This book is, in a word, an awkward crossover between a travelog and an inspirational booklet, attempting to blend traveling experiences with life lessons. Unfortunately the result doesn't really deliver in either category. While I get the sense that the author is a very seasoned traveler and the experiences have greatly transformed him, the pearls of wisdom he tries to impart are often buried under his over-sentimental and self-absorbed monologue-like sentences. On top of that, the same handful of core ideas are repeatedly paraphrased every few pages to the point that whatever good idea the book may have starts to become bland and hollow. Were it not for the many beautiful photos inside, I probably would have given this book a 2-star rating. For readers interested in the insights to be gained through traveling, I would recommend 給回來的旅行者:人生,才是你的正職 instead.
