This is another well written enjoyable Baxter Academy story. The book isn’t a formulaic romance, it has a few twists that keep you reading. Also both main characters have medical conditions, which are dealt with really well. I hope there are more novels to come in the series
At first I didn’t know if I wanted to read this story, because of the questioning of a school that helps young adults. But I forged on and I’m glad I did.
When I first started reading this book, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I read romance all day every day, and I have to admit… I LOVED this plot. In Between the Lines, we get to meet Gabe and Ellen. Gabe gets an injury that ruins his chances for pro football and Ellen is a journalist/blogger who will do anything to get the scoop she needs. Gabe becomes an English teacher at a private high school that is so private that he has to sign an agreement. The school he works at isn’t like normal high schools and he absolutely loves his freedom to read and enjoy literature. Ellen loves her job and has uncovered some very interesting and embarrassing things about certain people. When Ellen and Gabe meet, the attraction is out of this world. Gabe does not know if he can trust Ellen because of her job. Ellen wants him to trust her, but is dead set on revealing the secret of the private high school. I have never read one of Jane Charles books, but I have to admit this was a different and refreshing taste for me. Gabe and Ellen’s pull towards each other immediately drew me in and I couldn’t wait to see what the outcome of their love would bring me. Jane Charles defiantly has you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what will exactly happen. There were times when I wanted to scream, cry, and smile. This book brings out a little bit of every emotion and I am very lucky to have had the chance to read it and experience it first-hand. Do I recommend this book to others? Yes. Is it for everyone? No, probably not, but what book is? Will I read more of Jane Charles books? Try and stop me. Her writing was great and I cannot wait to spread the word about her books and hope everyone enjoys them just as much as I have. So if you are looking for a book that will keep you on your toes and fall in love with the characters, then I would defiantly recommend checking this one out.
After a career ending injury that ruins his hopes for pro football, Gabe ends up working as an English teacher at a very private high school. It's so private in fact that a confidentiality agreement is part of his employment contract. As a former jock who had one of "those" fathers, he loves that he is now free to express his love of reading and literature and he loves the students but the school isn't like most educational establishments.
Ellen is a journalist and blogger who fights for the underdog and has managed to focus some very uncomfortable light on various dirty, corrupt and despicable people. When she overhears a conversation from a young girl about possible abuse that she's suffered at a private high school, she decides to investigate.
Gabe and Ellen's attraction is instantaneous. He's not sure he can trust her in light of her profession. She knows he's hiding something about the school but is determined to uncover its secrets all while trying to keep a potentially dangerous secret of her own.
I've only ever read Ms Charles' historical books so this was a nice change of pace for her. I liked the concept of the plot and its execution. The characters were nicely developed, including the extras. While I was able to figure out the school's "secret" fairly early, I loved how Ellen finally finds out. Nice tension, very good portrayal of the underlying issues and an easy read that wasn't bogged down in too description.
I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
Jane Charles' new book, Between the Lines, was just released. The book centers around Gabe and Ellen, and the Baxter School of the Arts. It's told from both Gabe and Ellen's first person perspectives, which is great because the reader is able to see both sides of the story as it develops.
Gabe is a teacher at the Baxter School of the Arts. Ellen is a reporter who feels that there is a story that needs to be told about Baxter. Both of them are dead set with keeping their secrets to themselves, but as their relationship grows, it becomes harder for them to not trust each other.
I really liked this book, even though it's not what I normally read. Ellen is trying to keep her past a secret, but as she falls for Gabe, she begins to trust him and share her secrets. Gabe continues to protect the school and it's secrets, but not because they are bad. It's his job to protect the students he cares about. As Ellen gets closer to the truth, she begins to understand the Baxter story. I really enjoyed the scene where she met with some of the students and heard their perspectives and stories. Without going into detail to ruin the story, the stories are what truly convinces Ellen that there is nothing shady going on at Baxter.
The ending wraps up the story nicely. I hope there are more books in this series as I'd enjoy reading about some of the other characters.
**I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.**
I was given a copy of Between the Lines from NetGalley for an honest review and this is my review.I really enjoyed this book. It was full of intrigue, romance and suspense. There was were a few really hot sex scene that lit up my Kindle but the chemistry between Ellen and Gabe called for that kind of passion. I really enjoyed how real the characters were and how they had real problems. It was also refreshing that both characters had some sort of illness or physical problem to deal with and was not totally perfect. The storyline was great with two kind of problems for Ellen to work out. The one she is hiding from in her past and the one she is trying to unravel at Baxter. It keeps the reader on their toes and guessing throughout the entire book.As I mentioned before the romance and chemistry between the characters was also very well written. They were both very believable.I highly enjoyed Between the Lines and am giving it four out of five stars.
Ellen has big secrets and if she tells anyone, it could get them killed. Gabe has secrets too. He keeps secrets to protect the kids at the school where he works. Gabe and Ellen have a whirlwind few days, their feelings are growing and then reality intrudes. She can't stay with Gabe because it puts him in danger and he thinks there is someone else. She lets him think that. But, Ellen wants to get the real story on Baxter and since Gabe teaches there, she will have to see him, even if he doesn't want anything else to do with her. Both of them are keeping secrets for good reasons, but can they work out their problem to be together?
Loved this story! The setting of this story centers around Baxter Schol of the Arts. If these isn't a school like this, there needs to be! The story of a reporter, Ellen and a teacher at the school, Gabe had me laughing at some parts, caring at others. It is definitely a feel good story, and now I need to go read the others in this series!
