A bad night at the Lyrebird. Unheard of. How dreadful, darling.
Sydney’s most glamorous hotel does not have bad nights. The champagne is cold, the guests are beautiful, and nothing is ever allowed to go wrong.
So when Hugo Marchant, a wealthy Englishman, is found dead in a harbourside pool at the height of the season, well. How sad. How terribly unlucky. Everyone agrees it’s a tragedy, and everyone orders another drink.
Detective Sergeant Robyn Calder doesn’t do tidy. The coroner has signed it off, the hotel wants it forgotten, and everyone who matters would rather she went home. Which is exactly why she isn’t leaving until she knows what really happened at that pool.
All smiles. All suspects.
NIGHTCAP is the first Robyn Calder novel, a glittering, sharp-tongued crime thriller for readers who like their mysteries clever and their hotels dangerous. For readers of Tana French, Jane Harper and Bella Mackie.
The opening was probably one of my favourite things about it. It grabbed my attention straight away and had me asking questions almost immediately. I wanted to know what was going on, where the story was heading and what was going to happen next. I kept telling myself I’d read just a little more, but I was too invested to put it down!
I really enjoyed how the story kept that sense of curiosity going. There was enough revealed to keep me interested, but still enough left unanswered that I genuinely wanted to keep reading.
I’m so happy this was my first ARC! Thank you so much, Lynne, for trusting me with your book. I really enjoyed it and I’m so glad I got the chance to read it early. ❤️
I received a free advance copy. Loved the storyline! Characters were well done and worth following into future cases. The intricacies of the plot were great. I enjoyed following the clues back and forth. Good ending, both logistically and emotionally. An author I will follow.
This is a great book! A strong FMC, who doesn't think accidents are "neat"and won't take no for an answer. Beautifully written, intriguing and captivating - I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
