Jammer Davis #3

Passenger 19

Rate this book

Jammer Davis has spent most of his life investigating aircraft accidents. When a small regional jet disappears over the jungles of Colombia, it is a tragedy like dozens of others he has seen…but for one terrible detail—his young daughter, who was enroute to a semester abroad in South America, is listed on the passenger manifest.

A distraught Davis rushes to Bogotá and bulls his way into the inquiry. When the wreckage is located, it becomes clear the crash was unsurvivable. As the investigation gains momentum, the facts go astray. Two pilots had been shot before the crash, along with one passenger. The possibility of a hijacking looms large as the search begins to focus on two passengers who boarded the plane, yet their remains cannot be found.

Davis uncovers an even more sinister plot behind the entire disaster—one that goes to the highest levels of the United States government. But how could it possibly involve his daughter?

3.5*. Jammer Davis, an experienced crash investigator with the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board), was content and at ease while flying a J-3 Cub floatplane high over the lakes of Lunga Reservoir in Virginia. Landing on the tranquil lake he manoeuvred the floatplane towards the dock where his friend Larry Green head of the NTSB was anxiously waiting to inform Davis that a small regional jet carrying his 19 year old daughter Jen has disappeared in the jungles of Colombia. Davis not wanting to believe the plane may have crashed in the mountains with no survivors, hangs on to the belief that Jen could be alive waiting for him to rescue her. Green reluctantly assigns Davis to locate the missing plane and search for any survivors, although they are well aware the odds were not favourable. Passenger 19 provides a significant amount of interesting and fascinating detail on investigating a crash site, along with exciting action and some hair-raising scenes until its final conclusion.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers and the author Ward Larsen for an ARC book.

The first thing I asked myself, was this my type of book, would I like a book about a aircraft investigator ! Well now I can tell you, yes this is my type of book, fast paced, tension filled, action packed and full of suspence.

This is more that just a aircraft investigator story, so much more, an author that I recommend in fact I have bought Fly By Night another Jammer Davis story, as well as A Perfect Assassin.

This book builds to a great conclusion, gripping and full of twists and nasty characters.

A great read and a clear four star book for me.

Wow, this was definitely an edge of your seat read. It started off just a little slow, but it when that freight train got started, it was express all the way. My left leg was in hyper motion shaking up and down while I was reading. The author was pure genius in the twists in this story. You see how the plane was after it was crashed and your thinking "what the heck happened?" Then, when you find out. It was awesome. Not sure if the author used post it notes to help him out, but if he did, that stock surely had to go up.

I don't think I breathed for the last 30 minutes of this book. I know when it was over, I wanted to jump up and high five some one or something. I just loved the ending.

If your into suspense, thrillers, kicka$$ action and endings you could never guess, this is the book for you. This has been sitting on my TBR list for weeks, I'm so glad I finally got around to it. It was definitely worth the wait.

An enormous thanks to Oceanview Publishing and Net Galley for responding to my request and providing me with this free e-galley in exchange for an honest review. I was thoroughly entertained!

I was drawn to the intriguing cover of this book. I used to have a strong fear of flying, and though I can fly now without losing my mind, I still find horror/thriller/action involving airplanes more anxiety-producing than any other locale. I hadn’t read something like that in awhile, so I decided to give this one a try. I have never read anything by this author before, but this book works as a stand-alone.

The good news is, this is a fast-paced thriller that kept me reading. Also, not that much of it actually happens on a plane . Jammer is an airline investigator whose daughter was on a plane that went down in Columbia, so he travels there to investigate and find her, since she was not listed among the victims. The investigation happens on the ground not 30,000 feet up, but you still get a sense of the vulnerability of all flights.

I love to travel to new places while reading, so one of my favorite things about the book was the Columbian jungle setting. The author does a great job of getting across the atmosphere, look and feel of the location. (And gave me a great nice spot for my armchair traveler challenge). The plot was a bit slow to get rolling, and the solution/political conspiracy was perhaps a wee bit OTT, but I can forgive that for a novel that’s a fast, fun read, and this one is that. The fact that Jammer was investigating what happened to his own daughter added a lot of emotion and frantic desperation to the search.

Recommended to fans of thrillers and not-fans of airplanes!

Passenger 19 is sadly the last full length Jammer Davis book by Ward Larsen. Jammer appears in a few of the David Slaton books and that is where I first met him and thought he sounds like an interesting guy. So now I have read all three of the books about him and I only have three more by Ward to read I will take a break and read somnething else and save Stealing Trinity, Cutting Edge and Assassin's Mark for later. I really had some fun reading about Jammer and his style of investigating aiplane crashes. He sure has his own way of dealing with things and people. I really wish that we will get more books about this great character since I actually like him more than Slaton. I will however recommend that you read both series by this great author.

Passenger 19 is a fast paced suspense novel in which an investigator for the NTSB has to fly to Columbia to conduct an investigation he has a very personal interest in.

Review - (un)Conventional Bookviews

I was immediately intrigued when I read the summary for Passenger 19, because a guy who is used to investigating airplane crashes has some pretty tough knowledge. However, when he knows that his only daughter - his only relative, really - was on board a plane that went missing over the jungle in Colombia, he has a whole other problem to deal with. His boss at the NTSB still wanted Jammer for the job, though, because he thought Jammer would have the best incentive ever to get to the bottom of what had happened with the small plane. As Jammer was flown to Colombia, things got strange very quickly, most of all because the private plane he was brought in wasn't there for anyone but him - no embassy documents or diplomat people, only Jammer.

Little by little, it became clear that not all was what it seemed with this particular crash, and Jammer had a hard time trusting his instinct. Because for once, he wasn't only an anonymous investigator, he had a vested interest, and he wanted to believe his daughter had somehow made it out alive. However, he had people working against him - even if he couldn't figure out exactly who these people were, and the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, eagerly clicking forward to read the next page on my kindle.

Both Jammer and the other characters in Passenger 19 were complex and well fleshed out, and while I needed a good dose of suspension of disbelief at the beginning of the story - I had trouble believing that Jammer would be sent to investigate a crash where his daughter might be one of the casualties - I quickly got so caught up in the mystery I didn't really care about that anymore. And I really enjoyed Jammer's courage, his inner musings, and the way his mind worked, not a single detail was forgotten, even if he didn't necessarily notice what was wrong when he first saw something.

With intricate politics, secret service, and the Colombian police on the case as well, Jammer had his plate full. Even more so when the Colombian chief investigator was found shot in his car in front of the headquarters for the investigation. Some incredible twists and turns made the story unfold with a lot of excitement, and as the full picture came into focus, I was left breathless with the implications of the whole plot.

Written in third person point of view, past tense, most of the story follows Jammer, but other characters are important as well, some of his former allies, some secret service agents, and a couple of DEA people stationed in Bogotà all made the plot more complex, while I, along with Jammer, never knew whom to trust.

Fave Quotes - (un)Conventional Bookviews

His gaze was intense, his mouth slightly parted, a man who knew what he had to say, but wasn't sure how to say it. In all the years he had know Green, Davis imagined he'd witnessed every mood an reaction in the general's catalogue. Never before had he seen indecision.

Now it was happening all over again. If he lost Jen, where would he turn? for so long it had been the two of them, and even with Jen in college they talked every day. One of them made the three-hour drive every other week. His daughter was precious, absolutely everything to him.

His last trip to Colombia had indeed been awkward. This one had the makings of a catastrophe.

Great Fast Paced Novel Ever read one of those books that grabs you from the first sentence? Well this one definitely did it for me. This is the third in the Jammer Davis stories and can be read as a stand alone. The premise? A plane crash in the middle of Columbia, Jammer's daughter was on that plane, as Jammer is an airline crash investigator, he is on the scene looking for his daughter and also what happened to the plane and why it crashed. His daughter is not among the victims and either is another girl that was a passenger.
Enter the corrupt government and political pawns and you have the makings of a great novel. I do love a good suspense story and this book is definitely that. Jammer will stop at nothing, and I mean nothing to find out what happened to his daughter and where she is. Multiple attempts on his life make him wonder just what has he gotten himself into.
Not only is this a page turner, you can definitely tell that the author knows his stuff, as a trained aircraft accident investigator himself, he incorporates what he knows into the story and it definitely works. I really enjoyed this fly by the seat of your pants novel and if you love a good thriller, you will like this one too!! I give it five stars, I loved it that much! Going to have hubby read this one also.
I received this book for review for my honest thoughts.

ARC for review from NetGalley.

While I applaud Target's decision to stop classifying toys as "boys" toys and "girls" toys, I must also admit that there are certain genres and authors that I categorize as "menslit" in a much nicer variation on "chicklit" - thank Tom Clancy or anything that involves any retired military personnel headed out on one last "op".

Welcome to Passenger 19.

First, you have to ask yourself if you can handle a book where the lead character's name is "Jammer." If not, you needn't read further. If you can bear it, the book is about Jammer Davis who, against all rules of ethics and common sense gets called in as a special NTSB consultant when a plane goes down in Colombia. The problem...his teenage daughter is a passenger and she's missing.

There are various twists and turns, and while Jammer does avoid doing a few things that would be unbelievably stupid ("reluctantly, Davis jettisoned the thought of keeping the Sig. With the investigation going to hell at flank speed, arming himself with stolen evidence could do nothing but create complications," he also, naturally, manages to get incredibly lucky.

Having read so little in the genre I'm not sure I'm qualified to say whether it's good or bad when compared with others of its ilk, so I've rated it solely on the amount I enjoyed it. See ya never, Jammer.

4.0 out of 5 stars -- Entertaining and fast-paced, this action adventure novel featuring Jammer Davis kept me guessing almost to the very end!

Jammer (Frank) Davis is an investigator for the NTSB. Ex military (Air Force and Marines) and a private pilot, he has the necessary experience to investigate the crash of a regional jet in Colombia. The situation is complicated by the fact that Jammer's daughter, Jen, was meant to be on that plane.

When he arrives in Bogota, Jammer and the other investigators are confounded by some irregularities in the flight and astounded by the dawning realization that this was not a typical plane crash. The local authorities are not as helpful as they could be and the language barrier is also a bit of a problem. What brought down this plane and what happened onboard? The clues point to a deviously plotted event.

Once I got past the character's name and got into the book, I really enjoyed the story. Of course it was a bit over-the-top stretching credulity due to Jammer's simply amazing talents, skills and abilities for a mere man, but I'd definitely read more books by Ward Larsen. Although this was the 3rd in the series, I had no feeling that I had missed something crucial to my understanding of this one by not having read the previous two. The author obviously knows planes and I definitely will check out his previous books featuring this character and any future novels he writes.

Thank you to NetGalley and Oceanview Publishing for the e-book ARC to review.

Regretfully this is the last Jammer Davis book. I was introduced to this character in the David Slaton series and truthfully l like this series better.

Jammer's boss greets him as he lands his new plane with the news that a plane has disappeared in Columbia and Jammer's daughter was on board.

This takes Jammer to Columbia to do an accident investigation for the NTSB while also holding out hope his daughter has somehow survived.

The last and IMO best book of the series.

Passenger 19: A Jammer Davis Thriller by Ward Larsen - Hijack Or Crash

Book Review - Passenger 19 A Jammer Davis Thriller by Ward Larsen

Passenger 19 by Ward Larsen is book 3 of 3 in the Jammer Davis Thriller series. The first in the series was Fly By Wire and second was Fly By Night. Jammer Davis is an expert investigator in aircraft accidents. A national aircraft vanishes over Colombia state. The tragedy is serious as the jet has disappeared in the dense jungles. For others, it could be just regular news. But for Davis, it is terribly shocking information because his younger daughter is one of the passengers in the list. The debris recovered proves it to be among the severest crashes. Chances are bleak that anyone could have been able to survive. The investigation reveals altogether different facts. It was not merely an accident. It was a well-planned hijacking. Three persons were shot just before the crash. Two among those were the pilots of the jet. Davis could not connect the threads about his daughter; hijacking and crash till his investigation reached a new level. He finds a deep-rooted conspiracy behind this disaster.

I liked the beginning. Right since you read the first line you are gripped and get ready to absorb that something serious is about to happen. The first paragraph, in fact, prepares you well for a disastrous crash that is going to happen. The story goes flawlessly in a natural manner. You are prepared to become part of it slowly and swiftly. Even the initial discussion between Larry Green (Davis’ ex-boss) and Davis gives a hint of maturity and expertise Davis carries in his job as an investigator. The ARJ-35 crashes in southern Colombia. It just vanished from the radar near the mountains and then it never reached the destination. The worst part is that Jennifer Davis was one of the passengers. Four hours of intense search leads to nothing. Understanding the gravity of the matter, Larry organizes everything fast to send Davis to the accident location. All these sequences make it a well-knitted story. A moment comes when Davis becomes hopeful of finding his daughter, unharmed and safe. I liked the role of technology in the story. When Colombian and the U.S. administrations denied helping Davis on the investigation, he is left with nothing but a drone and few associates. Larsen has been able to create a lot of suspense and curiosity in the story. Among the dead, two bodies are missing and one of them is Jennifer.

There is nothing that I could point out as disliked in the novel Passenger 19: A Jammer Davis Thriller by Ward Larsen. I would rate it as 5 on a scale of 5. The story is engaging, engrossing and thrilling. There is a lot to uncover as you go along the pages. The accident is not merely an accident. Who all are involved behind this will be interesting to reveal. Also, would be interesting to know if Jennifer survived.

A small jet crashes in Colombia and the American authority for the investigation of aviation accidents sends its own investigator in support of the local team, investigator who, against all logic, is the father of one of the alleged victims. This is enough to make people understand that this incident is something wrong, not least because the investigator's daughter body is not found, as well as that of another girl who looked a lot like her and occupied the seat next to her. Soon the investigator, who is heavily muscled, but has also a brain (I am a rugby player, says of himself to justify this incredible combination), is able to sense the true dynamics of events, despite his Colombian counterpart was killed by a gunshot and despite a threatening police major do everything to stick a wrench in the gears.
As the pages turn, the muscles of the American investigator and father are increasingly tested, up to the final battle, in the heart of the rain forest, in a pyrotechnic and Wagnerian crescendo.
Rather amusing novel, although the plot is a bit too transparent and despite some characters, like the father of the second disappeared girl, are free of thickness and seen too many times.
Thank Oceanview Publishing and Netgalley for giving me a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

After reading so many books in a row about psycho, insane, serial killers, (which I love those books !) I was in desperate need of something different. This is the 3rd in the Jammer Davis series- I have to say that I did attempt to read the first book- and TBH I was not crazy about it - (It very well could have just been my mood at the time) But, what I will say is while reading that book- I knew immediately that I would really like the main character in this series- Jammer Davis.

Jammer Davis is an aircraft accident inspector and consults with the NTSB, investigating airplane crashes. He gets a call about a small plane that crashed in Colombia, South America- but this accident is even more personal to him- his 19 year old daughter is listed as one of the passengers.

Jammer goes to Colombia to investigate the crash- and that is when we 'ride' along to find out what happened , and why and where is his daughter?

I really enjoyed the read- I will say it was a bit slow to start , but I stuck with it for the story and the characters I enjoyed. Being that I never really read the fist book- never even looked at the second book- this book is fine as a stand alone.

If you enjoy aviation (even if it is just a little) a good mystery of why did this plane crash and what the hell happened, then you will enjoy this read- I would love to see more of this series !

Jammer Davis is a retired USAF fighter pilot and a frequent consultant for the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). To say that he is headstrong as an investigator understates his unstoppable drive and preference for action. This quality is magnified in Ward Larsen's third thriller built around Jammer because the case Davis investigates—the crash of a two-engined passenger plane in Colombia—involves his daughter. Jammer's assignment to the case violates NTSB protocols, but it ratifies what would have happened anyway since no force n earth would have stopped him. Fortunately for the case, Jammer is every bit as smart as he is headstrong, and he needs both qualities. It becomes apparent early in the case that the crash was not the simple affair that the chief Colombian investigator and the Colombian police would prefer to present to the public. One examination of the wreck reveals complications that Jammer was trained to find, especially given his daughter's role as a passenger.

It would be possible to hit spoiler tripwires galore at this point, so I'll close by saying that the book is complex enough to reward reading time, and that it has a high action quotient without sacrificing intelligence.

This is a very fast paced thriller that grabbed me from the very first page and kept me engaged until the very last page. A phenomenal book that follows Jammer, a NTSB investigator and the father of a child on a crashed aircraft. He is sent to Colombia to investigate and seems to keep getting himself into trouble as he searches for the answer to what happened to his daughter.

The author is very knowledgeable about the subject and that information is woven into the story in a way that is easy for a layperson to understand. The Columbian jungle plays a key role in this thriller and I appreciated how the author was able to portray the jungle almost as a character in its own right.

While this is the first book I've read by this author, it will not be the last. I strongly recommend this novel to thriller fans - just make sure you start it early enough in the day or you will stay up half the night finishing it. Yes, it's that good. I have added the author to my must read authors' list.

Jammer Davis has spent most of his life investigating airline accidents .When a small
regional jet disappears over the jungles of Columbia it's like a lot of others he has seen except
for one thing his young daughter was en route to a semester abroad in South America.
And she is on the passenger manifest.
Davis rushes to Bogota and bulls his way into the inquiry. When the wreck is located it is
clear that there were no survivors. As the investigation gains momentum the pilots had been
shot before the crash along with one passenger. The possibility of a hijacking is now
possible. Also two passengers who boarded the plane cannot be found.
Davis also uncovers a more sinister plot. One that goes to the highest levels of the U. S.
Government. This is book three in the Jammer Davis series. It's a pretty good storyt and
I gave it a 4.

A Plane goes down in the Columbian jungle and an NTSB investigator is called to investigate. His daughter was on board so he is determined to find out what happened. What appeared to be a hijacking turns out to be something way more complicated than he could have guessed.

This is a fast paced complex thriller and a strong emotional experience as a man tries to save his daughter. I really enjoyed it

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

NTSB investigator and former pilot Jammer Davis is faced with the toughest assignment of his life when he is asked to investigate the disappearance of a passenger airliner over dense jungle in Colombia which was also carrying his daughter.

We follow widower Davis through the plot at breakneck speed as he rushes to Colombia to find his daughter and solve the mystery behind the crash.

If you liked the Taken movies you'll certainly enjoy this action-packed thriller. Jammer is a determined character who will stop at nothing to find his daughter.

He pushes and shoves his way through anything or anyone slowing down his search, and despite some of the scenes pushing my willing suspension of disbelief a little bit, it was a great read that I zoomed through really quickly.

A trained aircraft investigator himself, Larsen adds a lot of detail about the air crash investigation into this novel and also describes the jungle areas of Colombia in a lot of detail. This novel might also appeal to anyone who likes Tom Clancy's style novel of fact & fiction combined within a story.

This I really enjoyed - 4.5 stars. Jammer Davis is a different kind of protagonist. He consults on air crashes for the NTSB. He is sent to Columbia to investigate a missing commuter jet that has disappeared over rugged mountainous terrain with 21 passengers and 3 crew on board. This mission is, however, different for Jammer. His 19 year old daughter is on the passenger manifest.

When the downed jet is finally located there is a shocking discovery. They are two bodies short. His daughter, Jen, and another young female student are not among the dead. Further discoveries, the pilots have been shot and there is an unidentified extra man in the cockpit, lead to even more questions.

What is going on? And where is his daughter? Jammer pulls out all stops to find Jen and work out why the jet crashed. But it seems he is working at cross purposes to some of the Colombian authorities. This book has great characters and lots of action. I was only going to read this one Jammer Davis book because it caught my eye and some Goodreads buddies had rated it but now I might check out some more as I enjoyed this so much.

Exciting thriller based in Columbia

(I received the Kindle version of this book, free of charge, from Netgalley in return for an honest independent review.)

Jammer Davis is called to investigate the crash of a small plane in the Columbian jungle. He travels down to Bogotá, and quickly discovers that the crash was un-survivable - except two passengers are missing, one of whom is his daughter.

From a relatively slow start, as Larsen gives quite a bit of (interesting) detail about small planes and plane crashes, the plot speeds up with many twists and turns as it flies towards an exciting climax.

This is a thriller with substance, more than just an exciting story, and I (who have absolutely no interest in planes) really enjoyed it. As I write this I am already looking for my next Ward Larsen/Jammer Davis book!

This third book in the series is the first Jammer Davis mystery that I've read, and I'm happy to report that the transition into the story was effortless. No questions, no confusion. Davis is a good blend of logic and brute force, and both elements come into play in this story involving his young daughter.

I learned quite a bit about different kinds of aircraft and investigating crash sites, and everything was perfectly geared toward readers who don't have a clue about these things: light, to the point, and very interesting. There were even touches of humor throughout the book, which were needed in such a serious story.

Jammer Davis is a well-drawn character who will definitely make me come back to this series, especially since Passenger 19 also has an engrossing plot that really picks up speed once Davis has enough clues to begin piecing together what happened.

After enjoying this book, I think I'll take a look at the other Jammer Davis mysteries. Good stuff!

I would like to thank NetGalley and Oceanview Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest and open review.
Reading "the blurb", I thought this might be a book aimed at men. How wrong I was. This fast-paced action thriller will be enjoyed by everyone.
Jammer Davis investigates air crashes. He is distraught when he discovers his daughter's name on the passenger list.
The crash took place in Columbia, South America. The descriptions of the area made me feel as if I was there. I could "feel" the intense heat.
Ward Larsen's knowledge of the area and of South American bureaucracy shows the amount of research which went into this.
I didn't realise how many books Mr. Larsen had written. I'll certainly be adding his previous Jammer Davis books to my reading list.
I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys high-octane, adventure thrillers.

Actually a very solid 3.5. This was an easy, keep your attention read. Jammer Davis is sent to investigate a plane crash in Columbia. Nothing strange about that, it's what he does for a living. But he has never before investigated the crash of a plane on which his only child, Jen, was a passenger. Nothing about the crash is as it seems and the investigation gets more and more complicated. Tense situations didn't seem as tense as they should have been but I liked the characters and plot. Need to read the first two books in this series.

This was a great thriller with well developed characters and more than interesting plot. Jammer Davis is in Bogota, Columbia investigating a plane crash that occurred in the jungles. His daughter was on the plane so he is willing to do anything to find her. The author provides a good description of the investigation that occurs after an airplane crashes. This was an exciting roller coaster ride with several big twists and surprises. It was a hard book to put down.

A great page turner of a story, read it in 2 sittings. Held my interest all the way.
An exciting story of a plane crash in Bogota.
It emerges that it could have been a hijacking, but by who?
A wonderful murder mystery and an author I will read more of.
I was given a digital copy of this book by the publisher Ocean view Publications via Netgalley in return for an honest unbiased review.
