An all-American teenage girl. A cherubic face. A diminutive five foot three, smelling of patchouli and strawberries. A seasoned addict at seventeen.
A social worker is faced with her most harrowing case in her teenage daughter Sarah, an IV drug user who disappears into the night on her eighteenth birthday. A year later, the author launches her quest to find her missing daughter in the catacombs of the drug world of Las Vegas.
Follow this mother as she interviews and forms alliances with clerks at cheap hotels, hard-living women of the seedy Royal Crest neighborhood, security cops at glittering casinos with stories of loss, weary homeless men with nowhere to go, a 400-pound bishop in a store-front church, and a kindhearted ex-police chief who knows the underbelly of the city. Learn what brings a mother and daughter to the brink of tragedy and the death that leads to a new life.
Fueled by courage, hope, resourcefulness and a bit of magic, the author is driven to seek redemption for her motherhood and the life of her child. Underwater will speak to and inspire anyone who has endured the heartbreak of a loved one stricken by addiction, disease, or adversity.
