What fuels the conflict? There are powerful cultural and spiritual forces that explain… •Why Palestinians reject peace offers •Why radical Muslims attach Israel’s supporters, especially Americans •The role of Christians in unfolding world events •Why, if Islam is a religion of peace, Muslims kill Jews in the name of Allah, their god Why the Quran calls Jews “the children of monkeys and pigs” “I didn’t just do research about Islam; I lived if for thirty-four years!” -Mark Gabriel
“Dr. Gabriels transformation from devout Muslim is a powerful reminder of how love can indeed conquer hate. His bold change of heart prompts him to bless the Jewish people rather than curse and hate them.” -Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein
“Islam and the Jews reveals the secret agenda that is not being told by the media. I wish U.S. government officials would read this book.” -Sid Roth, President, Messianic Vision
Dr. Mark Gabriel was born and raised in Egypt in an Islamic family. By the age of 12, Dr. Gabriel had the entire Quran memorized. He graduated from Al-Azhar University in Cairo and then became a professor of Islamic history at that university. He also served as the Imam (spiritual leader) of a mosque in Giza, where the pyramids are located.
In short, Dr. Gabriel was a highly prestigious figure in the Islamic world when one day he dared to question the authenticity of the Quran. That evening he was kidnapped by the Egyptian secret police and thrown in prison where he was tortured unmercifully for days due to questioning his religion. Miraculously, just as he was about to be executed, he was delivered from the prison by a relative with political connections.
During the next year while unemployed and living with his parents, Dr. Gabriel met a Christian pharmacist who gave him a Bible. That Bible led him to Jesus, and when he read the Sermon on the Mount, he decided to accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior. When his father discovered that Mark had become a Christian, he tried to kill him. Running for his life, Dr. Gabriel fled to South Africa where assassins were sent to kill him. Finally he fled to the United States where he was granted religious asylum.
Today Dr. Mark Gabriel is a Christian evangelist. He is also spreading the truth about Islam. He is the author of several books, including a best-seller entitled Islam and Terrorism. He has been asked by powerful governments as an adviser. He also travels the world to speak in churches, conferences and teaching in bible schools on many different topics such as, the Christian perspective on Islam, how to reach Muslems for Christ, Middle East affairs, world religions, end of time according to Islam and Christianity and the role of women in Islam and Christianity.
Mark Gabriel is not the author's original name. He has not chosen to reveal his original name, both because of possible repercussions to his family in Egypt, and also because of his definite break with his former life. Gabriel was born in Egypt, had memorized the Qur'an by age twelve, and studied at Al-Azhar University in Cairo. Unfortunately, he expressed a doubt about Islam, and was fired by the university and questioned by the secret police. This started a turn of events that led to Gabriel fleeing Egypt and becoming a Christian. He attempted to make contact with the Coptic Christians of Egypt, but they turned him away for fear that he was a spy. It remains a crime under Shari'a law to seek converts from Islam, so the Copts' fears are understandable. He traveled to South Africa, and from there to America.
The brunt of this book is to explain the anti-Semitism he feels is pervasive in Islam. His personal hatred of Jews began with Egypt's humiliation in the Six Day War, but was fed by the popular anti-Semitic suras in the Qur'an, such as sura 5:60, "those (Jews) who incurred the Curse of Allah and His Wrath, and those of whom (some) He transformed into monkeys and swine."
Lest this seem to be proof-texting, Gabriel devotes a section of the book to Quranic interpretation. It is perfectly true that the Qur'an contains passages praising the Jews as well as condemning them. The keys to understanding the Qur'an are the doctrine of abrogation, and the hadith. Taking the latter first, the hadith are the words and deeds of Muhammad, as passed down by tradition. There are six compilations of these, with al-Bukhari's the most authoritative in the Sunni world. These compilations purport to trace the sayings directly back to Muhammad, from whence they derive their authority. Thus the historical record is particularly important, since it provides the warrant for using the hadith as a guide to daily life. The doctrine of abrogation is the method by which Islamic scholars reconcile apparently contradictory statements in the Qur'an, which being the Word of Allah, is by definition free from error. The method by which this is done is later verses abrogate earlier verses. Thus an early statement praising the Jews, such as sura 2:47, "O Children of Israel! Remember My Favour which I bestowed upon you and I preferred you to the 'Alamin [mankind and djinn (of your time period, in the past)].", is abrogated by a later one, such as sura 5:78 "Those among the Children of Israel who disbelieved were cursed by the tongue of Dawud (David) and Isa(Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary). That was because they disobeyed (Allah and his messengers) and were ever transgressing beyond bounds."
Thus again, history is very important because the temporal sequence of the suras is critical to their interpretation. The suras are organized according to length, so knowing which is earlier and which is later is the object of much study. Gabriel provides background on the early history of Islam to explain why the peaceful verses are considered earlier, and thus abrogated by the later verses of the sword. A pivotal event was the point at which the Jews of Arabia began to mock Muhammad, and he turned on them with vengeance. This history is part of the cultural environment in which Gabriel grew up, and thus he continued to hate Jews even after he became a Christian.
In addition to this historical and theological perspective, this book is one man's personal contrition for hatred, as he explains how he came to shed his anti-Semitism. This casts a personal light on the otherwise grand, impersonal narratives that Gabriel uses to explain the enmity he felt for Jews.
Overall, an interesting book, although occasionally challenging due to the the author's non-native English syntax. This limits the book simply because the author cannot express subtleties well. This book is brutally honest, and as such probably not the best work for dialogue. Should be taken as evidence only of the interpretation of Islam that Gabriel studied at al-Azhar University, but valuable for that.
Just fascinating! I've never read the Quran and this book cites many verses. The author was an Islamic scholar and professor in his homeland, Egypt. He explains the roots of the division between Judaism and Islam. If you watch news coverage about events in the middle east and scratch your head wondering why, this book can teach you a lot.
Interesting. This book will help you understand the intense hatred behind the Jew and Islam conflict and it is religious conflict that will not be satisfied with politics!! Must read!!
This author appears to be of major concern. If we follow his story he was apparently an Imam at a Mosque, then a master student at Al-Azhar University & then a lecturer at the same university. He graduated in 1990 after presenting his thesis
He was then apparently sacked from both positions after he became a Christian and received death threats from Muslims for changing his religion. It is alleged he then changed his name from his original Arabic name to his current name so that he can escape the death threats and protect his family.
Gabriel has gone on to write a large number of books about Islam and some of these has his photo on the books.
Wait on ....... If you are hiding away from people who want you dead why do you lead such a large profile life?
The reality here if we consider this story is that there are a number of facts that surround this guys story. How many people might there be who went to a university at a particluar time, wrote a masters thesis of a known title in a known year, went on to become a lecturer at the same university, was ocncurrently an Imam at a known mosque, became a Christian and then was sacked from both positions for his change of faith? We should expect there might only be one person who fits the bill on all of these but in reality there is likely no one who does at all.
I read recently that people researching Gabriels credentials ahve visited both the University and the Mosque and no one knows him by the name of Mark Gabriel. Gabriel counters this argument with the position that he had to change his name for fear of Islamic reprisals so none of these organisations would know of him under this name. Remember we have already discussed about just how hard it is to hide from those wishing you harm when you change your name but then go public on every other detail of your life.
Gabriels claim falls flat to the ground when we consider that his photo has also been taken around to both the University and the Mosque and no one recognises him at all.
Who is he? Well no one seems to know who this expert is! As for his Islamic knowledge we should be very careful as none of the mainstream Islamic scholars actually agrees with him and his views on what Muslims believe in regards to Jihad and Infidels. These views he espouses are way off the mark with accepted Islamic knowledge which is very surprising given he was an Imam and a university lecturer and claims authority to speak on behalf of Islam.
Given the method he has chosen to hide away from the alleged Muslim murders who seek his blood is no method of hiding at all ie he clearly publishes his photo and his exploits as an academic and a religious leader I have suggested to Mark by email that he gives us his name so we can check the voracity of his claim. Sadly ladies and gentlemen Mark has not responded to my email yet. We all need to be very careful about what this author and other like his write as it appears to be authoritive but on closer examination appears to be lies. If you really want to understand Muslims find some and start up a friendship.
As he did in one of his other book (Islam and Terrorism: What the Qur'an really teaches about Christianity, violence and the goals of the Islamic jihad), Mark Gabriel expose with consistence his view on Islam regarding Jews. It's a excellent book for those who wants to understand the Muslim beliefs on Jews and on the land of Palestine.
If you are not a Muslim and are wanting to know more about Islam this book is a GREAT starting point. Well researched and written by Gabriel - a man that was raised a Muslim and is now a Christian. This book was informative and interesting for me. I highly recommend it!
I was surprised that I read this in just two days. The book provides a thought-provoking exploration of the relationship between Islam and Judaism. Drawing on his background as a former Islamic scholar, the author offers an analysis of historical conflicts, religious ideologies, and challenges that define interactions between Muslims and Jews. The book looks into the roots of animosity and presents an examination of the current state of this relationship. the author's unique perspective, coupled with his personal journey from Islamic scholar to Christian, enriches the narrative, making it an insightful and valuable resource for those seeking a deeper understanding of the ongoing dynamics between Islam and Judaism.
