Under Ground: Liminal Spaces - Book Two
Alice's brother is missing, and she must race against the clock to find him.
After learning about her banshee heritage, Alice MacEwan is eager to share the news with her brother, Lewis. But he hasn’t been answering her calls or texts. When she hears from her brother’s fiancé, Jeremy, that Lewis has gone missing, she races to Brooklyn to help find him.
On top of that, Alice's powers have been changing since her visit to Faerie, the home world of her fae ancestors. With no teacher, because her kind were hunted nearly to extinction, she must master her new abilities alone.
And this may not be a simple missing person's case; the fae may be involved, and her brother may be in mortal danger. Together with two fae allies, they explore New York City’s underground gambling scene, the tunnels beneath the city, and its intersections with Faerie, facing perils of their own along the way.
Will they find Lewis in time? Is his disappearance related to forbidden alchemy? Follow Alice through the labyrinth as she tries to find her brother before the clock strikes thirteen and she loses him forever.

Under Ground is a very worthy sequel to Down the Rabbit Hole, Neilsen's first book in the Liminal Spaces series.
I'm a huge urban fantasy fan, and this book takes us out of the slightly suburban landscape of southwestern Connecticut and drops us squarely into NYC. Changes of scenery are often a welcome spice, and we're treated to an "away mission" sooner than I might otherwise have expected in a series.
Alice's premonitions of death continue and we get a deeper look into both the magic of the fae and her interpersonal relationships with her brother and his partner. One of my favorite parts of the book is the longer stay we get with Aheery as a supporting character.
There is plenty of action, more than the first book, and the mystery of her brother's disappearance stays at the forefront for the duration. We're also introduced to a new villain and overarching plot that I expect we'll see in the third book.
Overall a great follow on to a debut, and if you liked the first book you absolutely should pick up the second.

Such a fun sequel!! I ARC read the first one and was honored to ARC read this one as well but now I’m dying for book 3!!
This series is such a unique, fun twist on Alice in Wonderland. Original, action-packed and just a great, quick read overall!
If you’re obsessed with Alice like me, give the Liminal Spaces series a go - starting with Down the Rabbit Hole!

I recieved an advanced copy of this book from the author.
Through hardships unnumbered indeed.
Underground is a lovely jaunt through both New York and the underground mazes of the Fae. Unforgettable characters return, such as Jay, Aheery and, of course, Alice. This time, instead of going down the rabbit hole with all of the Alice and Wonderland references, Alice is on a search for her (grown) baby brother. She and her brother's fiancee are forced to explore the inner workings of Fae mazes with as many fun references to the Labyrinth as any 80/90s kid could hope for. Through many challenges, we learn more about Alice’s past and her prophesied future.
Personal favs:
Chester the cat. I love him.
The foreshadowing in the last book with the David Bowie Poster.
The mix of Labyrinth references and Faerie folklore.
If you read the first and enjoyed it, you’ll certainly be entertained by this one. Personally, I liked this one better, because I am a big fan of Faerie Lore and there were more Fae in this one. You could read this book on its own, because I believe the important bits from the previous book are explained, but I recommend reading the first in the series before Underground.

Under Ground is the second book in the Liminal Spaces series by Laurie Neilsen. When her brother goes missing, Alice takes a train to New York to search for him. Together with her Fae friends and brothers partner, she goes on a dangerous quest to find her brother even if that means facing down evil Fae. Will they find him and make it out alive?
Under Ground is a great sequel that takes of right where the first book ended. I really like the world building in this series with the human world and Faerie coexisting and the Liminal Spaces that connect them. The characters are interesting and I love the queerness in these books! All in all its a suspenseful easy read and I can recommend it to all urban fantasy lovers that want something new!
