Over Her Dead Body: A Psychological Thriller

Rate this book
A widow, a grave, and a husband who was supposed to be in it.

Emma Calloway has been a widow for ten years. She has the grave to prove it. She has the life to prove it, too—the career, the house, the hard-won peace of a woman who rebuilt everything around an absence.

So when she misses her flight and turns around to find her dead husband very much alive and buying coffee at the neighboring gate, Emma does what any calm, reasonable woman would do.

She gets on his flight.

Emma is excellent at reading people. It’s what makes her one of the most respected auctioneers in the business. She walks into rooms full of strangers and beautiful things, figures out what everyone is really worth, and rarely gets it wrong.

But Reid isn’t just not dead. He’s living under another name, running from something dangerous, and moving through a world Emma thought belonged to her.

The lies he left behind are nothing compared to the life he’s been living without her.

And the kind of trouble he’s in does not appreciate a very composed, very angry widow asking questions.

Unfortunately for everyone involved, Emma has never been very good at letting things go.

From bestselling psychological thriller author Britney King comes Over Her Dead Body, a sharp, darkly funny thriller for fans of Finlay Donovan Is Killing It, First Lie Wins, and Dead to Me—featuring a presumed-dead husband, a furious widow with a plane ticket to Lisbon, and one very bad week.

Another Britney King binge read! Gosh her books are hard to put down. You just know that you are in for a fun time with her books and Over Her Dead Body was fabulous. The first of a new series, featuring art specialist Emma Calloway, I am excited to see what trouble she gets herself into to next time.

So Emma is not having a great day. She overslept and has missing her flight for work and now she is racing to catch the next one before her boss notices. But as she is making her way to her departure gate she sees a man very familiar to her. But it can’t be her husband, he died 10 years ago. She arranged the funeral, it can’t be him, can it. She is not going to believe it until she talks to him so of course she misses her next flight and books herself onto the same flight as him.

Are you kidding me!! i was hooked! Who was this man and if it is her husband what is he doing alive? so many questions. It was twisty and crazy and I loved it. You never know what you are going to get with a Britney King book and that makes it so fun to dive in.

Thanks so much to Britney once again having me on your ARC team. Publishes on October 8th.

Book Title: Over Her Dead Body (Emma Calloway Book 1)
Author: Britney King
Independently published
Out Now? Y
Format: 📱📖

🗣️ Quick(ish) Take: I have never met a Britney King book I haven’t liked, and I absolutely LOVED Over Her Dead Body. This was a fast-paced thrill ride from the very beginning, and what a wild concept to have Emma’s husband, who has been ‘dead’ for 10 years, reappear. Of course, she follows him on his flight when she should be going somewhere else, and what comes after is basically pure chaos, as much as Emma tries to say otherwise and regain control of the many situations she finds herself in. There is blood, a high body count, and violence, and I will not try to tell you this isn’t a dark read. King is one of my favorite indie authors, and if you are a thriller fan, you're missing out if you don’t pick up her books. She chose a unique style for this novel, with short, punchy sentences and equally short chapters. It flies by, and I was left with my jaw on the floor. I can’t wait to see what comes next for our FMC Emma Calloway!

I will read anything King writes as her books are thrilling and always unpredictable! Emma is in the airport when she sees Reid, her supposedly-dead husband! But "Anonymous" also sees this and has a plan in mind. I raced through this one as it's about art, mistaken identity, and blood and guts (literally) but so worth it!

She has done it again! Weaved a web of full of excitement.

I was intrigued right from the beginning and spent the entire book trying to figure out what was going to happen next, and I was never able to. I was kept guessing right up until the end.

Over Her Dead Body is a brilliantly written, thought-provoking, suspenseful, captivating, and seductive psychological thriller.

Emma Calloway is a respected art appraiser. Emma is also excellent at reading human behavior. As Emma is rushing through the Austin airport to make it to her scheduled important business flight to Vienna, she sees her ex-husband, Reid, who supposedly has been dead for 10 years, buying coffee. She hastily follows him and purchases a ticket to Lisbon, Portugal, Reid’s destination. After they arrive in Lisbon, the lies, deception, fun, and suspense begin and don’t cease until the end of this gripping, addictive, nerve-rattling tale. As the story develops, Reid adopts multiple identities.

Britney King has a knack for creating interesting characters who initially seem straightforward, but subsequently dazzle the reader with complexity and twists.

King’s novels are characterized by a strong, independent female protagonist who drives the story. All previous women may need to take a back seat to Emma Calloway. I was thrilled to learn that there will be subsequent Emma Calloway books.

I particularly enjoyed the dialogue and the author’s commentary throughout this book. The funny, sarcastic dialogue made this book a dark comedy as well as a psychological thriller. I appreciated the laugh-out-loud passages that are classic Britney King.

In brief, Over Her Dead Body is a masterpiece of a well-plotted and well-paced psychological thriller. I can’t imagine anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers not loving this book. I loved everything about Over Her Dead Body and enthusiastically award it my highest possible rating. Please enjoy!

In this psychological thriller, we meet Emma Calloway, an art specialist who is set to become a partner at the firm where she works. Seeing her ‘dead’ husband at the airport naturally throws her off kilter and she does the only thing her brain demands—follow him. This starts the unraveling of his secret life and so much more.

This is a suspense-filled thriller that, at times, had me on the edge of my seat waiting to discover what would happen. What a ride readers are taken on with deception being the main attraction. To balance the darker elements some fun scenes literally had me chuckling out loud. Yes, sarcasm was used a lot but it fit each situation perfectly.

I immediately liked Emma, even though I did worry about her now and then. However, on the other hand, I didn’t like Reid, Emma’s husband. I suspect this was the author’s intent all along and it worked brilliantly. The fast-paced storyline is entertaining and interesting; I didn’t want to stop for a minute.

This is my first experience reading a book by this author and I am already
looking forward to reading the second book in this series.

Another Fantastic “What in the Heck” Read!

Britney King has become a go-to author for me. I wasn’t a huge fan when I first read one of her books, but by the end, I was hooked and I’ve loved each one since. She’s definitely got the psychological part down!

As the blurb says, Emma sees the husband she buried ten years ago in an airport, and like any normal person would, she instantly changes her plane ticket and follows him. We’re not talking a Phoenix-to-Las Vegas kind of follow. We’re talking about changing a very important business flight from Vienna to Lisbon, and it’s full gas from here until the end!

Of course, Reid, who is now Martin, annoyingly plays dumb, and it’s up to our fierce and I mean FIERCE girl to figure out what in the hell is going on. That’s another thing I appreciate about this author: a strong female lead. They don’t go around flaunting it, but try to kidnap one, and you might just lose an eye!

As we move through the chapters, quite the tale unfolds, and while I thought I had it all figured out, I did NOT.
The book is well-written and the perfect length, with steam, action, and more questions packed into every page. It’s very well-balanced! While it doesn’t necessarily announce itself as book one in a series, we’re left with quite the surprise ending, and you can count me in for the next one!

It's a wonderful day when I get a new Britney King book/ Thriller, she's amazing as are all her books each one ice rwad have been incredible reads. Not to brag but I've read all I've found published and never been disappointed. This one is just awesome she's done it again once you've read it you will see why she's my absolute favourite author.

Emma a bit surprised to see her Husband at the airport well having been to his funeral and saying goodbye 10 years ago will have that effect. So what would you do follow him of course!!! This is just an amazing well awesome read the ride is unique the twists amazing and Physiological Thriller at their best well that's how Britney does them. Incredible story telling unpredictable totally addictive and life will stop as you escape to another place you don't need a wardrobe just a Britney Thriller.. And escaping is probably the best way at the moment ?

So ratings are very limited so very restrictive when you can only give 5 for what is by far a better read than you will probably get till her next books released this could very well be the best you've read so far.

After reading No Good Deed I have always been excited to pick up another Britney King thriller. One thing I've learned with her books is to expect the unexpected, and this one definitely delivered.

Emma's life is moving in the right direction until she spots someone at an airport she never expected to see again, her husband, who supposedly died ten years ago. Instead of getting on her planned flight, she follows him, and from that moment the story takes off in a completely different direction.

Emma was smart, determined, and refused to let things go when they didn't make sense.

What I enjoyed most was how unpredictable the story was.

I also liked the dark humour scattered throughout the book.

This is the first in a new series.
Emma is an art specialist, who has been a widow for 10-years, and when she misses her flight, she sees Reid, her dead husband at a neighbouring gate, and she switches flights to follow him. Reid is going by another name, running from something dangerous, and a furious Emma is seeking answers.
This is a well written easy to read, action packed story, with lies, intrigue, suspense, secrets, tension, deception, revelation, humour, and witty banter, which leads to an entertaining, tragic, twisted, and unpredictable dark psychological thriller.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

The first book in a new series by Britney King, *Over Her Dead Body* does not disappoint. Emma Calloway, an art specialist, quickly became one of my favorite characters. Brilliant, flawed, and also a master of dark humor. And she needs that humor with everything that happens to her as soon as she sees her husband again at the airport. There’s just one small catch: he’s supposedly been dead for years. The action moves quickly, and I was trying to figure out who the culprit was the whole time—which just goes to show how well Britney King keeps the suspense going. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
Thanks for the ARC; it’s always a pleasure to discover your books.

Over Whose Body

Wow! Britney King does it again, giving readers a thrilling suspenseful roller coaster ride as they try to figure out Emma Calloway and whether she is a widow or not. Emma sees a man who looks exactly like her dead husband whom she lost 10 years ago. She follows him halfway around the world, but is it really him. And why is she in danger? This is a different style of thriller with plenty of intrigue, mystery,, and blood. If you're a fan of thrillers, you've got to read Britney King's books.Check it out, I know you'll enjoy it. I can't wait to read more of Britney King's books

Brilliant work once again!! Did Emma actually see her dead husband? Why? If it's him, where has he been? Why would he do that to his own wife?

I can't wait to read Swipe Right for Murder to see what trouble Emma finds herself in. You would think she would just stay home after what she has gone through.

Wow

Over Her Dead Body is another totally unputdownable psychological thriller by Britney King. From flow, to characters, to storyline, this one is everything I've come to expect from this author and why she's an auto-read for me. With enough twists and turns to give you whiplash and a completely unpredictable ending, I can't wait for book two!

Another book from this author I just couldn't put down. Emma Calloway is a woman you will want to meet. An art appraiser who accidentally sees her dead husband in the airport buying coffee. Things get even crazier from there. Never a dull moment. You don't know who to trust. The witty dialogue is worth the read alone. Funny. Clever. Deserves more than 5 stars.
