Elfrida Goto, a Space Corps agent, is responsible for protecting vulnerable space colonists. But a ruthless conspiracy interferes, determined to use her for their own criminal purposes. Her career in ruins, Elfrida confronts the deadly forces threatening the solar system with nothing but courage, her sense of humor, a few good friends, and a sword ... that isn't even hers.

Trapped on a dying space station, stranded in the asteroid belt, and racing across the searing dayside of Mercury, the battle accelerates to a terrifying climax. Elfrida has one last chance to save humanity. But first she'll have to save herself.

Felix R. Savage

Felix R. Savage writes hard science fiction, space opera, and comedic science fiction. He has also occasionally been known to commit fantasy.

Felix has a long history associated with rebellion. He was born in the 1970s, a decade of American youth rebelling against the safe culture of their parents. He is married to a wonderful woman and they have two beautiful daughters. Together the four of them live in Tokyo serving their cat overlord and benevolent protector. Felix pounds the keyboard while not translating, delighting in his family, or catering to the whims of the family’s cat. He woke up one day to learn that he was a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, but he continues to keep a low profile, and never stops watching out for any sign the lizard people have found him.

So far, and without giving away spoilers, I have finished book 1 of the omnibus and stand at 3 stars. I felt as if there were times when information was missing and I had no real idea what was going on. It was almost as if the author were trying to make the story more complex than it was, and he missed the boat.

I will continue the review with book 2 when I complete that one in a few days. I am hoping it's better written than the first.

**********

So, just finished book 2 and it wasn't much better than book 1. Way too much exposition and almost all of the women were entirely too emotional. I am taking a break to read something else before diving into book 3.

*********

OK, I forced myself to push through and finish book 3. All I can say is I will probably not read anything by this author again. The protagonist was whiney, Cydney was a caricature of shallowness and ditz, Elfrida finding out the truth about Angelina Lin and then doing a complete 180 was not plausible to me and the ending was a bit deus ex machina. I am only giving three stars, but there really were some good bits, such as the Dougs and the author's ability to write really great descriptions of the settings. However, by the end, I truly didn't care about any of the characters and was halfway hoping Elfrida would bite it in the end.

UN-conventional space opera with phavatars and held together with splart!

Felix R Savage has created a believable world and populated it with interesting and quirky characters, along with a chilling AI threat that hangs over everyone and everything.

This is a world where space travel is commonplace but it’s still constrained by money and physics. It’s a world where rather that living on opulent terraformed worlds, humanity scrounges out an existence on asteroids and space stations. It’s gritty and realistic. It’s also hopeful and optimistic for a future where terraforming will become a reality and humans will move beyond the problems of today.

I originally read The Mercury Rebellion first and went back and read the first two installments, The Galapagos Incident and then The Vesta Conspiracy. Savage shows his readers a glimpse of this world he’s created in The Galapagos Incident. He introduces a number of ideas, the main characters and the AI threat. Ultimately, this first installment is a bit brief and really sets up the next two books. And this is where this series really begins to shine. The Vesta Conspiracy again focuses on asteroid life but deftly weaves in several other threads into the story along with more depth to the characters. The final book in the series is by far the best. In The Mercury Rebellion, Savage hits his stride, which may or may not have something to do with the fact that this is one takes place on a planet rather than an asteroid. The story weaves in a large number of threads to create a real page turning read. It will have you reaching for The Luna Deception, the next installment in the series, before you’ve even turned the last page.

Overall, this is a quality collection of space opera books. It will appeal to both those who enjoy hard science fiction and those that like character driven stories. Highly recommended.

I loved this trilogy. Elfrida Goto could be someone you know. But she is always in the wrong place at the wrong time.
She has some hair raising adventures just trying to do her job.
This is a Must Read book and I think most everyone who likes sci-fi/fantasy will enjoy it.

Fun and adventurous science fiction with a heroine who always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time but still seems to get through it. I love the little nods to Star Trek.
I received this free from the author for an honest review.
