In Book #4 of the Hot Winter Sun Series, Beautiful and clever Adele Westbrook grows up in one of Cornwall, England's finest homes, only to become an enigma to her family and friends. Weary of people who can't understand her unconventional ways and odd perspectives, she ultimately abandons thoughts of marriage and children, finding solace in her own private world.
Content with her unique, if non-traditional life, Adele is caught off guard when fate brings a mysterious visitor to her father's home. In one dramatic moment, she recognizes a kindred spirit in Andrew Sheffield, the Earl of Ashbourne, but quickly realizes he is not what he seems. A renowned Jacobite leader, Andrew is there to discover if the Westbrooks are loyal to King George or secret supporters of the exiled James Stuart.
As religious and political conflicts rage through England, unsettling rumors about Andrew's past reach Adele's ears, and she learns that his life is shrouded in secrets as dark and dangerous as the Jacobites themselves. Refusing to give him up, she pushes the rumors from her mind, and the two pledge their lives to each other. Andrew leaves England then, to eventually fight in the infamous Battle of Culloden. Back in Cornwall, Adele faces sudden danger at the hands of an unknown, sadistic foe, and potential accusations of treason. She must draw on her extraordinary inner strength to overcome one challenge after another while fervently praying for Andrew's safe return.
Jessica Russell is the pen name of Jesse Broadt (last name rhymes with "coat") a professional web content writer who specializes in travel. She is the Author of the Hot Winter Sun Series.
Passionate about history, the author is an avid reader of both historical fiction and non-fiction history books. Throughout her life, she was inspired by authors such as Victoria Holt, Phyllis A. Whitney and Belva Plain, and strives to create the same type of multi-dimensional, entertaining characters that readers can relate to, understand and ultimately enjoy. Broadt created her first novel-length work of fiction with Hot Winter Sun, and laughingly calls it the kind of book you think no one writes anymore .
A professional singer at one time, the author often refers to words as music of another kind and hopes they are felt that way by her readers. Broadt lives in the Southeastern United States with her husband and childhood sweetheart, Dan, as well as Frosty and Snoodle, her faithful, purring companions. She loves music, reading, traveling and simply enjoying the sights and sounds of nature, and also has a blog for travel enthusiasts, called Your Endless Holiday.
This was another winner by Ms. Russell. I have been a fan since the very first book, "Hot Winter Sun," which I know has won several contests over the last 5 years. I thought nothing could top it and then Cold Summer Wind and Warm Autumn Rain came along and I realized this was just a talented author, pure and simple. She knows how to weave a mystery and add a perfect romance subplot so that every sentence, literally, keeps you engaged. The way the history is woven in naturally is nothing less than amazing. She has LONG been my favorite author in this genre. If you like historical fiction or romantic suspense you will 100% love this book!
This was exactly what I have come to expect with this author! Outstanding character development and a plot that drives you along and sucks you in from moment one. Her mysteries are as unusual as her titles and there is always a simmering subplot that is almost as intriguing as the main mystery. The romance part, as always, is oh-so-satisfying.
