The town of Oakwell is no more: an abandoned and overgrown relic left in the wake of the massacre at Hope House. When Emma Barrett discovers the secret to Hope House, the evil responds by awakening the deranged Henry Marshall from his catatonic state.
As Emma gathers around her those who can bring an end to the Gogoku curse, a brutal game of cat and mouse begins. Everything is at stake as the Whisper story reaches its epic conclusion. Blood will be spilled, sacrifices will be made, and redemption will be sought as the survivors of the Oakwell curse go head to head with the malevolent forces which have scourged the lands for centuries…
Michael Bray is a bestselling author/screenwriter of more than twelve novels and numerous short stories. Influenced from an early age by the suspense horror of authors such as Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Shaun Hutson, James Herbert & Brian Lumley, along with TV shows like Tales from the Crypt & The Twilight Zone, his work touches on the psychological side of horror, teasing the reader’s nerves and willing them to keep turning the pages. Several of his titles have been translated into multiple languages including a major bookstore distribution deal in Japan and his biggest selling title, Whisper, has, on numerous occasions topped the overall horror charts for Amazon titles in both the UK and US with thousands of copies sold.
His work has been featured in anthologies alongside such horror greats as Clive Barker, Adam Nevill, Shaun Hutson, Brian Lumley, Paul Tremblay, Ramsay Campbell, Ray Bradbury and many others and he continues to be an active and popular member of the horror/suspense genre.
A feature film written by Bray based on his co-written novel MONSTER starring Tracy Shaw (Coronation Street), Daniele Harold (East Enders) & Rod Glenn (American Assassin / World War Z) was shot in January 2018 whilst another of his titles, MEAT is currently with a leading Los Angeles based production company with a view to production in 2019.
I received an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review. This is in no way reflected in my opinion of this book.
I have been following the Whispers trilogy from the beginning and can honestly say that Michael Bray is a phenomenal writer. His characters are believable and his atmospheric descriptions leave you wondering if that was really the wind you just heard. You will find rapey psychos, native ghosts, and a cursed forest within the pages of these books. Voices is a terrifyingly terrific end to this trilogy. All the lose ends from the first two books are tied up as Melody and her son, Isaac come full circle to where the horror all began. We even get to find out what had trapped the souls of the Gogoku and all those lost in Hope House and the cursed clearing. While I'm sad to see this series end, I can't wait to see what Michael Bray does next! A fast paced and scary 4.5 star read.
There are really no words that can describe this trilogy. It was by far the best trilogy I have ever read. From the very first book I was pulled in and couldn't wait to get to the end to read the next one. These books had everything, paranormal horror, gory horror, emotional horror. I cried, I was terrified..... my recommendation is to start with the first book and read all three. I promise you won't be disappointed. Michael bray is a fantastic storyteller and after this I cannot wait to read everything else he has written.
Voices, is the third and final book in the Whisper series. After the massacre at Hope House, the town of Oakwell, is abandoned. There is still evil in the woods, that surround Hope House. Emma Barrett, discovers the secret of Hope House and it's evil curse. Emma gathers all the people who can help her put an end to this evil. Voices awaken the deranged Henry Marshall from a coma. Marshall escape from the insane asylum and is headed back to his home town of Oakwell. There will be plenty of blood spilled and sacrifices will be made. The survivors of Oakwell, hope to seek revenge against Marshall and the Gogoku. Bray, did an excellent job developing his characters and this added to the story line. The final book brought everything together from the first two. This was a good conclusion to a very good story. I plan to checkout other works by this author. I recommend the Whisper trilogy.
I really liked this last book of the trilogy. It brought everything from the first 2 books together nicely and he is right not to extend it to another book. It just went be the same. I love ghost stories and this one went a step further with evil that started centuries ago. If you like this type of book, read this but start with the first. You won't be sorry.
Though not quite as good (in my opinion) as the two preceding books this was still an enthralling tale. It was both creepy and gripping in equal measure. Yes, the trilogy was all wrapped up but, sometimes, I prefer a more ambiguous ending. Very enjoyable though.
I love this series. It's the first series I've read in which I was truly looking forward to reading the next part. What I love also is while each book continues an overall story, all of the books are very much a self contained chapter. There's no cliff hanger gimmicks to make to buy the next book. What makes you buy the next book is fantastic storytelling and an impeccable ability for Michael Bray to build imagery in your mind. Some of it quite horrific. Every one of these books had elements that really got into my head. This final piece of the puzzle brings everything to a satisfying and well crafted conclusion. It scared me, upset me, shocked me, made me laugh and made me shed man tears (these are the type we feel but refuse to let spill - it's a thing). These are the first books I've read by Michael, and he's probably the first author that I've come across that makes me want to actively seek out more of his books. Only "It" by Stephen King has held my attention and awe to the level these books have. God! Does this mean I've become a fan of an Author? I think it does.
I'm not going to ruin this for those still to embark on the Whisper Trilogy. Book three follows on seven years after the events at Hope House Hotel. Unresolved issues draw those that survived back to Oakwell, or the voices do. Supernaturally chilling, hauntingly sad and at times bloody gruesome, this is a fitting finale to a wonderfully written trilogy. The characters are strongly defined and the events carefully scripted to mesh together a multiple-layer tale that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the final, chilling showdown.
This book, and the previous novels in this collection, are a must read for those who enjoy supernatural horror. Michael Bray deserves all the plaudits he received for these books. Just read them!
I would have given this a 5 star rating if the “monster” had been given a history. This was a fast read and very entertaining but I prefer stories with closure— you know- no loose ends!!
Ok so the first two books in the series were great and I had compared them to Richard Laymon but as the story carried on to book three I can see a change into another favorite of mine, Bentley Little. This was a fabulous conclusion to an amazing series. Tied up all loose ends. Terrifying and depressing and uplifting. A reminder that perhaps in a life-threatening situation even a jerk is capable of sacrifice for the greater good. That we are able to reach beyond what we believe to be true, what we are comfortable with and see the secrets that lie just beneath the surface, both good and bad, and use that knowledge to make the tough choices. The choices that make all the difference between good and evil even at great cost to ourselves. Truly loved this series and am greatly impressed with way this concluding book was handled. It held true to the core of the story and gave us new champions in both familiar and new characters. Recommend to fans of the Beast House Chronicles and anything Bentley Little and Stephen King writing as Richard Bachman.
Wow! What a way to finish a Trilogy! This whole series has rocked and scared the crapper out of me. It was very well written and flowed with a very steady pace that I found a pleasure to read.. Very vividly described, I could smell Petrov at the end..Yuk.. Henry Marshall..what can I say about a vile character, he was brilliantly written, Loved to hate him! I will miss this series, I must say I would have liked there to have been more in the series, but I loved how the author finished it..very classy.. Highly recommend to all who love a good fright!!
I'm trying hard not to write "holy sh*t this was good" for all the books in this series, but it's hard not to. This 3rd book in the series ended with a bang. I was invested in some of the characters and loved the creepy atmosphere of the forest. Creepy/ atmospheric is one of the things I look for in a story and this hit the spot, over and over again. great books. One of the authors I will now seek out.
I think all three books the story is amazing...We still however don't know where the bad people came from. I would like to know more about the bad people and why they turned out the way they were
