In a future filled with warring factions, one young woman must risk everything to be reunited with the man she loves. Despised for the name she bears, and trapped behind enemy lines, she knows that her life and the lives of those she loves rests on her choosing her allies wisely. Yet in a world where greed is rampant and only the strong survive, how can she find the courage to trust again?
My name is Dee Dee, I'm twenty seven and I live in a beautiful part of Devon, England, with my family.
That introduction made me feel a little bit like I was on Blind Date!!!
As our house is in the countryside we have some unusual neighbours including chickens, ducks, geese, pheasants, a cat (that adopted us when we moved in!!!) and some koi. I also have a very long suffering younger sister, Jingle, who is a brilliant guitar player. She keeps me supplied with coffee and brownies, generally making sure that the Chant household doesn't grind to a halt.
I really hope you enjoy reading my books as much as I enjoy writing them. I love reading and have a kindle, I enjoy almost every genre; if there is adventure and romance I'll be there with coffee and a brownie! I also like to cook and wear impractical high heels! You may also have noticed that I have a horrible addiction to exclamation marks!!!
Broken Pride by D.D. Chant Broken City Series Book Three Deeta Andak is definitely seeing life in the real world. Everything her father and Tom had sheltered her from all these years is now her new reality. Death. War. Hate. Mistrust. Even the tribe that saved her and Jan from the Lewises could turn on her. Can she hold onto who she is? Or will she become someone she never wanted to be?
Tom will not be beaten down. He has to live to protect his wife. His family. He just needs to escape the hell he's in to do that.
This story picks up where the previous book left off, Broken Truce. Our heroes and heroines are fighting for peace and to rescue their loved ones. And a few of the Andak's are being enlightened about their lifestyle compared to the others in the City. And if they can lower their pride enough, they'll understand why they are so hated and maybe, but doubtful, change their ways. **Some violence http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
I read the first two books and I like the way the author shoves us right into story, picking up where she had left off on the last book.
As we learned in the first two books, Deeta, was sheltered by her father and Tom, from all the bad in the world. Open to the world now, she has to suffer through the reality that life is not wonderful, that bad things happen and people are not what they seem. That people fight, they hate and they lie to get what they want, that no one can be trusted, no one.
Tom’s objective is not to give up that he has to fight, live to make sure that his wife and family are safe and taken care of.
This third book was good. I like the way that the author thrust Deeta into the real word, making her realize the harsh reality of what life is and how for all the good people, there are bad.
Deeta has grown up so much throughout this series and gone from being truly naïve to seeing how the world really works. She still has some learning to do, but she is n longer the annoying little girl I once thought she was.
Being with the birds has taught her allot about herself and how things are run, but now she has to put everything she has learned to good use and try to help those she loves most as well as the City.
Tom might me captured but he's never helpless, and we see more and more of his mind and how he works things out.
The Lewis tribe is becoming more and more bold and it's up to everyone to find a way to overcome their differences and weaknesses if they want to survive.
With plenty of twists you never know what's gonna happen and the story keeps you glued to the pages as you try to guess what will happen next!
Well written, cleverly plotted 3rd installment in the Broken City series. I have been waiting for this third book for some time now, so you can imagine my excitement when I was graciously informed that it was finally available.
When last we saw Deeta and Tom they had been painfully separated from each other after being ambushed by the Lewises. Deeta was saved by a smaller tribe, the Birds while Tom was being held prisoner by Captain Max, Linus and Neddy all from the Lewises clan. This book picks up from where we left off. Deeta has a nasty leg injury and Tom is still being held by Max, who interestingly enough starts to show a whole new side to himself one in which He and Tom can find some common ground.
This book has a lot of moving parts both with the separate situations going on with our two protagonists and many other actions/situations taking place with some of the more minor yet equally important characters. We see several of Tom's brothers plot to not only find him but also work towards what was ultimately on of his main goals, peace. This book is clever, intelligent and has many political undertones at the same time it is action packed, thrilling, sometimes violent but also enlightening especially through Deeta.
Deeta by far has the biggest transformation in this story. Being newly exposed to the outside world she is coming face to face with all the emotions and violence that reside within the other clans. Hate, revenge, disgust and fear are all very prevalent among the people who cross her path and it begins to affect her outlook on not just life in general but also herself. By the end of this third book we see a very capable, cunning and fearless Deeta rise up to start taking control of her situation. Its well done and very believable, as a reader you almost start to go through the same evolution if you will. You are right there with Deeta as she starts to go down this new journey of her life. You feel the same pain, rage, love and hope.
Chant gives her readers a nice little twist at the end of this book that I didn't see coming and it was both quite a surprise and also well received. It think it was a very smart and slick little shocker but I won't be spilling the beans on what it is. You will just have to read the book!
By the looks of the ending the Broken City Series is not over just yet and I can't wait to see what tactics Chant will employ in the next installment of this series. Chant's series is thoroughly developed with a multitude of complex characters that are both easy to despise and easy to admire. The Broken City world is not only creative but ingenious. Very well done, readers of the apocalyptic genre will definitely enjoy it.
In the future, your last name could be a reason to be held against your will. It's not just other countries you have to fear, it's people across town or even your neighbor. You must choose carefully when you decide to become part of a group. One young couple will risk everything to be together. Will they be strong enough to survive?
The book is very well written and has terrific characters. I'm always curious to see how people will portray our future. I really enjoyed the "Romeo and Juliet" type of relationship the young couple have. The book is captivating and well worth the read.
I did find an issue. I felt as if I was missing some information. Like I jumped into the middle of a conversation. You definitely have to read the others in the series.
I gave this one 3 cheers out of 5 because I felt lost as I read this one. ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~
I hope this is not the final book in this series, because I really like the characters, and there are definitely a few loose ends. It was interesting to see Tom and Deeta especially outside their city, and how they adapted to survive. While this is not favourite of the Broken City series, it was quite well-written and I enjoyed following the tribes further on their quest for peace. The negative for me would probably be the increased violence as compared with the other books. Hoping for #4 soon :)
