After the devastating hurricane that attacked Port Provident Pete has decided to not re-open his medical office but instead pursue his dream of helping overseas. Until that happens he agrees to help Angela help those in the community who need it the most but he wasn’t prepared for the feelings he would develop for her and her daughter.

Angela is a single mother who chooses to serve the island’s residents as their councilman. With so many experiencing such difficulties she isn’t about to stand by without offering assistance in every way she can but getting involved with a man who is planning on leaving is a complication she doesn’t need.

This is an inspiring story about the importance of love, family and community which is sure to touch your heart.

I really do love Kristen Etheridge’s Port Provident series. I love the characters and storylines as the people pull in together in the rebuilding of their community after a devastating hurricane. This book, The Doctor’s Unexpected Family, was especially sweet as we see Port Provident’s only doctor, Pete Shipley and local city councilwoman, Angela Ruiz, team up to bring medical care and restoration back to the citizens.
I loved the idea of The Grace Space, a community bank of sorts where people came together to replenish and rebuild. Need a book get away? Try Port Providence!
I received an e-copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I honestly loved it!

I have enjoyed reading several of Kristen Ethridge's books and this was no exception. The Doctor's Unexpected Family is both part of the Port Provident: Hurricane Hope series and a stand alone book. It was a great book about hope. The Doctor's Unexpected Family deals with the aftermath of the hurricane and rebuilding lives. Kristen lived through Hurricane Ike and brings her personal observations and perhaps her experiences to this story. Her characters and story are believable. While it is a Christian story, it is not preachy and deals with personal faith.

I read this book after Second Chance Sweethearts which is not technically part of this series since it's a Love Inspired book. However, it also is also about Hurricane Hope. I accidentally read it before Port Provident: Hurricane Hope Book 1 Shelter from the Storm but there was nothing I didn't understand or that didn't make sense.

Sweet romance with inspirational leanings. It's one of Ethridge's "Hurricane Hope" books based on Hurricane Ike, which we both lived through. And goodness but it takes me back. The romance is a sweet one, with some real angst, but things that are handled by reasonable people who behave in a sensible, sensitive manner. Honestly, I spent most of my time remembering the blocks-long, 20-foot high piles of trash that piled up in the designated places, one of them just as the freeway dumps out onto the island's main street. And remembering the Grace Space.. Ethridge has a note at the end of the book about how The Grace Space in the story is modeled after the space at First Baptist Church of Galveston after Hurricane Ike. We were not members at FBCG at that time, and ours was one of the few houses on the island that didn't flood, so we didn't lose anything to need to replace it, but I still remember how the church opened up to the locals in need. How everyone did. The Muslim mosque on the east end fed people, as did the Texas Baptist Men, who set up in the FBC parking lot. Memories. This book has a sweet romance, and it gives you a realistic look at the aftermath of a hurricane. I liked it a whole lot.

We are back in Port Provident, Texas. This time after in the aftermath of hurricane Hope.
Lives are changed forever, material losses are monumental, but City Councilwoman, and single Mom , Angela Ruiz, is determined to do whatever she can to take care of her community and help everyone re-build their lives. In the midst of all this, a friendship develops between her and Dr. Pete Shipley. A man that has not allowed his heart to get involved in Port Provident, and is now waiting for his papers to work in a mission outside of the United States . As he waits for the orders to leave, he too wants to help the community.
These two are a bit hard to embrace . Maybe because they are trying to protect their hearts.
That said, it’s a Christian story about hope , overcoming obstacles, and opening one’s heart . As well about the love and strength of those around you. Quoting the author , “you can never have too many people in your life who care about you”.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Dr. Pete Shipley survives Hurricane Hope, but his clinic did not. The building was badly damaged during the storm. He has decided instead of rebuilding, he will pursue his dream of being a medical missionary. He will use his last few weeks on the island to tie up loose ends and sell his home. Then he meets Angela and he daughter unexpectedly. His growing attachment to them throws a huge curve in his plans.

This is the second book in the Hurricane Hope series, but it can definitely be read as a stand alone. Of course, you will not want to do that because then you would miss out on another great read, Shelter from the Storm. This book is every bit as great as the first book in the series. It is refreshingly clean and very uplifting and inspirational. It is great to read about a community that pulls together to overcome a great obstacle. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good clean romance.

Welcome to (or back to) Port Provident, Texas, post Hurricane Hope where the residents continue to find strength in friendship and community as they face the challenges of moving forward and restoring some sort of stability to their lives in this heartwarming second book in the Port Provident: Hurricane Hope series. Although it is part of a series, this book works well as a stand-alone. This easy-to-read, uplifting story of hope, renewed faith, and love caught my attention at the dramatic beginning and held it to the satisfying end. The characters are well-crafted and credible, and the plot flows smoothly at a steady pace. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next one in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but am under no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

THE DOCTOR’S UNEXPECTED FAMILY. By Kristen Eldridge
Gloria was the connection, knowing everyone in Port ProvidentDr.Pete has been here five years, taking over the clinic his aunt and uncle had. Knowing few made people, made lonely days for him, plans to close and destroyed now, and join the Mercy Medical Mission team. Council woman Angela.over extends herself, to hold the town together, and having time for her daughter. Plot that will warm your heart, as people come together after a disaster. New doors were open for Pete with The.Grace Space. A little girl that opened his heart with her love, telling him you can never have enough people who love you. Given ARC for my honest opinion and my voluntary review.

This series has been hard for me. I’ve seen up close and personal the results of a hurricane and Kristen Ethridge has shown perfectly the lows and highs of the aftermath. Angela Ruiz takes her commitment as a city councilperson for the one of the more needy areas of Port Provident, as a single mom to Celina, and to help with her family’s business completely to heart. To the point of neglecting her own health. Since the hurricane Dr. Pete Shipley has been marking time until he starts his employment with Mercy Medical Mission and leaves for a foreign country. Hurricane Hope makes adjustments to everyone’s plans and hopes. I look forward to see what is planned next for Port Provident.

This is a lovely story, a second chance romance of sorts, that captures your attention from the opening scene and keeps you engaged until the sweet ending. The characters are multi-layered, likable and strong-willed. The dialogue is fresh. And you can tell that the author did her homework to make true-to-real-life the roles of characters who are reporters, city council members and doctors. The storytelling style was smooth and heartfelt. Bravo to the author for weaving this beautiful tale!

*The author provided me (Alexis A. Goring) with a complimentary copy of his book "The Doctor's Unexpected Family." My opinions in this book review are my own.

The Doctor's Unexpected Family is an awesome romance set against a hurricane's aftermath! This well written story grab my interest from the first page and kept me reading far into the night. Ms. Ethridge does an awesome job of portraying life without any of the daily necessities. Angela, a congresswoman, and Pete, a doctor help the residents of Angela's district obtain medical care and a place to live. This book is a fascinating look at how individuals can improve life for many. I have read it twice because it is so inspiring.

I love the Hurricane Hope series. Reading Pete and Angela's story of hope and survival made you really think about how devastation can change people's lives. Rebuilding after a storm can be difficult but when you have a community like Port Provident, hope took property and left lives changed. Community can help rebuilt lives, business, and towns. Port Provident is a great community of strength. Cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

I've enjoyed this book so much that this is my second time to read it. I was gripped by all of the challenges facing the main characters--challenges presented by rebuilding after a devastating hurricane as well as the challenges that came as a result of personal tragedy. For all of the tension caused by their circumstances, the characters are meeting them with hope and growing as people. I loved the romantic love story as well. Highly recommend!

You can never have too much love!
When Hurricane Hope hit Port Provident, it did so with the strength that no one could have imagined. With everything wiped out, it was time to come together as a community and rebuild.
Great story of learning to love and love a second time.
Nicely done, Kristen Ethridge.

The premise of the story is all right but this book drags out and I got really tired of the theme of "been hurt by others not going there again" even though it is supposed to be a Christian story of love, forgiveness and starting over.

Great

A well written book readable for everyone. No sex scenes, but lots of love for both people and animals. I cannot wait until my granddaughter is old enough to understand the lovely life lessons demonstrated in this author's books

This is another enjoyable read in this series. Pete and Angela are great characters who meet when they least expect it. They force each other to learn a lot about themselves and grow as people. The future doesn't always play out like you planned. Quite often it's even better.

Wonderful!

Pete is a doctor with his future all planned. Angela is a city council member always running from meeting to meeting. Hurricane Hope sweeps through their town and brings them together for a future that neither of them anticipated!

Dr. Pete Shipley is a charismatic and charming physician, but he’s closed his heart to the idea of ever falling in love. Even years after the death of his beloved fiancé, Pete still can’t imagine himself loving another woman again.

Meanwhile, City Counselwoman, Angela Ruiz has plenty of issues going on in her life as well. She’s a single mom to adorable Celina, and she’s struggling to help her Port Provident, Texas community rebuild after a devastating and destructive hurricane. Angela is far too busy to even think about romance…until Dr. Shipley comes into her life.

To be perfectly honest, I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this book nearly as much as I did. Although I do appreciate an inspirational romance novel every now and then, it’s a difficult genre to pull off without coming across as overly preachy, or even cheesy and sappy. However, Ms. Ethridge has woven a truly lovely and touching tale of hope, faith and love. Her characters are so well-developed and likable, I found myself genuinely caring about how things turned out for them. “The Doctor’s Unexpected Family” is a story that has the ability to speak to the reader’s heart. There are several uplifting and inspiring passages that incorporate sincere faith-based undertones that are really very moving and poignant. The encouraging concept that people often come into your life at the very moment you truly need them is at the heart of this wonderful book. I absolutely loved “The Doctor’s Unexpected Family” and would recommend it highly!

I love this story and the whole series because it is so much more than a romance story. It is about hope and the rebuilding of lives that were destroyed from a hurricane. While a towns physical building can be destroyed through a natural disaster its spirit cannot be if the right people step up to rebuild. This is the theme that comes through so well in the series and this particular story shows how second chances are possible for everyone.

After the Hurricane

Angela has been working for the citizens of Port Provident for years already. However, this hurricane did so much destruction to their island. Where to even begin! In the meantime, Dr. Pete Shipley noticed Angela's color as well as the sweat beginning to form on her face. He realized she was going into a sugar low. He still had his doctor's bag, some medical gadgets that weathered the storm. The City Council lady needed his help Now. As he treated her, something passed between them. But it could't be as the love of his life died of cancer years ago. With her death behind him, romance was gone. Anna had been his best friend and his world, but he couldn't even help save her life. Then because of her diabetes being unstable, he invited Angela and Celine to stay with him in his home on stilts. A good beginning, but you really need to read the sweeg story!

I picked this book up from Amazon when I saw the cover. I don't know why, but it really drew me to it. This is a touching story of two people who have weathered the storm, but are still facing a battle. I was really touched by this story. Most of us when we hear about a disaster we will listen to details, but to be honest we truly have no clue what people endure that are actually going through it. This book shows the strength a person can show when placed in a difficult situation. Of course there's a little romance thrown in that will warm your heart. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a very sweet story.

The Doctor's Unexpected Family by Kristen Ethridge is Book 2 in the Port Provident: Hurricane Hope Series. While this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.

This is my first time reading Ms. Ethridge’s work and I wasn’t disappointed. What a wonderful story of love, faith, hope and second chances that is clean and just tugs at your heart strings. Totally enjoyed this story.

Please note that an ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which this is both honest and completely voluntary.
