When everyone around you becomes unreliable, even dangerous, can you trust a wild wolf? Nella Khron partakes in her first wolf cull for a pack of illegally bred wolfdogs. She fails to shoot and hand over the wolf to protect herself, forming an unexpected bond with the mother wolf, Silence, who escapes. Soon she realizes that the wolf's presence is connected to the murder of a fellow hunter and a criminal network terrorizing her hometown, and that her uncle, Roland, knows far more than he lets on. Ostracized by her family and community, Nella has no one but herself and the wolf to trust. But can she guarantee that Silence won't turn on her?

Firstly I would like to apologise to @jgreenlandauthor and @randomthingstours for the delay in posting this. It should have been up yesterday but unfortunately we were away and turns out the internet was awful and then I come home to find one of my rescue gang, Teddy, has sadly been knocked down and killed so only now getting around to this. So sorry both!! Anyway, on with the review... This book is such an incredibly impactful, poignant and beautiful page turner that I absolutely devoured it in one sitting. It truly has something for everyone. The storyline itself is packed with nature, wolves, crime, fantasy, wilderness, family, suspense, grit, atmosphere, drama, soul, murder, beauty, friendship, mythology and so much more!! From it's stunning cover to the very last word this book will suck you in and keep you hooked until the very end. Just make sure you clear your schedules as Josephine will NOT let you go until you have finished and even then this is a book that will stay rent free in your mind for a very long time. I know it will in my mind!! It is extremely well written and with Josephine's captivating, vivid, emotive and evocative writing skills you truly will see, feel and hear everything that is going on through the eyes of Nella. There are animal deaths in the book so please be aware of that. As an animal lover myself I cannot abide animal abuse, cruelty or hunting in any forms but, although heart-breaking at times, I still absolutely loved this incredibly powerful book so please do not let it put you off as you will miss out on a truly fantastic read!! I absolutely adored the brilliant quoted that Josephine started each chapter with and found them a beautiful addition to the book so thank you Josephine for including these! I love the fact that I have never come across anything like this story. I have read hundreds and hundreds of books and it is getting harder and harder to find something truly unique but Josephine has smashed it! Well done!
Overall a fantastically unique addictive crime thriller!
From hunting hybrid Wolves in a sanctioned wolf cull to a mystery involving murder, lies, illegal wolf breeding, drug gangs and a hidden wolf this has lots going on, yes the hunting was unnerving but the book was a gripping read. The descriptions of the woods and surrounding really brought the scenes to life from the tuffs of fur to the moss on stones, it was beautifully descriptive. It really kept me guessing as to what was happening and who was to blame there were lots of suspects. I loved the tales of folklore that were told along with the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. I couldn’t put it down.
