Petra is trapped in the dark.
Her location is unknown, and all but silent except for the strange murmurings of her captors.
The enforced sensory deprivation confuses her perceptions, and she attempts to assemble a jigsaw made of pieces that may not even exist.
Using the limited - and unreliable - resources at her disposal, she strives to decipher not only where she is and how she is going to get out, but just who is responsible.
Angelo Marcos is a writer, actor and stand-up comedian, who for some reason refers to himself in the third person.
He writes psychological thrillers and crime fiction, often with a dash of humour thrown in for good measure.
Drawing on his background in law and psychology, he crafts memorable characters and suspenseful mysteries which shine a light on human behaviour and why people do what they do.
See? I told you he refers to himself in the third person...
Petra is being held captive, but it's impossible to tell where she is. Sometimes she can hear sounds and voices, and other times she feels as if she's in an isolation tank. All she can depend upon are her memories. Through reminiscing, her story begins to cohere, and where Petra really is was not on my list of guesses. A quick read, with a twist.
I received an e-copy of this short story from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I read this book in a couple of days, it's very addictive. I was really invested in the characters (including the cat!) and was routing for them throughout. I usually read crime but this was a welcome breather from the 'troubled but genius' detectives I am normally reading about and I was too immersed to miss them.
This was a free story from the authors website which I downloaded in kindle format (but you can get other formats I think).
Like the other reviewer I won't say that much so that I don't ruin anything but this is a very suspenseful story that kept me wondering all the way til the end!
I like the style that the author writes in so I really enjoyed this story!
