Some rivers were never meant to run...

And as former Philly Police Detective Jon Bones Sullivan stood on the rusty shores of the Schuylkill River in North Philly, he thought about a little boy. Unknown and unnamed, and found face down in the murky waters of the Schuylkill in the late winter of 2025, less than a mile from the home where Bones was beaten and battered by the patriarch as a child.

Would Bones find the courage he lacked to return home and find the boy’s killer? First, he would have to abandon his relationship with a broken woman in Montreal and return to a place that had always haunted him… his home. There, he would find that nothing had changed and would need to seek and destroy another monster before avenging a little boy’s death.

Along the way, Bones would be reminded that he is a Have-Not, and would have to face a world of Haves, and somehow find his place.

Pulling back the slide on his former, dead partner’s Smith & Wesson M&P, Bones’ resolute eyes would once again narrow, and he would face his fear and yet another monster, just not the kind he was used to finding on the mean streets of North Philly.

The characters are what kept me turning pages. Bones is haunted and gruff but tender where it counts. Julia Riley brings a sharp mind and a welcome lightness, and Mo Cheeks steals every scene he's in and gives real comic relief. Rittenhouse makes a villain you love to hate, smug and quotable to the end. But this reader feels the heart of the book belongs to Kellen and little Autumn. Their story gives the novel its biggest emotional payoff, and the regatta finale, when Autumn finally finds her voice, is one I won't soon forget.

The book isn't just a whodunit. It's about fathers and sons, the damage the powerful do to protect their own, and the families people build when their own ones fail them. It's a heartfelt, atmospheric thriller with a strong setting and real emotional payoffs.

Keep them coming Michael!

Please excuse the review of my own book, but it's the only way I can thank you for giving it a chance. The book took nearly five months to write and edit, and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Writing is a journey that an author goes on with not only his/her fictional characters, but also their family and loved ones. Everyone contributes, and I'd like to thank my imagination and those around me in real life who support and encourage me. Please leave a review on Amazon, too. Reviews are the lifeblood of any writer, particularly Indie authors like me. Thank you again for giving me the chance to entertain you. If you like Copper, go back and start the series from book one: Old Man Winter - Heavenly Gates. Warm regards, Michael Cook
