Legacy Ascended: A Reverse Harem Shifter Academy Romance

Rate this book
I finally know who I am.

Apparently, so do the people who kidnapped me.

They call me the Fourth House heir. And they insist they didn't take me—they brought me home where I belong.

There's just one problem.

I don't know if I believe them.

For nearly three hundred years, the Fourth House has been blamed for the Great Betrayal that destroyed my family and changed the shifter world forever. Now I have the chance to find out what really happened.

If only my love life were any less complicated.

Luke, Torres, and Soren are mine. Three mates. Three bonds.

And then there's Ander. The infuriating third prince I never planned to want. Is he really mine too?

And Professor Matthias?

Still my professor. Still forbidden.

Unfortunately, neither of those things is making me want him any less.

While I try to figure out how many men fate plans to throw at me, I'm digging into the history of the Fourth House for myself.

And what I find isn't the proof I expected.

I don't know yet whether my family was innocent.

But I'm beginning to wonder if that was ever the question I should have been asking.

Because someone wanted the Fourth House gone.

They almost succeeded.

But I'm still here.

Legacy Ascended is Book Three in the Luftis Academy series, a spicy paranormal why-choose romance featuring fated mates, royal wolf shifters, forbidden professor tension, found family, academy life, buried secrets, and a heroine claiming the legacy everyone thought was lost.

Jaye Marellen has always believed Belle should have stayed with the Beast—because let’s be honest, the grumpy guy with claws was the best part of the story. She writes romances full of banter, heat, and a little bit of magic, where happily-ever-after doesn’t mean sanding off the rough edges. When she’s not dreaming up growly heroes and the women bold enough to love them, you’ll find her reading spicy stories, sipping too much coffee, and rooting for love stories with a twist.

Three stars. I got bored while reading this so the last half of the book or so felt like a chore to finish. Lost its pace. Otherwise it was alright. The first two books were way better. Not nearly as slow and just better written.

could have been better

I felt like this book was filled with very little new material. I was ready for it to end. I struggled to get through it and I even skipped whole chapters. I was ready for all the bonds to be sealed and the story to end.

5 stars for entertainment
2.5 stars for writing

I'm gonna leave my review for the first three books here because my general comments are pretty consistent across the books that have been published in this series so far. I had a great time reading this book. The plot was entertaining, I enjoy the characters and their personalities, and I always love a good shifter romance. However I do have several complaints as well. During each and every one of the spicy scenes, I couldn't help but feel that the writing felt rushed. In addition, it felt like a lot of summarizing was happening instead of description, so much so, that it felt like nothing was actually being said. My personal opinion on spicy scenes in books is that they should either be fade to black or in explicit detail to the point that if you were to read them out loud in public you'd be arrested for public indecency. Taking a stance in between always ends up feeling like the writing was insufficient and often times leaves me confused about what's going where and who's doing what. Which is exactly what happened here.

Furthermore, I can't help but feel that the relationships that Jessica is part of felt unequally developed. Now, I understand that due to the timing of when each guy in the group realized that he was part of the mating bond and then accepted it, that is bound to happen. But it almost felt as if Jessica had favorites within the group rather than it being a timing issue. I'm hoping that this will be resolved when book 4 comes out.

My absolute favorite part of this series is the friendship between Jessica, Freya, and Sophia. I love that the FMC's romantic relationships don't detract from her friendships, which often happens in romance novels. I would also like to state that I would literally die for Freya she is literally perfect, and in my opinion, the best character in the series. If a series were written about her next, I would devour it the way a starving person would devour food (this is me kindly requesting a Freya series).

Good

Picking up from the cliffhanger ending in book two, we see THAT situation quickly resolved before Jessica and co. are dealing with some new things that came to light.
Well. That was a bit of a surprise ending! It certainly has me on the edge of my seat, although I consider this a considerably kinder ending than that of book three.
I also have thoughts, none of which I can put into this review, due to the simple fact that they would count as a spoiler. I will say I don’t think it changes much for Jessica, considering what she wants in the world, however, some relevant things were revealed in the book that might actually influence what we see happen next. I will just leave it there though, and finish with the fact that I am all agog to know what will happen in the next book, and I hope it comes quickly!

This is book 3 of the series so far, and it definitely contains a lot more steam than most of the others. It’s still fast paced, but the action here is more of the mental variety- Jessica and her mates have to play a fast game of politics, as they deal with numerous revelations and repercussions from both those games and other events throughout the books so far.
There is a fascinating mystery that is slowly being unravelled, and I’m enjoying the discovery process.
An entertaining and enthralling RH Academy fantasy, with a side of mystery, for those who enjoy mixing their genres up a little.

Legacy ascended

Review for the first three books, the fourth isn't out yet. This series seems to be an offshoot of her previous series, but I only read her first one and found this one easy to read without it. After moving to England from the US our 22 year old heroine receives a strange invitation to an all expense paid academy. During her orientation she meets a group of similar students who all form an endearing and supportive friendship group. It turns out they are all latent wolf shifters and are stunned, but face their learning enthusiastically. After a long year of study she finally shifts into her wolf, but it's actually a rare dire wolf whose family line was wiped out 275 years ago during a civil war. This presents lots of politics and mysteries that form the under plot. Then she develops fated mate bonds with several princes, and others, which adds to the drama and adventure. It's a pretty good story and I read all three at once. I had a hard time with the staccato dialogue throughout the story. Also the romance is contrived and flows unnaturally. I still enjoyed it and await the next book.

This third book (there’s one more that’s NYP) is basically filler, which is weird, because the first two rush along at a breakneck pace. The first two are so quick-moving that we spend two school years with Jessica and there are maybe fifteen characters we meet that are beyond Jessica’s inner circle of found family.

This book, tho, has the opposite problem. It gets bogged down in the minutiae of archives research, and all of the hectic energy from the first two books nearly dissipates.

I’m still invested, just confused.

Ai

Repetetive AI writing. I would have really enjoyed this plot and these characters if they gad been given the soul, emotions and ability to think lile an actual human being. The standard conversation is :
Not this, not that, this.

Still absolutely riveting

Very enjoyable story that keeps you turning pages to see what happens next. Must say the twist was unexpected and will only have to wait a month to find out how the plot progresses.
