I loved this collection. The stories are fresh and innovative, and cover the whole spectrum from pure horror to suspenseful thrillers, with many a twist and turn along the way. There are a number of pure gems, and as a set they engrossed me right to the last page. Well done Mr. Pilgrim! I'm looking forward very much to your future work.
A highly entertaining collection of horror tales with a twist. A young woman thinks she is going crazy when she sees something from the corner of her eye. A man tries to have his wife bumped off, but things don't go to plan. These are some well written, well developed tales that were great fun to read. I would definitely recommend this book.
Great collection of short stories. You won't want to put it down until the end. It has suspense and Horror. I would recommend to anyone who likes like horror or suspense.
I received this book as a giveaway through LibraryThing. This is a collection thanks of short stories that are all about perception, or things that might be there. It's really quite good! I'm not usually a fan of short stories but this one sounded interesting and it definitely is. The stories are just the right length to pull you in, set the stage and then let your imagination wander! Well written, creepy and fun!
This book is a collection for horror short stories. I think it was a fun read for me. I feel like there were many twists and turns in this book. * I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*
A collection of short horror stories by an author that is new to me. I have to say I'm not a fan of short stories as I like to get involved with the characters and stay with them for a while.
It doesn't matter to me whether a book is well written or not its the content thst holds my interest. If a story is badly written but has me on the edge of my seat then I'll read it. The stories that I did read were ok. They did remind me of episodes from The Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits.
I have to confess I haven't read all of them but I enjoyed Dinner Date but didnt like the second story which was for me just oral sex !
Not been a fan of short stories what I did read was ok. Not sure though if I would seek out this author again.
Firstly I need to say that this isn't a horror novel at all. It contains drama and suspense but not horror. Think more Twilight Zone rather than Stephen King and you will have a better idea of the style of the book. Overall I quite liked this novel. The different stories were engaging and interesting. Some I found better than others of course but that is often the case with collection of short stories I find. There is a connective thread through a number of the different stories which I found intriguing and something that kept you going through the book.
A collection of short horror stories, both the supernatural and human kind.
I really had to think about what I thought of this book and my reaction to it. Normally I prefer purely supernatural horror, probably because the human variety is just to real, and I have to admit I had to skip the very end of two stories since I found them more disturbing than I was comfortable with, and based on this I guess I have to say the book was very effective. All and all though there were more than enough stories with both human horror and supernatural horror that I my preference for the supernatural was well satisfied. While the writing was not revolutionary it was strong and very engaging and with the exception of the two stories I had to skip through I found myself very eager to keep reading and I ended up finishing the book in about two days.
One thing the author did that I especially liked was how the first story in the collection had a few sequels spaced throughout the book, that was a nice touch and I think it worked better than if they had been put together in one story.
Overall I found the stories more disturbing than scary but there was a definite undercurrent of eerie and weird that I really appreciated.
This book of collection of horror short stories is a fun read but nothing more. The quality of the stories are mixed but it's usually the case with short story collections. The bigger issue is the lack of originality. Reading most of the stories I had a feeling that I'm watching a mediocre Twilight Zone episode. You can find one or maybe two good ideas but I think it's not enough.
