It is Rachael O'Brien's last year of college, but before classes begin her grandmother's stately home is burgled and a rare book of prophecies is defaced with a menacing message threatening the family.
Soon skeletons from the past are tumbling out of the closet implicating Rachael in a string of murders. When her psychic mother vanishes and a strange old key is delivered without a return address she is left to wonder if there's a link.
With forces from the past threatening, can Rachael rely on unlikely liaisons to escape an inherited vendetta in Paisley Ray's PRAISE THE LARD?
The Rachael O'Brien Chronicles are not your typical fiction. A young woman's plan for an art history degree turns into an outrageous series of misadventures in this laugh-out-loud romp about a girl who enrolls in a southern college during the height of the crazy era that was the 1980's. This collection crosses genres of chick lit, mystery, romance, humor, and action with the possibility of a corpse or two.
After reading the six preceding novels in this series, I couldn't wait to read this one. Good plotline, well developed characters, fun, suspenseful...Will there be more? I loved reading Rachel's adventure through college. Here's hoping we'll see what happens next!
Another great one in the series! So many longer series that I enjoy seem to go downhill after book 5 or so...but not Paisley Ray and Rachael O'Brien! Rachael is her usual trouble magnet and I wasn't able to guess the ending - always a treat! Can't wait for the next one!
Rachel finds herself in trouble, yet again, but, this time there are old questions answered. Can't wait to find out what is in-store for the new graduate, and exactly who, and what, Stone is.
I have come to enjoy most of these crazy characters throughout this series. With the exception of Bridget. I really thought that her being tied together with Betts was a little far reaching. I know she was painted a little crazy in the first book, but to bring her back and show her totally bat sh** crazy was a little off putting to me. I can't figure out why Rachel won't confide a little more in Agent Cauldwell. He is obviously on her side, so a little heads up before she puts herself in harm's way would seem prudent.
Praise the Lard is quite possibly the best book of the series so far. By book 7 you are expected to have a vague idea who the central characters are and their back stories, so there was much less back story in this book which I much preferred. A good little mystery that had me turning the pages, I would happily recommend to other readers, although I would recommend starting the series from the beginning. I'm looking forward to the next instalment of the Rachael O'Brien series.
The friendships that made the earlier books so fun now just seem forced. What happened to Travis? Why do Rachael's friends treat her like a little child? I keep saying if the tone of the stories don't improve, I'm done. College graduation seems like a good place to stop.
Once again, I really enjoyed this story. It was great to know that Raz was ultimately right about several things going on around her in her life. Well done Ms. Ray. Thank you for the enjoyable tale.
Love this story about young women and the predicament they find themselves in! These women would have been in college just before I was, so I can relate to them and the time in which the books are set.
Personable and eccentric characters terms a fun plot, and the fast paced readability makes this a great beach or jury duty read. This is a super series. However this one could be a stand alone movie.
Praise the Lard, the seventh of the Rachael O’Brien Chronicles, was one of the best in the series. It’s got loads of action interspersed with humor. I enjoyed it very much and recommend reading it (and the rest of the series, too).
Just finished Book 9 of the Paisley Ray series and was very disappointed to learn that the last book is not on the reading list. Any way I loved the series and couldn't wait to read the next one after I finished each book. Looking forward to seeing more from this author!
