When a body is found in the Hollow, Cait and Cody join forces to track down a killer only to; find that the body in the hollow is only the first of many victims. A Whales and Tails cozy mystery series is set on Madrona Island, a fictional island within the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington State. As a fourth generation islander Caitlin Hart is struggling to make her way as the economy and culture of the island evolves toward a tourism based industry. Cait lives in a cabin on her aunt's oceanfront estate where she helps her aunt run Harthaven Cat Sanctuary. When she isn't working with the cats, she helps best friend Tara, operate the coffee bar/bookstore/cat lounge they own, named Coffee Cat Books.
Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home. Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

Coffee Cat Books is doing well as a coffee bar, bookstore, and adoptable cat lounge all-in-one. One of Madrona Island's most disliked townspeople meets their fate in the hollow in the center of the island; surrounded by the feral cat population he despised. Unfortunately, Cait is the one who finds him as she follows a mystical cat, Ichabod, her newest feline guide, on her quest for answers to the latest island murder. Suddenly, dead bodies are turning up left and right, and Cait, her boyfriend, Cody; her best friend, Tara, Deputy Finn; and her sister, Siobhan; all put their heads together to figure out why, and who, is intent on killing so many people on the small island. The answers will surprise you! Fast-paced mystery. Love this series!

Review:
Cait has been instructed to visit the hollow on Madrona Island where a unique cat will be waiting for her. When she arrives, she finds Ichabod, a big black cat. After following Ichabod further into the hollow, she finds a dead body at the bottom of a ravine. Before Cait and her friends can get to the bottom of this death, more bodies turn up and the gang realizes there is a murderer among the Island citizens.
The characters are well developed, well rounded and three dimensional. They feel like friends that I have known for a long time and I have a vested interest in them. It is always so great to catch up on their lives and see what is happening with them all: which relationships are blossoming, wilting or rekindling, which businesses are being successful and which are not. In this book we get to read more about Cait’s sister, Siobhan, and get to know her better. The author is so talented in creating characters that are so lifelike and captivating. To me the characters are what make this series, and all of her series, so great.
The mystery is carried on throughout the entire book. There are many twists and turns that make it very difficult to figure out the murderer before the identity is revealed. The bodies keep piling up and the clues that are gathered are not adding up. There is also a mystery revolving around one of Cait’s family member, but I do not want to reveal who or what. I enjoy the fact that there is more than one mystery to solve, which gives the reader more of a chance to play super sleuth.
I also enjoy the fact that in each of the books in this series a magical mystical cat helps solve the mystery. I like this paranormal aspect and enjoy seeing how the cats will be involved. Their actions are intertwined with the mystery and they help lead Cait to find the answers she is looking for.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy with characters that are relatable and likable. Do yourself a favor and pick up this book, the entire series if you have not read it yet, and sit back and enjoy. You cannot go wrong with any of Kathi Daley’s books.
This is Kathi Daley’s fifth book in the awesome Whales and Tails Mystery series and I think it’s the best one so far. There are more twists, turns, and romance than usual. While all the hints and clues were given, I must admit I was at a total loss trying to figure out who and why until the final reveal. Ms. Daley writes tightly woven plots with integrated subplots and introduces well-developed, complex characters. This is an ideal cozy mystery. It’s fun to read, clean with no bad language, graphic violence, or sex. There is a little gentle and warm romance. Although this book is part of a series, Ms. Daley has provided sufficient character background so it can be read as a standalone.
While Cait is out at the “haunted” hollow checking on the feral cats, she discovers the mayor’s body. Since he hated the cats and wanted to rid the island of them, it seems a strange place for him to have visited and Cait believes foul play lead to his demise. Ichabod is the special cat sent to help Cait find murder victims, clues, and perpetrators. Before long, Cait discovers the body of a council member who appears to have drowned; but that’s strange too because he was deathly afraid of the water. Cait is thrilled when Siobhan, her older sister, makes an unannounced visit to the island; however is dismayed to learn of Siobhan’s problems. Siobhan joins in the investigation and creates a helpful murder board. Before all is said and done, there are four murders … could it be a serial killer? Everyone believes Aunt Maggie is at a yoga retreat, but Cait learns that the retreat was held two weeks ago and, given the death of two council members, begins to worry something awful has happened to her.
Wow, Kathi has done it again. I absolutely loved this book. I don't know how she does it but I feel like every book in this series just keeps me on the edge of my seat. These adventures are so much fun to read and the characters just keep growing and evolving on Mandrona Island. This adventure starts in the hollow. The hollow is a haunted place legend has it where many strange things have happened. Not only is a place full of feral cats but now it is the site of a murder. I bet you can guess who is drawn there, yep, Cait. She is told by Tansy that she is to meet her messenger at the hollow. This is where she meets "Ichabod"a black cat with glowing green eyes. This is the beginning of a great adventure. Cait needs to find out if there is one killer or multiple killers on the island. Who would have thought that their little island would be the backdrop for murder. With the help of Cody, Cait's boyfriend, and her friends and family and an unexpected visit from her big sister Siobhan they begin to unravel secrets on the island that will lead to a killer. But, who will be the next victim? Will the group find enough clues before one of them becomes number two? I have loved all of these characters throughout this series. Things have been changing and a lot of twists and turns have occurred on the island. There are a lot of surprises in this book that you will love. I know I did and can't wait for the next installment in the Whales and Tales mysteries. If you are looking for a great mystery, romance, and unexpected endings you will love this book as well as all of Kathi Daley books.
I don’t know how Kathi Daley does it, but whichever book of hers I have just finished, it is always my new favorite. They just keep getting better. The story of Tabby Hollow set a mysterious mood from the beginning and I couldn’t stop reading to see who her “messenger” would be and where he would lead her.
The Legend of Tabby Hollow had everything I love in a great cozy mystery: interesting characters that keep on growing, a romance that is developing nicely, and a mystery that kept me guessing right up to the end.
I really enjoyed getting to know more about Cait’s older sister, Siobhan, who has come back home to get her life back on track. Destiny, the teenager that Cait and her best friend Tara have taken in, fits in perfectly working at their store, Coffee Cat Books. The decision that Destiny is struggling with is such a difficult one and I anxiously wait for her decision.
The cats that come to help Cait are such important characters in the stories and I especially enjoyed Ichabod.
At the end of the book I was surprised by the identity of the killer and the announcement of who the new mayor would be. I was so sad to see Ichabod leave, but what a perfect ending to the book (I needed a tissue).
This is another spectacular mystery in the series...quite possibly the best one so far. I had no idea who had committed the murder or why until it was revealed. There were so many twists in the plot--even more than usual.
As usual, Cait is working with a cat who leads her to clues in the case. This time around, it's a big black cat named Ichabod. On their first meeting, he leads her straight to the dead body of the mayor. Unfortunately for everyone, that's not the only body to turn up on the island.
I love the characters in this series. They are a very tight-knit group of friends, and their interactions are so life-like that you feel as if you know them. In this story, we finally meet Cait's older sister, Siobhan, and learn about her history on the island, as well as about her time away. I enjoyed her character, and hope we'll get to see more of her.
One of the great things about this author is that, even though she writes several different series, you can read all of them without feeling as though you're reading the same plots over and over. Each series has its own unique themes, and its own unique voice.
The latest cat in Caitlin's life is Ichabod, a black cat, that leads her into the Hollow and to the dead body of Mayor Brady. The Hollow is a rocky area in the center of the island that is uninhabited except for a colony of feral cats. Islanders consider the area haunted and avoid it and it was highly unusual that the mayor's body would have been there considering this and the fact that he hated cats. While looking into how the Mayor died, Ichabod leads Caitlin to more bodies, and as she and her friends search for a link between them, she once again finds herself in danger. This story brings in a new character to the series, as her older sister, Siobhan, returns to the island after losing her job on the mainland. Will this make things more awkward for the friends, considering the previously broken engagement between her and Finn? I enjoy this series, and each story brings along further insight and development into the main characters as well as some unique twists in the mystery angle. I look forward to the next book in this series. Disclosure: I was provided with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
On Madrona Island there is an area where people say that is haunted. Cait once again stumbles across another body near her aunt’s cat sanctuary. This time it is the mayor and the location seems off since he did not like cats. Was it suicide or was he murder?
But when another council body is found and a black poker chip is found on and around the bodies, could this be a serial killer in the making? While researching both victims they shared money problems and a prospect of selling timber from Tabby Hollow.
Meantime Cait’s oldest sister shows up on the island jobless and apartment less. Her older sister reconnects with Cait and her former fiancé Finn as well.
During the investigation Cody and Cait’s relationship moves up a notch as they confess their love for each other. But once again she will find herself in danger; will he be able to rescue her in time? Will her older sister find a way back to her ex fiancé? Who knows what the future will bring the Hart sisters?
I really enjoyed this book. Ms. Daley has a way with characters that draws you in, you feel like you are sitting there with them. This book seems to have a serial killer on the loose and Cait and friends are trying to figure it out. That is the other thing I love about Ms. Daley's books, all the characters contribute, Cait is the main force in the search for answers but all the friends contribute with info found. I love that there is no obnoxious going into peoples faces demanding answers, things are quietly researched and discussed. I also get a kick out of the fact that each book a new cat appears to help nudge Cait in the right direction, and the fact that she just takes it all in stride I find highly amusing. The mystery was good and had me guessing but all questions were answered, well except for a minor one which I have a feeling that will come up in the next book. I will definitely continue on with this series.
The Legend of Tabby Hollow ( Whales and Tails Mystery) ( Volume 5 ) By: Kathi Daley
The Legend of Tabby Hollow is the fifth book in Whales and Tails Series. I really enjoyed this book . I love the story and the characters. Kathi Daley did not disappoint me. She has penned another book filled with mysteries , action, and romance. I love that I could not guess who did it till the end. I was hooked right from the start and was not let go tilt the end. When I started reading I I did not want to put it down till I had finished it. The story starts off with Caitlin finding a dead body . Has the person been murdered or was it an accident? Why was the person in this particular place? Cait is sent another cat , Ichabad, to help her solve the mysteries. Cait, Cody, and friends all have their hands full with everything that is going on. Ms, Daley has given us more than one mystery to solve, so get ready for lots of action, mysteries, and yes some romance.
The Legend of Tabby Hollow is the 5th book in the Whales and Tails Series. In this installment, Cait and Cody's relationship has new developments and Cait's older sister Siobhan returns home from Seattle. We learn about why Siobhan left for Seattle and why she has returned. The cat helping Cait this time is Ichabod. Ichabod seems to be a smarter than average cat and there is a very touching scene at the end of the book involving Icaabod. Maggie is away- but where as it turns out she did not go where she said she was going and at one point, there were concerns that Maggie might either be a murder suspect or a murder victim. Perhaps we will find out in the next book where Maggie was hiding.
This was a fast paced and enjoyable read with a twisting plot. I highly recommend this book.
I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Kathi doesn't disappoint, The Legend of Tabby Hollow is another terrific read!!! I take great delight in this series, it has become a favorite. With each new book Kathi gives you a more in depth view of the characters and their relationships with one another. The introduction of each new cat keeps the storyline fresh as well as entertaining you. They each have their own charms, but it looks like Ichabod is my new favorite. I'm really fond of Caitlin, and I'm loving the adventure that she is taking me on. I look forward to the next installment!!!
I don't think I have ever read a Kathi Daley book I didn't love! This story takes place on Madrona Island. The hollow, a mystical place in the center of this island, is inhabited by lots of feral cats. Cait watches out for the cats and when she runs across any that needs help, she takes them home with her to the Harthaven Cat Sanctuary until they are well. Some of these cats are very mysterious and help Cait to solve mysteries on the island. I won't tell you about Ichabod. I will let you find out for yourself. Cait and the gang are in full force in this exciting tale.
A Wonderful Truly Cozy Mystrery! Kathi Daley is not only a really good writer, she just has a knack for making you feel good! I love this book (as well as all of her other books). It is a well written, fun cozy, and slightly romantic mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end. If you like books that intrigue you, then leave you with a warm and fuzzy, happy feeling, I highly recommend this book!
Another great book by Kathi Daly. The characters were so!id and easy to identify with. The setting is on the Madrona Island near Seattle. The Legend of TabbyHollow didn't disappoint.
This mystery novel was fair. There were several instances where the story didn’t flow into the next paragraph within the chapter and some of the wording was awkward.
Initially, I could not figure out how old Cait was supposed to be, given that her thinking seemed to lean toward the juvenile, but she has a job and a boyfriend with whom she eventually does “you know what” (that’s how their intimate desires are described in this book), so I concluded probably early 20s. That said, she’s nearly always late or leaving early from work, so I’ll take that job please.
The cat, Ichabod, leads her to find multiple dead bodies, none of which seems strange, even to the police. Halloween isn’t really the backdrop to the story, other than a stint at a school where Cait plays a zombie (naturally a really cute one) and a mention of the town’s holiday celebration.
Then there’s the kicker, she figures out who the murderer is and despite the same policeman following up on her every call in every instance and being a love interest to her older sister, Cait doesn’t bother to call him before going to confront said murderer. That’s just plain dumb. The basement where she’s held up, despite being a BDSM playroom, contains zero weapons or items with which she might defend herself, conveniently allowing her to be rescued by her man. Gag me with a spoon.
And where was Maggie while she was away? What did Destiny decide about her baby? I guess you’re supposed to read the next book in the series to find out.

Kindle Unlimited liked it but didn't love it hence 4 stars. Wasn't anything stupid such as typos or anything like that, just didn't love this.

A Whales and Tails cozy mystery series is set on Madrona Island, a fictional island within the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington State. Cait lives in a cabin on her aunt's oceanfront estate where she helps her aunt run Harthaven Cat Sanctuary. I absolutely loved this book the characters were great! The setting was brilliant! I loved the Suspense part of the book. I love how this all turn out
When Cait and her physic cat visitor first find the dead body of the mayor and later the body of another city council member, it looks like someone is killing off the local council members. Cait fears that her beloved Aunt Maggie might be next, as she is also on the council. With the help of family, friends and the strange cat, Cait goes to work finding the killer and the motive. Another page turner in this endearing and entertaining series that will keep you guessing all the way to the final confrontation.
I’m melting at this awesome and very sweet ending! Eye leakage is definitely possible there! As for the rest of the story, it was a super good mystery and I quickly remembered why I loved this series so much from the camaraderie of Cait and her friends working on a mystery to the closeness of family and her special friends. And of course there’s always lovable pets and a cat sent by Tansy. I sure hadn’t guessed whodunit and in a tense showdown, I wasn’t sure what Cait was planning to do to stay alive.
The author kept up the high entertainment standards that she has set in her previous books. The murders kept you wondering why they were killed. They seemed to be connected, but everyone one the island is connected in some way. Then there were so many red herrings thrown in that I was almost ready to throw my hands up in defeat. I do love a deliciously complicated murder. And, of course, the actual bad guy was not anyone I had guessed. A really enjoyable Halloween book.
Town council members are being murdered. Ichabod the cat arrives to assist Cait to solve the murders. I really enjoy this series. Cait is a great character. I like the plot and characters in this story. I like the cats. I also like finding out more about the history of the island. There are surprises in the plot . I recommend this fir readers who like animal cozy mysteries.
I decided to read some books with a Halloween them. I made this my read on the exercise book choice. It was a quick little cozy mystery. I have to confess I didn't figure out who did it before the author let me know. The story is a little far fetch with a cat that communicates to you but I guess I am too down to earth. The cast of characters are old friends who work together to solve the crime. Not a bad little read. I don't know if I liked it enough to read the whole series.
Love these Kathi Daley books! This one takes place around Halloween and the main character is Ichabod, a wonderful black cat. Murder a plenty is taking place, but who is responsible and why? Cait teams up with her friends and sister Siobhan who has come back to the island to figure everything out. Ichabod lends a paw when needed to help the group along. Great fun.
Caits older sister arrives unexpectedly and helps set up a murder board for the investigation into the three murders. Since Maggie is away her sister stays at Maggies. Cody and Cait's friendship take the nect step. Unlikely suspect is found along with answers. Good book. Enjoy.
Another best mystery with Caitlin and her crew and of course a cat. I always love the storylines, the interesting characters and the island setting. I recommend this book and series to cozy lovers.
The Legend of Tabby Hollow, by Kathi Daley is a great story. There are twisting storylines, humor, romance, and of course, a good dose of Halloween to put us in the spirit of the holiday! Surprising murderer that I never considered too! Must read.
This is a nice, clean read, with a wiser-than-usual black cat named Ichabod, a woman who runs a cat cafe (that also sells books) named Cait, and a small island with a cast of characters that seem interesting, and several murders that require sleuthing. There are also a few recipes at the end!
This is a terrific series! They are clean reads, great mystery and wonderful characters with a little bit of witchy influence. They are also a quick read, great for the summer. I absolutely love the CATS! I won't explain that...you just need to start reading!
