I got an Epic subscription for my kids. I was excited to see Khoa Le's books on it as we loved Sun and Moon Sisters. However, this fell short. Unfortunately, I feel like this comes off incredibly "tough love" and suppressing your emotions is a good thing or else other people's discomfort is your fault. It comes off like feeling or crying isn't okay, ever.
Eh, I get the point (encourage kids not to throw tantrums about every little thing) but it could have been executed so much better. It comes off as "don't cry, ever".
Eh? "Throwing a tantrum only causes a flood of problems." That is what this book tells us. What problems did throwing a tantrum cause? Let's find out.
Throwing a tantrum did not result in getting the toy Billy wanted. Continuing to tantrum caused the house to flood with Billy's tearful tantrum... And Billy to float around on his bed in a literal sea of his own tears... Eventually Billy was swallowed whole and alive by his now enormous pet cat... Only to wake up safe and sound, and be hugged by his parents.
I see no problems here. Tantrums do not result in toys, which is NOT A PROBLEM. Tantrums do result in being swallowed alive by your cat. Yes, that's a first world issue right there. Let this be a lesson to you children! NO TANTRUMS or you will be hallucinatory cat food!
zero stars, they were all swallowed up by an enormous cat.
One review mentioned the awesome three dimensional cover on this book. I'm sure that is what prompted it being published, not the actual ridiculous content.
I borrowed this book from the library and am glad I pre-read it before reading it to my sons. The messaging is that you shouldn’t cry because your parents will not comfort you and love you if you do. You’re a good boy if you don’t have tantrums. Tantrums are developmentally normal and parents should help their children self regulate rather than leaving them to their own devices.
