I really liked the first two books in this series, even though the author had the occasional infodumps.
The first two chapters of book 1 were boring, but the rest was action-packed. Combat flowed smoothly from one scene to the other. The reading was intense and realistic. You could feel the zombies attacking you and you barely escaping. Book 2 was equally good.
But I couldn't get past reading 10% of this book.
I really wanted to keep reading, and I really wanted to continue with this series.
But I can't. Not unless this book and the rest of this series gets better editing.
While the first two books had occasional infodumps about each person's backstory, it didn't slow the plot down too much.
The first two books had one editor, and this book has two editors, but reads more sloppy than the previous two.
By editing, I mean words are spelled incorrectly (such as "out skirts"), or unnecessary words are added or used incorrectly ("He'll need my help to get back in here. Frank thought." - no need for "Frank thought" since the previous phrase was in italics. There should also be a comma there if he did use it.) Once in a while, it wasn't clear who was talking. Here's one example of strange phrasing: "The gears in her head were starting to click and brainstorms were on the horizon."
I don't mind reading several typos but the strange phrases/wording and choppy sentences throughout the book, along with infodumps of backstory, and switching between many characters' perspectives, made the book frustrating to read.
I will only read this book and the rest of the series if it gets better editing. Maybe Joseph Zuko got cheated by his new editor or one or both of them are not up to industry standards, or he didn't take his editors' advice.
