The devotion to the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ and particularly to His Holy Face is one of the oldest in the Christian tradition. This venerable devotion was practiced by such great saints, such as St. Augustine of Hippo, St. Bernard of Clairvaux, St. Gertrude the Great, St. Mechtilde, St. Edmund, St. Bonaventure and St. Therese of Lisieux.Beginning in 1844, Our Lord appeared to Sr. Mary of St. Peter and expressed His desire that world should know and practice this devotion in reparation for man's blasphemy. Through the efforts of Sr. Mary St. Peter, Ven. Leo DuPont and countless others, this devotion has become one of the most loved, and remains one of the most needed in our time.
A handy book to have, around the house, in your car, purse or pocket, wherever you are. It explains the merits derived from meditating on the Holy Face of Jesus, Christ's countenance which represents His Divinity as His Sacred Heart does His Humanity: 1) cleansing us of our sins; 2) strengthening us against temptation; 3) leading us to perfection before death; 4) giving us the assurance of a happy death and, 5) insuring us glory in Heaven.
We also read about the chosen souls who have especially venerated the Holy Face throughout History: Sts. Augustine, Bernard, Gertrude the Great and Mechtilde and how each have added to the sum total of knowledge of the devotion.
This book was rather beautiful and charming, and I enjoyed it greatly. My only complaint is it quoted a heretical priest without informing you who he was. Besides that its great!
----------------------------------------- An excellent read as an introduction to a beautiful devotion. Great ideas for devotions (especially adoring the Holy Face in the Holy Eucharist). To be read along with the more detailed booklet on devotion to the Holy Face by John Vennari (which connects the devotion to Fatima's theme of consoling Our Lord).
🖊 This is a remarkably excellent prayer book which brings to light the profound graces obtained through meditating on the Holy Face of Jesus, including the sacred expressions that reflects His Divinity just as His Sacred Heart reveals His Humanity. Within these pages are the promises granted to those who embrace this devotion, along with rich meditations, powerful prayers, and a compelling exploration of its transformative impact on us sinners.
