Man, this was hella depressing, borderline nihilistic to be honest. The reality that someone can be surrounded by all the right people, try to really change for the better but that still won't be enough is quite perturbing. Sometimes the demons win, sometimes the pain from the past has an unruly grip that never loosens no matter how much time has passed.

Very different and interesting ending. Kind of loved it but at the same time, it's not even close to what Sono did.

A story about a boy who wanted to be normal, but ended up anything but that. I wish the story was fleshed out a bit more especially the ending, but nonetheless, I still felt it was a very compelling story about a boy struggling and ultimately losing against the hands of fate.

this was such a bummer. loved it though. very depressing and just felt very hopeless most of the time for me. sumida just wanted to be a normal, good person. the ending surprised me but i think we all know what was going to happen. very short and easy to get through series if you enjoy seinen

One of the best mangas I've ever read. Minoru Furuya is a genius when it comes to depict the hardships of ordinary people and the sad lives of unusual creatures and minorities.

An astronomically beautiful yet depressing manga and film, yet that might be why it expresses such beauty? What the Himizu manga and film does incredibly well, is it exemplifies what clinical depression looks like in such a brutal and realistic way. Moreover, this manga successfully portrays an brutal and gory representation of depression which contrasts against the majority of other forms of media that romanticises depression.

Potente.
Terrificante.
