From Best Selling Author, Lexy Timms, comes a billionaire romance that'll make you swoon and fall in love all over again.
Jamie Connors has given up on finding a man. Despite being smart, pretty, and just slightly overweight, she's a magnet for the kind of guys that don't stay around.
Her sister's wedding is at the foreground of the family's attention. Jamie would be find with it if her sister wasn't pressuring her to lose weight so she'll fit in the maid of honor dress, her mother would get off her case and her ex-boyfriend wasn't about to become her brother-in-law.
Determined to step out on her own, she accepts a PA position from billionaire Alex Reid. The job includes an apartment on his property and gets her out of living in her parent's basement.
Jamie has to balance her life and somehow figure out how to manage her billionaire boss, without falling in love with him.
** The Boss is book 1 in the Managing the Bosses series. All your questions won't be answered in the first book. It may end on a cliff hanger.
For mature audiences only. There are adult situations, but this is a love story, NOT erotica.
hated. hated. hated. DNF @42% I cannot stand weak women as a heroine in a romance novel. boyfriend treated you like shit dumps you gets engaged to your bratty spoiled sister and you are the maid of honor? you let her talk down to you and just take it? you let your family treat you like crap and still do whatever they want? you let your ex keep your damn apartment that your sister moves into while you live with you jackass parents in the basement of their house? all while they tear down your self esteem what little you have and call you obese cause your a size 12?!!!!! and then you allow your ex to insult the shit out of you and push you off onto a friend of his for a job and you actually go for it like "Uh huh okay "?! are you out of your damn mind?!!!!?? I was literally disgusted. I need a damn refund.
This one is short and cute novella, but it would be much better if heroine had more courage to go against her family. She is the factor that I didn't like and I didn't really had some connection with H. Also, there is the sentences that I hate more than anything in books (well, almost anything) : Not with the lights on.
Yeah, that doesn't work well with me.
Still, I'm planing to read next part, but I hope heroine will be stronger and more confident.
The story was great but the writing unpolished. No subtleties here. Not to mention the story itself is super short and ends in a really odd place...I'm assuming it's part one of a serial? Men.
I almost didn't even put that I read this because I was ashamed I even did it. But I'm convinced I have to let others know to stay away. At least I can get this off my Kindle without feeling like I might be deleting something worth keeping...
Don't do it. Reconsider. Don't read this... "literature"
Also.. the double disclaimers of "this is not erotica" is HIIIIIGHLY unnecessary. Because I don't think anyone might mistake this for erotica, boo boo...
BRIDEZILLA SISTER + DOUCHE-BAG EX-BOYFRIEND + SMART PA WITH CURVES + BILLIONAIRE HOT BOSS = 5-STAR READ!
Jaime Connors is sitting a restaurant celebrating her younger and thinner sister, Christine, engagement to her douche-bag ex-boyfriend – Stephen.
“… given up on finding a man. Despite being smart, pretty, and just slightly overweight, she's a magnet for the kind of guys that don't stay around.”
With her high maintenance, bridezilla of a sister who demanded Jaime to lose a substantial amount of weight to be consider the maid of honor. Not only was Christine tying to guilt Jaime, but also the entire family was trying to get her to assist with for everything wedding related to the wedding so Jaime knows she needs to move out of her parents’ basement soon!
While at the engagement party, Stephen runs in to his old college acquaintance – Alex Reid. Alex was telling Stephen how he is looking for a Personal Assistant who is efficient, not a beautiful distraction, and most importantly can get the job done. Stephen tells Alex he has the perfect person in mind and she is ‘hardly beautiful’ – Jaime.
“Taking a deep breath, she sucked in her belly and tried to appear calm as she opened the door from the bathroom, surprising both Stephen and Alex.” “She wouldn’t have been surprised if there had been a loud stomping sound from her jaw hitting the floor. The most gorgeous man she had ever laid eyes on stood in front of her.”
Alex offers the Personal Assistant position to Jaime, which includes a two-bedroom apartment on his property too! Will Jaime manage to get to close to the Boss’ heart?
“She loved her job, her apartment and she was even beginning to like herself again. What happened with Stephen sucked a royal big one, but, oddly…”
Lexy Timms’ THE BOSS (Managing the Bosses), does a magnificent job writing a captivating story that will have you feel as if you are on an emotional roller coaster of COMPASSION, SADNESS, ANGER, DECEPTION, LUST, JEALOUSY, FRIENDSHIP, SUSPENSE, HOT SEX SCENES, and LOVE. THE BOSS will capture your attention immediately and will be unable to put the book down, but do not be surprised when left with a cliffhanger. I cannot wait until the next release, THE BOSS TOO coming hopefully this month!
"Mr. Reid only breaks hearts…He’s not romantic. He’ll never tear himself away from his work enough to actually care about anyone else."
Lexy Timms’ THE BOSS (Managing the Bosses), receives - 5 AMAZING STARS!
Blurb is not appealing. AT ALL. This “overweight character” plot is never done right. And to make matters worse her ex boyfriend is marrying her sister and they’re making her a bridesmaid and she says nothing. Where in this world is this appealing to anyone??And the word: CLIFFHANGER is poisonous to my eyes. P.S. there’s grammatical mistake in the blurb...😕
First off, I hated this girls family so freaking much. They were the absolute worst for fat-shaming her and making her feel less than she was. She was part of the family even if they didn't want her to be. Completely heartless and selfish people that didn't deserve Jamie one freaking bit. Then to top it all off, her ex-boyfriend was beyond sleazy and I hated him too. Almost equally to her family because he was a douche canoe throughout the book.
That being said, Jamie is done with love and men. She wants no part of it because of what has happened to her. It also doesn't help that her own family keeps degrading her right and left. I mean, I would've throat punched anyone in my family if they told me I had to quit my job because it was taking me away from my maid of honor duties. Are you shitting me? It's not even a real job so please calm your tits sweetheart.
I also hated how they continually judged Jamie on her wait. No matter how hard she tried to lose it or diet, they still made nasty comments. I was so proud of her when she just started to work out for her. Screw your horrible family and do you boo boo.
Then there's Alex. God, he has caused so much whiplash that I don't know what to think about him or them right now.
This was a fast paced story which I LOVE!. Jamie I love her! She's great BUT I can't wait for her to grow a pair and just snap on that sister and mother of hers! Ugh. And Alex! Wow! Sexy confusing Alpha! I hate that it ended in a cliffhanger I need September to be here ASAP!
was given an advance copy of this book for an honest review from United Indie Book blog
I really enjoyed this book. I just wish there was more to the ending. I felt like it the author could have added more to the story but there was some good moment in the book but really wanted to kill the sister and Stephen the jerk.
I have a confession....I've become a bit of a hoochie mama in my reading style lately. Everything from erotic romance to vanilla romance. Everyone keeps recommending these style of books and I hate to pass on recommendations. I read about a book every 2 days, sometimes more, and truthfully? The hoochie mama stint has gotten old....and boring....and repetitive. Just yesterday, I found myself glossing over the sex scenes. Really? I mean, really?
But when I went on and found that The Boss was free (on book hub), I said "just one more." I mean, really? It's hard to pass up billionaire romances. I'm sort of a sucker. I am so glad I gave it a chance. In one word, it's so darn refreshing.
Backing up a bit....my daughter has pink eye. She's miserable, so she spent the day watching Backyardigans, not wanting to do anything else. And I spent the day meeting Jamie Connors and her boss. I flew through the book, only to purchase the next one, then the next one, reading so fast and so furious, I broke the internet. Seriously. It won't let me load the next installment.
What I found refreshing in this first book is that there isn't an instant love. There also isn't an instant sex scene/orgasm. I'm always surprised by the amount of instant-orgasms that happen in romance. Sometimes I wonder whether I should talk to my OB about my lack of instant-orgasms every time an attractive man simply passes by me. So many protagonists seem to always have quivering kegel muscles, I wonder if I'm doing something wrong...shoot...I digress again...
I also didn't mind that 80 percent of the book went by without kisses. The build up is so well done, I didn't even mind it. I'm also surprised that the lack of a backbone in the protagonist didn't bother me as much as those characters usually do. And trust me, she's a TOTAL pushover, but again, Timms had me flipping the pages with addiction.
Highly recommend for readers who like a fun, light romance and don't take themselves too seriously.
This book made me so angry!! Not because it wasn’t good but because of the horrible mother and sister. They really made me sick at times and I could understand Jamie not wanting to add something because she would only be shut down. I hope to god that she will get the confidence to stand up for herself.
In this book there was lots of talk about weight and yes sometimes it was a bit over the top and you could look at in a negative way. But I think the reason it was mentioned so much was her family pressured her in to stat of mind that made her look at herself differently. That made her act the way she did and lead to the lack of confidence.
This book was not what I imagined. I definitely did not expect the abrupt ending and the main character’s family was horrible. I had a hard time buying the romance, but I’m going to blame that on the fact that I never really got to read from Alex’s POV. So I just had to go based off of what he was saying and I wasn’t buying it. It was just off which is annoying cause I really liked the first few chapters.
I have never rated a book this low. I think two stars is me being generous but it's okay, I've learned to appreciate 'literature' no matter how trashy it is. I dislike the ending so much. Hate. It caught me off guard about how short the book is. You know what else surprised me? What Jamie found on Alex's computer. And how he just came in and shit went down. AND THEN IT JUST ENDS. I feel like the storyline had some potential but then the author never developed it. There is barely any depth to the characters. The only person with somewhat of SOMETHING is Jamie but even then her whole personality is being 'slightly overweight'— as described in the bullshit of a blurb. Her Mom, sister and sister's fiance are heavily exaggerated and just a big cliché overall. I hated how much they put emphasis on her weight and that's a good thing, we're supposed to hate them but it was so cringy how shitty her entire family was. Let's not forget the fact that her sister's (Christine) fiancé is Jamie's ex-boyfriend... Jamie is the maid of honour and does everything for her sister's wedding... her ex-boyfriend is the groom. Jamie is so annoying, it triggered me so much how she doesn't snap back at her garbage family. There are multiple unfinished and confusing storylines inside this minuscule story as well. When Alex is introduced while talking to Stephen (ex-boyfriend), Stephen says 'how is it being a bachelor'— something along the lines of that, the novel is very forgettable! In the next chapter, Gina or Lina (a secretary at Alex's enterprise) says "Girlfriend." when Jamie asks who's the other coffee for. Inconsistent. Talking about Alex's girlfriend (Annette), WHAT EVEN HAPPENED TO HER? It's so confusing. What happened to the story with her sister's fiancé forcing himself onto Jamie? WHY DID THE BOOK JUST END with them doing the dirty? Is the second book in this series a continuation of this same plot? I wasn't planning on reading the second story in this series but I'm kind of intrigued by the idea of reading it just to bash it on Goodreads. Changed my mind, I'm rating it a one-star.
What a great start to the series!! I fell in love with Jamie right from the start. She has had a horrible life and has an even worse family, but the one bright light in her life is her new boss Alex. He is everything she could want in a man, but she doesn't want to cross that line. Why you might ask? Because she doesn't feel worthy of anything good, her family has beat her down for so long, that she is not sure how to be strong anymore. What she doesn't realize is that is she strong because of them. They may have degraded her beyond belief, but only a truly strong person could survive that.
Alex, oh how I love Alex. He knows he shouldn't want Jamie, but he can't help but be attracted to her. He tries to keep his distance, but the more he tries, the more he fails. He isn't sure what to do with his feelings and tries everything he can to stop them from coming to light. What he doesn't realize is that he is just the type of man Jamie needs.
I loved seeing how strong Jamie was in the face of all things bad in her life. I loved how she fought for her independence and would let nothing stop her from keeping her job. I also loved how Alex kept slipping up around her. I can't wait to see what is in store next for these two. I truly hope the author gives them the HEA they both deserve!
Jamie is a young woman who we find stuck at a dinner with her family and ex-boyfriend. He met her younger sister and dumped her, asking her sister to marry him. She excuses herself during dinner to go to the restroom and before she knows it, her ex is talking to someone in the hallway. Talking to him about how his work is going. What her ex does next is unbelievable, but maybe also one of the best things he has ever done for her. She is able to move out of her parent's basement, get away from her bridezilla of a sister for the days that she is at work, and has a nice apartment to come home to. What is it like to be someone's PA (Personal Assistant)? This book, while a work of fiction, almost glamorizes the position of a PA in a way that rally is hot. Who starts the office gossip about Jamie? What do they say? How does she find out? What happens when she is heading out to run errands for her boss Alex and her ex-boyfriend shows up? Watch as Jamie comes up with a wicked plan that works perfectly! This really is a fun, and semi-short story about an office romance, hence the title "The Boss."
RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin' With M.Brennan.
Jamie Connors meets Alex Reid at a restaurant where her ex-boyfriend is celebrating being engaged to her sister. She is recommended to him as a woman who is not distracting, who is overweight. Her family treats her like a fat Cinderella. She needs the job so she can move out of her parent's basement.
Alex offers her the job right away. She comes highly recommended by her previous employers. She is also overwhelmed with planning the wedding for her sister who is a lazy, spoiled brat. She is also marrying Jamie's ex.
Even when she asks her family to join her for her birthday dinner - they do not remember what day it is. She has to pay. The discussion at the table is only on her sister's wedding and not on her birthday. What kind of family does that?
Such an incredibly moving story. I wanted to reach through the book and kill the sister and ex-boyfriend. This book definitely moves the reader to feel things. All kinds of things. On the other hand, it has great characters and an amazing plot.
I do not want to give it all away. I will say as book one in the new Managing the Bosses series, it was a definite BANG! I loved all of it and cannot wait for the next book!

Jamie has very low self-esteem thanks to her family and they way they treat her. She has a younger sister, Christine, who is very high maintenance. Christine is getting married and relies on Jamie to pretty much do everything for the wedding, she even insists that Jamie lose weight or she won't be maid of honour.
Stephen is Christine's finance and Jamies ex boyfriend. He is a real shallow jerk and dumped Jamie because she had gained a little weight.
Alex is Stephen's friend from college. He is looking to hire a P.A and Stephen recommends he hire Jamie as she is not a distraction (his words). Alex hires Jamie but he seems to find her attractive as well as am amazing P.A.
This book ends on a cliff hanger of sorts and I can't wait to find out what happens with Alex and Jamie next.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Ever wonder where body issues and low self-esteem come from? Meet the Connors and Jamie's ex-boyfriend Stephan (her little sister's fiancé). After all if she was skinnier he wouldn't have cheated and hey she really should suck it up and drop six dress sizes to earn the right of being maid of honor. Enter Alex, Stephan's college friend, workaholic billionaire with more going on his work life then he can handle on his own that realizes it's time to find a PA who will hopefully be a non distraction. Stephan has the perfect solution.... His fat, unattractive soon to be sister-in-law. Be prepared to be ready to murder Jamie's mother, sister, ex-boyfriend, and even her father a couple of times!! Alex sees her for what she truly is and tries to get her to see it too! Can't wait to see where it goes from here.
I had finishing listening to the book as didn't know it. Their was no chemistry between Alex and Jamie. She was driving me nuts with her low self esteem and Alexa was all alpha male. Her whole family was a nightmare. I definitely hope the continuation is better.
I love Timms main character, Jamie. She's real and not the flawless size 4 sex kitten many authors favor. Cheers for the real woman with the nightmare family and hot sexy boss.

My Thoughts I hadn't realised that this was a 10 part series. The book ends pretty abruptly and it could've done with being a little longer. So far it's enjoyable. I'm only interested in reading ahead because I want Jamie or Alex to tell Jamie's family off.
So very short novella.. needs more depth.. maybe because it's a series that's why it was like this .. gonna read the rest 'cause I really liked the concept of the heroïne being a slight overweight!
Jamie has some issues. Belittled by her mom and sister, not to mention her sister’s fiancée (her ex-boyfriend!!) Stephen, it was hard to not want to shout at Jamie to wake the fuck up and get a backbone. At least she took on a new job, and Alex seems like a good guy.... but with issues. I enjoy Jamie finding something she excels at, but the weight loss bullying is definitely a trigger for me, and though I think it is supposed to be handled insensitively, it definitely rubbed me the wrong way. Wish I could be Jamie’s friend to tell her so!
