This was quite a nice short read. I believe that there are 3 episodes in all, but I don't know if I will be reading the 2nd & 3rd. It was an ok read. 3☆
Readers want stories--Cliffhangers don't do the job
I would never recommend any cliffhanger and will never buy from Helen Evans again. She socks me in with strong characters and then doesn't finish the story. I equate a writer falling onto the "because I can, it's easy money" philosophy of the cliffhanger with a merchant who sells a 15 ounce pound. The buyer doesn't get what he/she paid for. I put my time into being the reader, then the author slams the door and says "Pay me more." Nope.
No more purchases, no good review, no recommendations. I don't have time to waste and nobody else does, either. Evans writes well enough she doesn't need to rely on trickery to sell her books.. Give us the whole story or the whole truth up front so I know to go to other authors who give me what I paid for.
A woman leaves the city and her sad excuse of an ex husband to her grandma's ranch...you do feel sorry for the son having one more thing to have to cope with. She meets sleezy guys almost immediately, lost in what to do, and then meets a handsome cowboy neighbor.. seems too good to be true on how quickly they fell for each other, plus everything else...not telling..read and find out. Plus the ending, just when you think it can't get worse for her....need the second one!!!!
Well, were do I begin. Oh, yes, I really like the characteds personality but Heather was a very strong women by also taking care of his son. But any way, it truned out pretty good but I didn't like how the ending ended. Until, I realized I have to continue to read the second book series on unlimited kindle, huh.
Moving back to Texas after her divorce Heather takes over her Grandmothers ranch where the problems start. Can her handsome neighbour Hudson give her some direction on running a ranch. Or will he add to her problems?
This was a mostly sweet story. A single Mom inherits a ranch from her Grandmother and then meets the guy next door. They fall in love but there is trouble ahead! Keep reading....
I didn't like any of it, the storyline was really slow, and there were parts which I've read a million times or more. For example, Heather's ex-husband left her for a secretary. How many times have we read that? As a result of the predictability, the sympathy that we, as readers, should feel towards Heather was non existent.
At first, I found the predicament Heather faced to be fairly compelling, since she seemed to be at ends in trying to figure out what to do. But then this brief interest vanished and I began to loathe Her, as she made her decision very quickly. It was as though it was too easy, even though having read her prior thoughts we were aware that it was anything but. For example, she had been concerned about Jamie, about her work, about her ex-husband, but then all of a sudden, there were no issues.
To me, this presented her as a poor parent as she failed to consult her son about the situation and she didn't even present her decision delicately. This made me laugh, since shortly after, she questioned her son's unhappiness and bitter nature. Ultimately, her decision was a disadvantage for Jamie, her son as it meant that he would be separated from his friends, his father (even though his father barely visited), as well as his school.
We again see Heather as a bad parent when she begins to get serious with Hudson, as her son barely knows him and they have no talk about where the relationship is heading. Though, Hudson does claim that he loves both Heather and Jamie, but there are no instances, in the novel, when we see Jamie and Hudson interacting. Thus, presenting Heather as selfish in that she fails to think of her son's feelings.
Also Heather forgave Hudson too easily, which made no sense since she had already been betrayed, therefore you'd think she'd be more careful. Her initial attraction also made little sense, since she was a divorcee you'd again think she'd be wounded or willing to learn from the past.
Also within the novel, there were a number of spelling and grammatical errors.
The novel can be read as a standalone (since the issues at the end are not very intriguing) but not all issues are solved by the end. I am not planning to read the next novel.
This is a quick starter novella that finishes after few chapters and leaves the book unfinished unless you go for the next book. I find the cover ridiculous - that a cowboy cannot be decent if his shirt, for example, would be closed? Its annoying that this way it is suppose to attract me as a reader.
The plot started pretty well and I was giving hope this would be a fine novel, until it was rushed with testament and house organisation. Many times I was thinking why when in doubt the main character, Heather, does not call her parents for advice, as they are local and would definitely know whats the story with those unwelcome guys. Some parts of the story I found unfortunately not adequate with the mysterious neighboring guy, as well as managing the staff at the ranch.
I understand it is a sequence book, but - its has to be edited to get into fulfilling the characteristics and make them more realistic.
I enjoyed what there is of this book, its story was fairly interesting and has a simple charm to it. I'm not a fan of cliff hangers and the length of the story is short. It's got betrayal and lust and love and a definite country charm.
The Cowboys Heart by Helen Evans was a bit of a disappointment. This book could have had better editing and it does end in a cliff-hanger. Hudson and Heather's story is slow moving, and looks to be stretched over 3 books, but it's a fairly short read. There's plenty of drama and sizzle.
I liked the story...so far. I didn't know it ended on a cliffhanger but as you kept reading with no actual conclusion, you would guess there will be another part. Otherwise I like the story!
I just finished with this book. I enjoyed reading it. It had an ending that I did not expect. I will have to wait till I can get the others to see what happens.
