Dragonlord: An Asher & Avandriell Story

Rate this book
The war is over. Peace has returned to Verda.

Five years after the fall of the Leviathan, the realms of men prosper, trade flourishes across seas once thought impassable and old wounds have begun to fade.

Asher, however, has little interest in peace. Nor does he have the time for it.

An old friend has come to him, seeking not only the ranger's aid but the knowledge of an Arakesh, for the shadows of Nightfall have been stirred, a threat to all under the banner of the flaming sword.

Who would dare enter those ancient halls?

Who would risk the nightmares that yet cling to its cold stone?

Asher and Avandriell cannot abide the thought of anyone plundering Nightfall's secrets-'tis a hell that must remain sealed against the light.

Together, and in good company, they must fly south, into an ocean of sand, where The Arid Lands have endured. What awaits them there is but the beginning, a first step in a journey neither ranger nor dragon expected to take.

A journey from which there can be no turning back.

Along the way, they will face savage creatures, long-lost secrets and memories that refuse to stay buried.

Some doors, however, were sealed not to keep the world out... but to keep something in.

Another excellent entry, always great to see some of the old favourites from Echoes. I really want to catch up with Reyna and Nathaniel at some point, I always loved them as characters. I am really enjoying A Time of Dragons and can't wait for the final book, but man, if Quaintrell is teasing another series with Asher and the gang I am 100% in. Please do it.

This novella has been highly anticipated for a while. Getting to go back to Illian and Erador and hang out with our favorite ranger and his dragon is always a pleasure. As always, Phillip writes action so well and this starts off with a super fun and crazy fight. Asher is an absolute boss with a blade. The way that Phil has started to blend the sides of the world is fantastic. Blending A Time of Dragons, and Echoes Saga seamlessly and in such a way that I get goose bumps when something else is revealed. There was a training montage which usually I’m not a big fan of but it feels totally different when you’ve spent countless hours and every emotion possible with a character. I found myself fully engaged in it and loving the montage in this scenario. The love that has developed for these characters and this world continues to grow through these novellas. The ending of this novella was so good yet so very infuriating! You’ll find out why. I absolutely loved this story in the world of Verda and can’t wait until the next.

Another fantastic entry into Verda.

Once again, Philip crushes it; I cannot begin to recommend every book within the world of Verda this author has written. My only complaint is that I read this novella in a day, though he hinted, with a grain of salt, at maybe MAYBE adding another series to the world continuing into the future, which I would love.

I love going back to Verda. But going back to Verda with Asher is just perfect. This one was a bit different, not what we usually get from Asher but still awesome. Hope for more Ava tho. That ending was cruel but it means we get more so I am all for it.

Another fantastic (short) story from Philip. Even though this is a short story compared to all the other books, his writing still draws you in and keeps turning the page.
