Religion comes calling at the Paul Zacher Agency when long-dead teen movie star Claudia Arango makes an unexpected comeback as México’s newest saint. To avoid becoming a laughingstock, the City of San Miguel hires Paul to get her reburied without publicity. But with the Vatican pushing on one side, and big money pulling on the other, Paul, Maya, and Cody may be overmatched. When the bullets start flying it’s hard to know who to bury next in this, the thirteenth of the Murder in Mexico mystery series.
John Scherber, a Minnesota native, settled in México in 2007. He is the author of 15 Paul Zacher mysteries, (The Murder in México series), set in the old colonial hill town of San Miguel de Allende, as well as his three award-winning nonfiction accounts of the expatriate experience, San Miguel de Allende: A Place in the Heart, Into the Heart of Mexico: Expatriates Find Themselves Off the Beaten Path, and Living in San Miguel: The Heart of the Matter. In addition, two volumes of the Townshend Vampire Trilogy have appeared, and a paranormal thriller titled The Devil’s Workshop. His work is known for its fast pace, irreverent humor, and light-hearted excursions into the worlds of art and antiques––always with an edge of suspense. Neither highbrow nor lowbrow, his books are written as entertainments and dedicated to the enjoyment of reading. While he has acknowledged being no single one of his characters, he also admits to being all of them.
I slowly worked through the excellent story line. I very much enjoyed John's characters and how he described their feelings and emotions. Having lived in San Miguel I felt at home. If you have spent time in Mexico, this book will bring back memories of the joys of life in Mexico.
A father’s last request, a burial with his daughter causing tension between the two brothers To rebury his sister without any fan fare The other want’s her to be a saint, for people to come visit the site They hire the agency, Paul to mediate and find a solution Things turn ugly to almost killing him, and murder Good plot and the insite of what Paul is thinking.
This is the first of the series that I've read. Very interesting plot with good, albeit predictable, plot twists. I liked the characters and the fact that all - good and bad - had human qualities.
