I just want to write a short, review with spoilers—to warn other readers about the level of toxicity in this story. I got baited by the 5-star reviews on NU and the yandere tags, but unfortunately, this ML is the kind of yandere I absolutely hate.

ML manipulates MC into a situation where he gets seriously hurt and gang r*ped, leaving him with a permanent scar on his face. I was clutching my pearls in disbelief. That scene had me so upset. 😭 I mean, I’m pretty open-minded when it comes to dark romance, I can handle morally gray characters but this was just straight up bulls**t. The way the family handled the situation was a joke. The only reason I kept reading was pure curiosity, to see if the author would actually try to redeem ML.

As much as I love reading about obsessive love, I cannot get past what ML did. no amount of wealth and power could make me overlook that. And honestly, The writing wasn’t even strong enough to convince me of their so-called love for each other. Did I miss a few chapters of romance development? Because it sure wasn’t making any sense to me.

Also, this is not a crematorium danmei. There’s no character development, no redemption arc. Where was the groveling? And the all the non con was ridiculous. Even when MC tries to have sex with someone else, it still turns into r*pe? I mean, I don’t want to kink-shame, but do we ever get to see MC in a consensual scene? Or is that too much to ask these days?

Sorry if I’m being too negative, but there was nothing about this story that gave me satisfaction. Even the revenge arc fell flat. I skipped the extras because I had zero interest in this couple by the end.

Rating: 2.5/5- very disappointing. A beautifully created MC just becomes a worthless dim wit by the end.

This had incredible potential but the gang r*pe which should have been the defining moment for how the ML and MC progress, did not hold much value to the dynamic between them and destroyed this plot.

That was the pivotal moment in the story and yet it was downplayed and forgotten and it ruined all realism about tragic love. Eventually I felt that these two were not suited at all and should probably never be together.

There was no love because no person in this universe will plan your gang r*pe and say that they still love you- then you in turn say all is well and love them back?

Huh...

Like that is a mental illness that needs to be treated if such behaviour is characterised as love and can be so easily forgiven.

The MC was pretty much an idiot and scum for using an innocent person as cannon fodder for his own selfishness. His character was also very poorly written with this arrogant and intelligent character, starting off in the beginning chapters and then ending into some unrecognisable weakling thereafter. The trauma was not well written into the plot and the time lapses were not appropriate to forge ahead with the couple being together.

Sometimes really messy plots can work out well, this was not the case.

This was really interesting because it was less a wife chasing crematorium and more a slow but sure net created by the ML cutting off all escape routes for the MC. There was a lot of emotional suffering on both sides but not much groveling from the ML. I still enjoyed it though!

Summary: MC is in Hong Kong for a visit and stays with the wealthy Rong family who is in the midst of the battle of succession. MC likes the quiet elder brother, the ML, and decides to use his family connections to help him. The younger brother finds out and gets revenge on the MC by gang raping him and cutting his face, disfiguring him. He's rescued by the ML but then finds out the ML was never as gentle as he seemed and had been manipulating him into helping him the whole time and even the rape was a direct result of his calculations. The ML pretends to let the MC go only to ruin his family's business and force him to his side. The MC finds someone to help him escape and from then on they try to hurt and scheme against each other despite still loving each other.

This novel presents an ugly side of love. Yujiang is very obsessed with Sheng and does everything for him, even manipulating him.

Poor Shu Ting though, he died just because of his love for Sheng.

This book proves that my taste in books can be bad sometimes. A lot of readers didn't like this book. I liked it. I read it only once and in one sitting few years ago, yet I remember almost everything about it, even the stiff translation. The ending was somewhat not amazing, it was rather boring--depends on what 'boring' means for you--this is why I don't rate it more than 3 stars.
