He's more than she bargained for...

As far as Declan Waterford is concerned, women are off limits-at least until he can earn enough money for his brother's surgery. The dueling piano gig at Vegas's Masquerade hotel barely pays enough...but if Declan can convince his boss to promote him, he'll be set. And the Senior VP of the hotel's gorgeous daughter might just be the "in" Declan needs.

Between drowning in mistakes at her editorial internship and fighting off her father's demands that she relocate to Vegas and join his hotel empire, Melody Sumner doesn't have time for love-or one-night stands with sexy Irish piano players-no matter how appetizing Declan is. But even though she knows he's only interested in her for one reason, the intense chemistry between them has her thinking dangerous thoughts...

This was a sweet, sexy, and slightly angsty romance. I had a really hard time getting into this story but it eventually picked up and I did enjoy it. Declan is a sexy Irish musician who moves to Las Vegas to make some money to pay for something important to him. Melody is an intern for an editor and she is in Las Vegas, staying at her dads hotel while at a romance writers convention. She's been messing up at her job and has no confidence in herself because of her dyslexia. There were a couple positive things I liked about this book such as how hot the sexy scenes were but I also had a few small issues such as how long it took me to get into the story and I really didn't feel much connection to the characters. Overall, I think this was a sweet romance and look forward to reading more by this author.

All Melody Sumner has ever wanted to do is get into publishing as she has loved books ever since she first discovered her mother's stash of romances. The thing though is that Melody is dyslexic and her words and writing skills are poor and often come out in a muddle e.g instead of spaghetti and meatballs we read it as she calls it basgetti and meatballs. Melody has been invited to Vegas for a Romance Writers convention and a way to rub shoulders with agents, publicists - the best thing for her career , that is if she doesn't stuff it up and so far she isn't doing too well. The thing though is that Melody does have a career to fall back on, but it's not one that she wants to be a part of, as her father owns the Masquerade Hotel in Las Vegas where coincidentally is where the convention is being held. At the hotel, she meets Declan Waterford who is working in a band to help raise funds for his older brother Brendan's surgery back in Ireland after a tragic accident. The thing is though that Declan is a tad uncouth and doing so, isn't getting him any closer to his goal. Enter Melody , she's hot and wants Piano lessons and Declan is willing to give it to her, if she passes on a good word to her Dad and gets him the coveted gig in the VIP lounge. As the pair get closer, we notice chemistry but can a good girl and bad boy work out ? Can they both fulfill their dreams and goals or will one of them realise that for happiness to occur that they will have to sacrifice it ?

Melody Sumner is having a difficult enough time concentrating and doing what needs to be done for her internship. The last thing she needs is an attraction to man no matter how yummy he is. Add to all that the fact that her father is pressuring her to take over the hotel management and her brain might just explode!! Declan Waterford has to stay focused on the end goal. Making enough money to get his brother the medical care he needs. A promotion to the better paying and higher tips lounge is all he can concentrate on. No women. None!! When he embarrasses and angers the owners daughter, he's desperate to apologize and get her on his side. Too bad she has to be so attractive!

This book is exactly why I love the Lovestruck books! Fun, cute, sexy, light reads that are highly entertaining. This book definitely fits that description. I highly recommend it.

Declan has to take his woman's torture when they're dancing and sweet, sweet torture it is, "Declan’s ***k jumped. Damn, every time Melody ground her a** against it, it was like an electric shock to his gut." Declan is great for a girl's who, “that was all you, baby . A perfect a** makes for a perfect panty removal.” His gaze scorched as he drank in the flesh revealed." I liked this book it was sweet and I loved Declan.

This book was everything I love about Entangled Publishing’s Lovestruck line. It was cute in all the right places, with romantic moments that made me swoon. This book was equal parts fun, sexy, and smart and I just loved it so much.

First off, let’s talk about Declan Waterford. OMG- I was hooked right away by this sexy Irish musician, but as soon as I heard his compelling backstory and found out his reasons for being in Las Vegas in the first place, I was 100% on his side. Not only is he drop dead gorgeous and sweet to Melody, but he’s hell bent on doing right by his brother back home. I loved his singular dedication to his cause and could feel the burden he carried from a moment gone wrong in his past. I’m all for a tortured hero, and Declan was everything I could ask for.

Then we have Melody Sumner. This girl is all sorts of sweet, and I felt terrible for the way she kept messing things up in small ways with her internship. Brooklyn Skye has this way of creating characters that you just can’t help but root for, and Melody is the type that you want to be besties with. I wanted to give her a hug and a pep talk! She needed a morale boost in the worst way, and luckily Declan was just the man for the job.

The chemistry between Declan and Melody is sizzling. After reading this novel, I have a new appreciation for piano lessons! (Seriously- that scene is so amazing!) Brooklyn Skye knows how to turn up the heat in a romance novel, and the bedroom scenes in this book (or should I say piano scenes?!?) do not disappoint. This book is sexy as all get out!

Of course this book has a HEA (It is Lovestruck, after all!) and it is everything a romance reader could possibly ask for. The grand gesture is swoon worthy and it is a wonderful conclusion to a deftly written love story.

Brooklyn Sky is already on my insta-buy list, (seriously- if you haven’t read STRIPPED- get on that. It’s AMAZING.) and this book is yet another wonderful romance from her.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Why I read it: The opportunity came up for me to read this in exchange for an honest review. Brooklyn Skye has written one of my favourite NA novels and I was hoping for more of the same!

Plot: Melody is in Las Vegas attending a romance writers convention with her boss and Declan is working as a musician at the hotel; when they meet, sparks fly for all the wrong reasons. But they come to an agreement where they help each other, and then some.

My Thoughts: Declan and Melody - insta-lust to the extreme. I felt like this book wanted to really be just straight up erotica, but plot was a necessity. I didn't buy into said plot at all, it felt contrived and a little silly. I don't mind sex in a NA novel, but I need it to be there for a reason.

As mentioned above, Brooklyn Skye has written one of my favourite NA novels, but this one just didn't work for me. I need more plot and character development. I didn't connect to either Melody or Declan, they could have been soap opera characters; it was that sort of detachment. I don't really care what's going on, but I want to know what happens.

Having said that, I thought the end was sweet, and it made me wish the rest of the story had been more of that; them getting to know each other and being cute. If the start had been condensed and the type of stuff we got at the end increased I would have rated this higher.

The writing really is excellent, and it made the novel engaging. I did like it once I got through it, but I didn't love it.

I guess I need more substance in my NA. And I am hopeful I'll get that with the other two novels by Skye that are on my TBR!

In Brief: Not a bad NA novel, more on the steamy side than the plot side.

Just One Reason by Brooklyn Skye

Melody Sumner was an editorial intern trying to get her foot in the door towards the career she wanted. So, when her boss asked her to tag a long to a convention in Vegas, she could hardly refuse.

As luck would have it she was staying at the hotel her father was the Senior VP of. While there, her father was determined to convince her to give up the internship in sunny California and move to Vegas to manage the hotel.

While she was struggling to be successful, despite having Dyslexia, she was determined to prove herself to her boss.

While at a piano performance she was not impressed with Declan Waterford, a cocky Irish performer, who ran his mouth without thought.

She was determined to set him in his place and it backfired.

He may have won the battle but not the war.

When he realized he was rude to the big boss mans' daughter he was desperate to rectify the situation.

He could not allow anything to jeopardize his chance of earning the money needed to pay for his brothers surgery.

They had come to an agreement. She would put in a good word for him and he would give her piano lessons.

Melody had researched how playing an instrument could help her overcome her Dyslexia.

So, when he asked her what he could do for her she could not waste a life changing opportunity.

An agreement that was more than what either of them bargained for.

I REALLY enjoyed this book! I like how the book mentioned real life struggles. However, while I was satisfied with the ending, I feel like the timeline could have skipped ahead more than five weeks.

Declan Waterford is in Las Vegas for one reason and one reason only - to raise the funds to pay for the surgery his brother needs after a traumatic accident Declan blames himself for has left him a quadriplegic. The pioneering surgery will help reconnect the severed nerves and restore his control over his limbs but it is expensive so Declan left Ireland to play piano in the Vegas Masquerade hotel. The pay isn’t brilliant but the tips are making the difference, he just needs to keep working and earning as much as he can. He has no time for women - other than for the extra money they’ll tip him, relationships are out until he’s paid for the surgery

Melody Sumner is working as an editorial internship and is staying at the Masquerade for a romance writers’ convention. The fact that her father owns the hotel and actually wants her to run it are beside the point. When she hears Declan playing the piano in the bar she is impressed by his looks and his musical talent but his risqué style annoys her, so much so that she threatens to get him fired. This is the start of a story with plenty of angst and romance. The characters are great and easy to empathise with, helping the reader get involved in the story and providing a great story to escape into - another great Lovestruck story that leaves you feeling happy!

Thanks to the authors, publisher and NetGalley, too for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

See more of my reviews on my blog Thoughts At One In The Morning.

My Thoughts:

Melody meets Declan while he's playing piano at a hotel her father owns. She doesn't really like the way he handles himself on the stage because he is very crude. She threatens to tell her father about the way he does his set to get him removed, but then she asks him to do her a favor: teach her how to play piano while she's in town. She has a reason, and it has nothing to do with actually wanting to learn piano. Declan agrees, and he starts to teach her. During this process, they find each other irresistible... and end up on top of the piano for something other than a piano lesson. Melody is supposed to be leaving, but a few unfortunate events transpire to throw her life--and Declan's--for a loop. What will each of them decide to do?

Just One Reason is a short and sweet read. Pair a sexy Irishman with a somewhat innocent girl and the sparks are just a-flying everywhere! I appreciated how the author didn't make the characters do something they didn't want to just because other people were trying to force their hand. Nobody should have to do anything that isn't in the stars for them. Brooklyn Skye can keep the stories coming!

My Rating: Very Good

I was given this book for my honest review

“It’s not about how hard you hit the keys,” he interrupted her absentminded practice of chord progression, leaning in closer but careful to not make contact with her in any way. “The keys are like women. They need to be touched gently, caressed until they purr with the perfect… melody.”

Melody-pretty, scared

Declan-cute, sexy and hot

Melody and Declan’s journey is sensual and heartwarming. Declan is a man on a mission to do the right thing for his family by doing anything and everything possible. His wants and needs are put aside for the one that need him the most. What happens though when he comes across a smart mouth beauty with lips that go beyond the spectrum? Melody has a secret that she keeps hidden deep within but as the secret comes to light will Declan accept her even with her faults and will she accept Declan to finding their true hearts?

The author did a wonderful job in building these two characters up. There was no rush to this couple which made for a slow read. The words the author used to describe scenes was amazing and so visual but at the same time heartbreaking when reading this book. I give this author kudos for this amazing read and for approaching a subject with such calmness. A must read

Happy Reading

Just One Reason is a novella so it’s a quick read but it packs a punch of a story. Declan is in Vegas with one thing in mind – to raise the funds to pay for the surgery his brother needs after a traumatic accident Declan blames himself for has left him a quadriplegic. The surgery is expensive so he leaves Irlad to play piano in the Vegas hotel. While the pay isn’t overly big the tips he gets are making a definite difference. All he needs is to keep his head down to keep working and earning as much as he can. Women are not in the cards for Declan other than to give him tips. No relationships until he is able to pay for the surgery. Melody is working as an editorial internship and is staying at her father’s hotel Masquerade for a romance writers’ convention. Melody thinks Declan is talented and very attractive but his risqué style annoys her, so much so that she threatens to get him fired. The characters are easy to empathize with so I was able to get invested in the story. There was plenty of angst and romance. Lovestruck definitely produced a good book with this one. I’d give it a 4.5 out of 5 stars.

This book was amazing. We get to meet Declan as sexy as hell piano player who comes to Vegas in order to earn enough money to pay for surgery for his older brother. Feeling guilty for the accident he's decided that nothing is going to stand in the way of making money. Enter Melody. She's the VP of operations daughter who most definitely doesn't want to step into her father's footsteps. She's in town for a romance conference and ends up asking for Declan's help in learning to play the piano. Little do either of them know that some chemistry just can't be denied.

Brooklyn Skye never ceases to amaze me with her talented writing style and the ability to draw you into her books. She makes you feel like you could be friends with the characters. It takes a truly talented writer to accomplish this and she has it in spades. All in all this is a must read summer book for anyone who loves a sexy Irishman who is good with his hands.

Just One Reason was such a sweet romance. I love a good romance book, and this one had enough to keep me wanting more. Melody was such a sweet character. She wants to do better, and she keeps messing up. Her confidence is lacking, and she really needs to build it up. Declan is a sexy Irish musician who needs to make money for his brother. I love these type of books because who doesn’t love a sexy man who is caring enough to help his family. It makes your heart melt, and Declan sure did that. I loved Melody and Declan together. The sexy parts were done very well, and they were extremely hot.
This is my frist book by Brooklyn Syke. She didn’t let me down, and I will be reading more from her in the future. I love when an author can hook you in the story I away that makes you keep reading. I definitely did that in Just One Reason. I started it and finished it in one sitting. I would highty recommend this title to anyone who loves a sweet romance

Declan is working at a dueling piano bar trying to save up enough money for his brother to have a serious surgery, when he meets Melody. Melody happens to be the CEO's daughter and could be his ticket to getting the better position he's been hoping for. I liked this one to start out but it just got more and more unbelievable as the story went on. Melody's "poor me" attitude and he complete lack of faith in herself really started to grate on my nerves. The ending ended up just seeming ridiculous.

Synopsis:
Declan Waterford to him women are off limits, at least until he can earn enough

money for his brother’s surgery. He has a dueling piano gig at Vegas’s Masquerade Hotel.

Melody Sumner is an editorial intern drowning in mistakes, and fighting off her father’s demands that she join his hotel empire. She doesn’t have time for one night stands with sexy piano players.

My Review:

This was a quick read. I give it 4 stars. It kept my interest, in wondering how they would handle certain situations. This book deals with a couple of different handicaps and I wish that there was actual closure with one of them. ( won”t spoil it for you) I was just a bit disappointed. But maybe there will be a book 2.

It took a bit to get into this book, but once It got going, I enjoyed Declan and Melody’s story. I felt bad for Melody’s work life. She couldn’t help that her dyslexia kept causing problems for everyone and messing up her work. Meeting Declan seemed to be exactly what she needed. I liked Declan and what he was fighting for immediately. I have a soft spot for men who do whatever it takes to take care of their family. Declan was willing to throw away a chance at happiness to make sure he made enough money for his brother.

Melody and Declan together were hot and really sweet. I loved watching them come together. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more by Brooklyn Skye in the future.

I have been reading a lot of lovestuck book this month and I have to say that this one fits right into the genre. It was definitely one of those books you will want to read when you just want a sweet quick read. Sometimes when reading a quick read a story falls short and seems rushed, but this story had a very nice pace to it.

Melanie, an intern at a romance publishing company, meets Declan, a piano bar player, at her father’s hotel during a romance convention. Melanie was completely smitten with him at firs, I mean who wouldn’t be? Until she watches him play at the piano bar, she is instantly not a fan on how he conducts himself, but she wants to learn to play piano from him.

Again, this was a sweet, sexy quick read with likable characters and story line that will entertain you.

I'm the author, so of course I might be a bit biased. When Entangled asked me to write this book, I had no idea how much fun working with multiple authors (and their editors) on a continuity series would be. For those who don't know, the What Happens in Vegas series has (or will have) 20 contributing authors who all write a story that takes place in Vegas, at the same hotel, on the same weekend during a Romance Lovers Convention. Details thread from one book to the next, and I can't tell you what a joy it was to write. If you enjoyed JUST ONE REASON, be sure to check out the other What Happens in Vegas stories, which can be found on the Entangled Lovestruck web page!

This was a light quick read that was pretty good. I enjoyed the banter/defense mechanisms between Declan and Melody when they first met and spoke, laced with a little sexual chemistry. But when Declan felt protective of Melody was when I liked him more. Declan was a little rough around the edges (swoon) but underneath was a loyalty to his brother. Melody had her own insecurities that Declan helped her work through. The ending was very real to me, not a crazy HEA after two days, but very believable and very heartwarming.

At first I had a hard time getting into this book. I just couldn't pay attention even though Declan was a HOT, Irish, musician. Three things I personally, love lol. But the further I got into it the better it got. I was a Brooklyn Skye virgin before this book and I found her writing and character development to be very good. This book has just the right amount of passion/angst/HEA that I think I've come to expect from Entangled Lovestruck books. All in all, a decent 4 star read.

Thank you to NetGalley for a digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

DNF at 48%.

I really tried to finish reading this but just couldn't get into it, even almost 50% through it. The writing isn't bad, but it reads like a typical romance novel that is a bit cliche and smutty, which is fine for those who enjoy that. It's just not my preference. While I don't read a lot of romance novels, I do like ones that don't follow a formula too closely, and this one just follow that typical formula too much for my taste.

"Just One Reason" by Brooklyn Skye is my first read by this author, and will not be my last. We have Declan Waterford, sexy musician, and Melody Sumner, who is a sweet person but seems to have a string of bad luck that follows her.
