I hated Deke!!
I read this for a quick fun read but was disgusted with how cruel this ass was to the h! He was a drunk 40 something year old manho that said some of the most awful things to the h. I wish she would’ve dated the manager instead and left Deke to wallow in his self pity…
I haven’t read JK in awhile, I don’t remember ever disliking one of her H so much…they are usually instalove OTT…or so I thought. This guy was definitely OTT😒

Usually, I like Jessa Kane's books because they are delicious and dirty quick reads. This is the first book from her that I've ever added to my DNF pile.
This was so coded to that ridiculous movie that's been remade 100 times over - the last being with Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper (I'm not a fan of either of them). I can't remember the movie's name.
Regardless, this book is just ick 100%. The author usually does better than this, but for this book, I do not recommend.

He calls her mean, demeaning names. He tells her she needs to be faithful to him while he “figures things out” and he’s “not her boyfriend.” The dirty talk is cringey. This is very off-brand for Jessa Kane. ☹️

Short, fun read. My biggest issue was that Deke was described so haggard and washed up that I had a hard time reading some of the scenes and not picturing like an old alcoholic homeless man.

This is the first jessa kane book that I absolutely loathe. What's up with her & recently creating insufferable asshole mmcs who're emotionally and verbally abusive manwhores? Her books were my comfort space always with guarantee of mmcs who are absolutely obessesed with fmcs, with over the top love gestures and delicious smut scenes. But I'm not sure what has happened but it has sucked all the fun of her books.

I really loved this one!!! The chemistry between June and Deke? HOT!!!
I absolutely loved June's charming personality. Despite Deke's grumpy and closed-off attitude at first, she never let him intimidate her. She simply kept doing her job and remained professional, even though she'd had a crush on him for a long time.
Deke is a grumpy man who's lost his spark for music, just going through the motions out of obligation and drowning himself in alcohol. So when his manager's niece shows up, way too young and way too cheerful, he's not at all happy about having her around, especially when they have to start singing together for three days on his tour.
I absolutely loved their dynamic! The way June always puts Deke in his place, tells him exactly what she thinks, and never holds back or stays quiet. And Deke, who was so grumpy at first because he didn't want her there, eventually realizes just how much he needed her in his life. He'd lost his love for life, for music, and for everything around him, and June comes along and makes it all feel meaningful again, giving him a sense of purpose he didn't even realize he'd lost.

She was only meant to be there three days. Her job was to make sure she got him on stage, ready to sing and don't get fired. Deke had been her idol growing up. A father figure and a dream come true that eventually blurred the lines as she became a young woman. Right now, she was focused on not making a fool out of herself...but that was hard to do when her hero turns out to be a crude drunk.
Deke does not want her there. She was too young. He couldn't be craving her. She was too much and he just wanted more of her body and soul. A woman that got him to love singing again in a world of judgement and pressure, to step away from the shadows and say words he promised he never would again.
The shouldn't break, but are they ready for the consequences if they do?
Love how June had a bit more back bone when it came to Deke, pushing him to get up and be the man she wanted him to be again, and challenged him whenever she could. Of course, we have the impulsiveness and intense desier that we love between Jessa's characters that make it all so hot and heavy. Another thumbs up!

Is someone else writing under Jessa Kane? This was dog shit. I read Kane for the OTT obsessed hero’s who would kill themselves without the heroine. Not this…jackass manho who is SO mean to her and right up until the end says he doesn’t know if he even wants to be her boyfriend.
She was so pathetic. Happily lapping up him telling her he expects her to promise to be faithful to him but he’s not making any promises to her with a stupid smile on her doormat face. He treats her like utter shit and says horrible things that she immediately forgives when he barely apologizes. More than half the book is him hurting her over and over again and her saying “yes daddy, let me have more of your horrible treatment.”

Yet again I’m rendered speechless by Jessa Kanes writing. I wish more than anything I’d spaced her books out more because I’ve read everything by her and now I’m miserable. I loved everything about this new release and am so impressed with each new story and world she creates with so little pages. But it just works so perfectly. I will never not read something she releases. The insta obsession and lust, the kink, the love that grips you in less than a chapter. It really is witchcraft and I’m always overjoyed for more!💙

I love almost everything Jessa writes, their quick and fun. This story started out so good, I loved the premise of the storyline. After the first spicy scene it felt very forced and I didn’t connect so much. I enjoyed the characters a lot especially June! Over all for a novella it was fun!
