Remarkable book on time that I found in a used bookstore in Arizona. Written in the late 1920’s it has a freshness about the debates on time you do not find in current publications. If you are a graduate student working on researching time, this book is a great source for not only the lit review of papers, lectures, and books that were important during this period, but Gunn also goes through every major philosophical contributor and analyzes their conception of time and the effects on their philosophy. Even though this book is close to 100 years old the debates inside are still relevant which says something. Gunn's focus on time in each major philosophical thinker is something I have not come across elsewhere.
Gunn wrote two books on Bergson, and brings a refreshingly critical approach to Bergsonism I have not come across and found incredibly helpful. Gunn is fair and thorough and agrees with Bergson on many points and disagrees on some bringing nuance to the discussion I have not read before.
