Alexis Jergenson, a former attorney, flees her painful past and unsettling law career to teach at a small Christian college. But she’s not the only one running. Luke Stephens is fleeing the effects of the Afghanistan War and a failed marriage, and the last thing he wants is another pretty woman in his life. Haunted by their pasts, they’re both seeking new lives. However, when one of their students is assaulted, they find themselves allies in a fight for her life. I love suspense books and this book met my expectations from the first word to last. Alexis's and Luke drew me into the book with their stories and Jessica's plight pulled me through. The issue of rape was dealt with in a sensitive manner As always I a pleased with a book that shows God's love and redemption. I look forward to the next book in the series.
This is a beautiful story about two people who find comfort with each other. There are a few different plots going on, one about a Bible professor who has injuries from war. Another two plots involve sexual assault survivors. The stories could be extremely heavy, but I never felt that way as I read. There were a lot of happy moments. It was hopeful and positive for the most part. It shows people who fight back within the legal system and, when necessary, taking on their attackers physically.
The book also shows how NOT to handle dating a non Christian. The book honestly shows difficulties Christians have balancing love with convictions, and it doesn’t always show them handling things well. Personal feelings get in the way keeping them from being Christlike.
The book deals with difficult things in an honest but hopeful manner. Most readers who like stories about relationships within the context of Christian community along with an exciting plot will enjoy this book.
Enjoyed being with this author again. Luke and Alexis story was very interesting. Their first meeting was unexpected. Their second meeting brought them closer together. Both had things in their pasts to lay down. All that was accomplished as they were together. Their love for each other grew too. Helping Jessica and Luke example brought Alexis to Christ. Luke began to care for Alexis. But she had put barriers around herself as far as men go. But Luke was able to break them down. Max the horse and Farley the dog made the store special. Max helped by causing his owner to fall for Alexis. So happy to see John and Sharee in the story. Hope to hear in other books how Luke and Alexis are doing. Will read more by this author.
I have never read a book by this author, but wow, she is such a fantastic writer!
Both Alexis and Jessica had horrific trauma to deal with and it was hard to read, but Ms Rodante dealt with the trauma scenes and memories with care. Luke had his own secrets and trauma too and the story just kept building - so, so good!. The character development was tight with great suspense included.
This was such a beautiful story of finding faith and forgiveness and the journey to wholeness and love. I have several pages highlighted with some wonderful passages that really speak to the Christian life and struggles. My only complaint is that I didn’t want it to end and wished for an epilogue at least.
Alexis attempts to help a girl who's been raped, while at the same time struggles with a relationship with Luke.
The reader had a "behind the scenes" look at what happens when a violation happens. It's horrible.
There are action moments, tense scenes, and an exciting ending. I loved it!
What I love about this book is a couple of things. First, the truths of the Bible are lived in real time. Second, it demonstrates the struggles of both Christians and non-Christians alike.
We are at war with the forces of evil. An enemy wants to destroy our very soul. Truth liberates when light shines. "Looking for Justice" shined the light of truth.
I enjoyed reading this book. Alexis is an unbeliever, a lawyer who, due to an urgent situation, was persuaded to teach law in a small Christian college without divulging the fact she was not a Christian. Yes, that situation was a bit implausible. Luke, though divorced, also teaches at the college. Alexis bears the wounds of a past abusive relationship. Luke bears the scars of war and a marriage gone wrong. Together they work to protect a girl at the college that has been raped by her mother's boyfriend. Coincidence plays a strong role in this book, but it's a good read anyway, in spite of some warning signs in their relationship.
When attorney Alexis takes a last minute offer to teach pre-law courses at a Christian college in Tenn., it was just what she needed to heal. Or so she thought. Number one, she was a victim of rape and an advocate for abused women in Atlanta, Georgia. 2. She didn't consider herself a Christian. She didn't expect to meet recently divorced wounded warrior fellow professor Luke who taught bible classes. However, circumstances involving a dual student brought them together to rescue her. Book details sensitive issues, however, could it bring together than tear them apart? Better yet, did God intervene to save their lives? A Christian book that deals with real issues of society.
Enjoyed this story where Alexis wrestles with the idea of God being good and the evil that is rampant. And she can’t seem to escape the evil both in what was suffered in her past, then in her career as a prosecutor or even when she leaves that job to teach at a Christian college where she meets a young girl who is being abused. This book very artfully deals with topics like rape and the evil in the world. Recommend this book
Alexis Jergenson, former attorney, takes a job at a small Christian college in Tennessee despite not being a Christian herself. Former war veteran Luke Stephens, who is also a professor but very wary of women due to his unfaithful ex wife teams up with her to help a student was raped by her mothers boyfriend. Their association turns into love despite each not trusting at first. An intense, fairly well written story with a feel good ending.
Alexis ends up teaching at a Christian college (the same college Luke teaches at) without divulging she isn't a Christian. She wrestles with spiritual questions such as understanding the concept of good and evil and that God is real. Alexis and Luke help a student Jessica who was raped. The author did a great job handling this topic without going into details. This story also had suspense and tense moments.
A good read. As a lawyer, Alexis fought for women's right for justice. She left her job to become a professor at a Christian college to escape the system. Luke, who is a Christian, began falling in love with Alexis until she told him she was not a Christian. It took a student to help Alexis become one with God, who kept them safe from a man who wanted to kill them.
Linda wrote a compelling story that grips your heart. The story takes you into the world of Alexis where running from tragedy, she finds herself facing her fears and learning to trust. She looks evil in the eye and tries to justify a world where a good God would allow evil to exist. I love the way the author weaves the Truth of God's love into the pages.
I put off reading this book for a long time because of the cover. That was a pity because the inside story is worth reading. The writing keeps you reading and it is a realistic kind of story which shines a light on issues that people struggle with. Linda writes well with no jarring out of the story. Well proofread, edited ...
Alexis was a burnt out prosecutor. She thought she had been after justice for every victim that crossed her path. She ended up at a Christian college to teach law.Luke was a professor on the same floor. He thought he liked her but was out off when he discovered that she wasn't a believer.
I definitely recommend this book. I look forward to reading more by Linda K. Rodante. I hated to see the book end - the characters were life like and this book was well-written.
This is a well written story that covers the difficult topics of abuse and rape. On the surface it doesn't sound like a book that I would enjoy, but it is very well done, and I am glad I took a the chance and read it.
I have to say when I began reading this series not only was I surprised but I was inspired. A lot of Christian fiction gloss over the personal relationship with Jesus Christ. These books do anything but that. A new fan!
Such underxurrent of real life issues and burdens brought under grace.
Loved so much in this book. Linda thank you for dealing with a hard topic with such grace of realism in the struggles to bring about justice for victims. Loved how you shared the salvation journey.
What I liked about Looking for Justice was that it was real. Life is all its ups and downs the good and the bad. God is there in this story and ours. This book reminds us of that.
Alexis has a long way to go in getting over her past and realizing that all men are not bad. She needs to learn who God is and that she is really never alone.
