Jessie was always the adventure-seeking, thrill-chasing, wild kind of girl. She spent her younger years chasing after her older cousin and his friends, climbing mountains, and diving into crystal-clear mountain lakes.
Falling for Justin that summer was something she never saw coming.
Justin wasn’t just her cousin’s best friend; he was a connection she was helpless to resist. Countless romantic sunsets and nights spent beneath the stars only spurred their young love on, allowing it to blossom into something beautiful neither of them ever expected. What was only supposed to be a summer fling quickly became a love neither of them were willing to let go of.
Until one night changed everything.
Now, ten years later, Jessie and Justin find themselves living in the shadow of a whirlwind love that burned as bright as an Adirondack sunset and ended just as quickly. They coexist in the same small town of North Creek, where the community is close, but the ghosts of their past are closer.
When they attend their best friends’ wedding, they aren’t just celebrating the happy couple—they’re quickly reminded of everything that could have been.
When life continues to crash them together, they must decide if they can withstand the collision long enough to build something new, or if some things are better left in the past.
When The Mountains Remembered Us is an excellent follow-up sequel focusing on supporting characters established in the first book, When The Mountains Held Us. It surrounds Jessie Rhodes and Justin Hadley, two young friends who shared a whirlwind summer romance a decade prior, which ended badly.
Throughout the story, the reader finds out how the relationship played out as the author incorporates a multi-POV alternating time jump between "Then" and "Now". It gives a thorough backstory without being overexplanatory; we can read in "real time" how the relationship played out instead of just having a character in the present explain what happened in the past.
This story had me laughing, crying, and wanting to throw the tablet across the room all in the same sitting. I loved Justin's humor--something that immediately made me like him from the first book--and learning just how far his depth as a person went was satisfying to read. The heartbreak and sad events are wonderfully written and had me crying right along with the characters in some parts, while others frustrated me because I simply wanted to yell, "JUST TALK TO HIM/HER" (but that's how angst works, so great job on the author's part), as if the book had ears.
Overall, I loved this book. I think it is an awesome sequel to--what is now--a great series, and I can't wait to see where T.L. Albrecht takes us next!
I’m not going to lie, I was a little worried going into this book. Not because I ever doubted it was going to be amazing, but because I genuinely didn’t think anything could measure up to Levi and Oakley’s love story. Man, was I wrong!
In the beginning, I found myself getting excited every time I saw “NOW” at the beginning of a chapter because I knew it meant we were about to get another glimpse into the “THEN” ,the past, the history, and the love story of Jessie and Justin. That was a ride I was absolutely not prepared for, but one I was SO excited to jump on!
Justin is the perfect mix of sweet and passionate, with just the right amount of aggression and determination when it comes to going after what he wants. And he doesn’t give up easily. In one word? YUMMMMM. 🥵
Jessie’s black cat energy had me yelling at my phone like “You go girl!”… but also like pleaseee just give in.
The spice level in this book is perfectly spicy & delicious 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
“When the mountains remembered us” had me smiling, sobbing, and screaming at my Kindle. T.L. Albrecht absolutely NAILED this book and has me excited to read literally everything she writes from here on out!
I’m not overhyping this when I say this book is a MUST READ!
First, thank you so much for the ARC. I enjoyed When the Mountains Held Us and When the Mountains Remembered Us is the perfect follow up.
Jessie and Justin have known each other since they were kids as she is Levi’s cousin and he is Levi’s best friend from school. She was like the little sister tag along to most of the hangouts Levi and Justin had with just them or them and their friends. He always thought of her as that little kid until one summer. One summer that changed everything. They had their fun and then life changed in too many ways to fix it.
Through this book you go back to that summer and the day that everything changed. The push and pull they both have with wanting to open back up and again and not wanting to be hurt again was felt in the chapters.
Favorite Quote: Who says the thing that broke you can’t also be the thing that puts you back together again?
Jessie is a thrill-seeking, living-life-on-the-edge kind of gal. She was always after her cousin and his buddies, till one day she fell hard for her cousin's best friend, Justin. Ten years later, they find themselves back in the same small town, dealing with heartbreak and feelings they both need to overcome. Is revisiting their old feelings worth it?
I enjoyed this book. Jessie is a strong FMC who, while healing, still moves on and keeps herself in the real world. The author made this character feel real and dealt with things in a way that feels right. This was not a normal romance book that is predictable and feels like a copy of several romance books. This was well written and very enjoyable. I will also say this was spicier than I thought it would be.
She has done it again ladies and gents! Could not put this down and I felt so at home stepping back into the North Creek universe. These characters feel like my own personal friends and it was so special seeing another love story unfold.
Three things that stuck with me: 1) talking her thru it 🥵🌶️ 2) allowing the person you love to remain as independent as they want 3) best friends don’t tell you want to hear, they are honest with you at all aspects of life. That’s what true friends are.
Get this on your TBR people because it’s a romance you don’t want to miss!
Wow! What a great next instalment. I could not put this one down! I loved how the story was interwoven to show us the young lovers first love then back into the here and now. I cried, I laughed and I just thoroughly enjoyed reading this story! If you haven’t read the first book, then check out when the Mountains Held Us… you won’t be disappointed.. I cannot wait to see where T L Albrecht takes us
This is another fabulous entry in this series, the author really bringing the emotions along with banter and spice to create a wonderful story. She has a way with the character work that really makes for a heartfelt read that hits hard and delivers all the feels. This book, and series, is easy to recommend.
