fanfictions! But THIS WASN'T A FANFICTION! THIS WAS WRITTEN BY THE AUTHOR AND THAT MAKES ME DANCE WITH JOY. Definetly one of my favorite Chronicles, I'll reread it sometime in the future, that's for sure.

It’s been a minute since I’ve read one of the novella’s from Magnus Banes POV and I definitely missed seeing him. I really loved seeing his and Alec’s first date. They both are so similar and different at the same time and I absolutely love them together! I think that this was an eye opener for Alec so that he can see how Downworlder’s see the Shadowhunters and vice versa. I can’t wait to continue my reread of this universe!

MALEC FANS REJOICE CUZ WE OUT HERE WINNING!! (but not really once you get to the end and remember what happens in CoLS 😣)
This one follows Magnus and Alec’s first date, and it’s an absolute disaster! There’s a whole lot of funny moments that had me in stitches and smiling so hard until my cheeks hurt, although the ending kind of made me sad knowing what happens in City of Lost Souls. Still, I enjoyed every second of it. It was a great conclusion to The Bane Chronicles, and I’m incredibly glad I picked this up. Magnus was already one of my favorite characters in the Shadowhunter universe, but these stories gave me a deeper glimpse into who he is and made me fall in love with him even more. Thank you Cassie! <3

I was about to give this 4 stars because of too much change for the release date, but the events in this novella makes up for it.
That cursed chapter in CoLS makes this book hurt more. Malec knew (and hence the very title of this chronicle), but they just... :(

Honestly, same, after reading these novellas.
I feel like my review of What to Buy the Shadowhunter Who Has Everything made my opinion on this relationship quite clear.

На това му се вика първа среща! Да има от всичко и то по много: много смях, много неловки моменти, много любов и много... да е много горещо... Естествено чела съм и други забавни разкази или книги през годините, но не се бях смяла чак толкова от книгите на Тери Пратчет насам. Както и не вярвах, че Касандра Клеър може да пише подобни неща... особено края на разказа. Нямам думи с които да опиша колко много ми хареса и колко много обичам Магнус и Алек. Те са идеални поотделно, а пък заедно са просто невероятни! Обожавам връзката на Магнус и Алек... и тяхната първа среща. Много ми хареса и начинът по който Касандра Клеър успя да вмъкне лека битка, дори и тук... При положение, че самият Алек твърдеше, че „в момента не е на работа“.
