A writer from the South East of England, I grew up on the coast and have always had a love for it. I'm fascinated by the human mind and how criminals and mentally ill patients can be so vastly different not only from society as a whole, but from each other.

Through working in mental health, physical health and learning disabilities, as well as my own mental health issues (I have Borderline Personality Disorder and Asperger's Syndrome), I have gained a unique understanding of mental health, which I use to inform my writing.

Lady cannibal by Jessica Rhodes
I give this book 4.5 stars.

I was very intrigued by the title of this book so couldn't wait to get started on it .
Sarah Neville murdered her husband and told the police she ate him...she gets locked up for life in a facility called twin streams and never speaks about it again until she feels like she can finally tell her story to someone many years later, she finds that someone in her clinical psychologist Serena Raymond . Serena is shocked that after so many sessions with Sarah and feeling like she was banging her head against a brick wall she finally able to tell her the story she has been waiting so long to hear.

Unfortunately nothing with Sarah's case is simple so will Serena ever hear Sarah's story?
Working alongside Alexander who is Serena's boss they try to unravel Sarah's history and what may have happened to her by going through her case file and it's very interesting to find our that Serena has been there from the start, can they help Sarah and can Sarah ever escape Barnaby.
For me I enjoyed this book very much but at times it was upsetting for what the character went through and what she was dealing with then author has done a very good job with this as think there is enough for a sequel as I think Serena and Alexander will work on another case together.
I only rated 4.5 stars and not 5 as I really needed to hear more of Sarah's story from her PoV.

This is the story of Sarah, a battered wife who reached breaking point and has spent 17 years in a mental health facility as her punishment for not taking any more. Serena Raymond is the psychologist assigned to her case. I am struggling with this review as the start of the book was engaging, i liked the characters, i certainly wanted to know more about Sarah, especially as she was “ready to tell her story” to Dr Raymond. However it all sort of descended a bit into confusion and seemed to be struggling with which genre it really wanted to fit into. So, on the plus side we have a great idea for a story, all the characters are well formed with enough backstory to make us understand how they tick. The scenes where Sarah’s mental health deteriorates are genuinely harrowing at times and the brief snippets we get of her relationship with her husband, prior to his demise at her hands, actually make you feel like he deserved everything that was coming to him.

However, the story wasn’t structured well. Storylines started and then filtered off without conclusion, who was behind her transfer to another facility? Why didn’t we get to hear her story fully? Scenes were unbelievable, hours after falling from a fire escape and breaking both legs, ribs and a significant head injury a character was up and walking around their room and two characters were having a touching moment at the end of someone’s hospital bed. I also felt the author was trying to force in a romantic element which for me just stuck out badly and i felt a little in poor taste given the storyline and some of the harrowing things Sarah is experiencing at the same time.

I give this 2 stars but with some tying up of loose ends and some tidying of some confusing paragraph formatting this has the potential to be a fantastic story.
