Good read!

We continue to follow jim and Karen left off in book 2. I'm big fan of Jim's character tons action and even if his plans don't work out he still goes with it. Not hugh fan of Karen's she kept pushing job on someone else to do the hardest stuff then treat them differently after not cool! I'm happy they finally got to each other. Not so happy that 5 members of Jim's little group didn't make it kinda disappointed with that. But it is zombie apocalypse someone (s) has to die sooner or later.

Excellent Read

I have read the two previous books and have enjoyed the series...My only negative is that the main character has not lost any of his children or his wife...while poor Cliff lost all of his family...I find it harder after this last book to have any sympathy for Jim now. Everyone in his group has experienced loss and many died following him to get his family...He walked away from that horrid scene and Cliff's grief to be with his living family. Not really interested in a book where the main character gets to ride off in the sunset with his family...no really believable.

Zombie apocalyptic gorefest

This is a great zombie apocalypse and reset. As you follow a group of survivors trying to make it to their families in separate groups and together you are with them as they succeed and fail. This group just cannot seem to catch a break. But they fight and strive to survive. You cannot help but read it from beginning to end
It is zombie killing at its best. They use almost every method available to them to take down the zombies and watch out for the human scum that still roaming the earth trying to take advantage of and destroy normal human beings as they try to survive.

I'm surprised this book has such high ratings! I really liked Jim's first day but hated Karen's. This was almost as bad as Karen's (book 2). I had to skip through everything that was about Karen and/or her 2 kids. She is an idiot (Facebook junkie, wtf!), and the kid talk and minutiae was just plain annoying. There was way too much personal reflection and talk about memories and all they had lost. Boring dorks in a ZA. No more for me. Oh! I almost forgot, THE WORST part was all mammals get the virus. That's stupid. No one, NO ONE, would survive if that was the case. Totally dumb!

This book takes right over where book 2 ended...Jim leaves the home of his upstairs neighbors after a fire started and quickly engulfed the building. The group had to vacate quickly leaving all their supplies and weapons in the flames. With nowhere else to go, Cliff and his family joined Jim on the trek across town to his mother-in-law's home where he hoped to find his family waiting.

Meanwhile, Karen and her group fortified her mother's home after burying her dead, turned mother. It's also the start of day two in the Apocolypse - Frank and Troy temporarily leave the barricaded home to scavenge for supplies. Right after they left, a strange pick-up with six armed men arrived and tried to gain entry into Karen's home. She allows the leader of the group inside and it turned out to be the biggest mistake of her life.

Right about that time, Jim, Cliff, his family, and others arrived at the home and wondered among themselves why five armed men were standing on the MIL's porch. It was quiet until the leader called out from inside to kill everyone. This started a gunfight, lopsided at first, which alerted Troy and Frank to the trouble. Both quickly got into their vehicle and returned to the home - joining in the fight. It was devastating and many people died.

I quickly downloaded book four and jumped into it to see what happens next. The author did a wonderful job at weaving these two stories together. The ending also leaves readers breathless and heartbroken. They also discover that survival in this new world now required them to win all future battles against both the zombies and human mobs.

Love this series. Writing this after listening to the first 5 books. Starting 6 today.
The characters are just your every day normal people. Think you and your neighbors! You get an almost minute by minute play out of the zombie outbreak. The action is nonstop. Jim is our hero & Karen is a bad ass and I love them both so much! We get a few new characters in each book. No one is safe!
Jim & Karen will do anything to keep their girls safe! The action in this one is nonstop as well. This is a great series! I’ve been binging it!
Tom Bishop did an amazing job narrating. I usually don’t like it when a narrator is changed in a series but Tom did a great job so I was completely ok with this.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review

I'm done with Jim and his annoying family. Frank and Sara alone won't do it for me, once Jim found his family fuck everyone else, Cliff's family got killed and Jim just walked away.

His thoughts: ,"Jim thought about what he would do if it was his family in that van. He didn’t need to see any more of this and began to head back inside. The thrill of holding his family tight to his chest was too great. He needed to feel their love before he lost his mind like his neighbor.
He would cry for Devon later.
He would mourn with Cliff later.”

Awesome

Gotta change your request for reviews, you are repeating the same words at the end of each book and being the great writer that you are, you can surely write another request. Another great book. But did the good guy (Devon) have to die? On to the next book......

Fascinating, exhilarating, heart wrenching

I have really enjoyed the series so far, so heart wrenching, so thrilling, so nauseating for the loss of life from both the infected and idiot humans in this book, so sad, that humans can’t work together

I’m getting into this series. The narrator threw me off for a bit. This is the third one. The accents were a bit off. The struggle and the story keeps getting better and better. The ending had me on pins and needles. Looking forward to the new book.

Great Series

Zuko doesn't let us rest any more than his protagonists get to! This book keeps you on the edge of your seat. It is not a children's or young adults book, however. This is the third book in the series; each one seems to get a little better.

Those Zombies!

I have read these three books so far....and I love them!!! I do not appreciate the language that seems to get worse with each successive book so I am unsure if I will be getting the next one. Overall I really enjoyed it though.

The story continues in dark and powerful ways. Life is not easy in the midst of a zombie apocalypse, nosireebob! And the end of this one? Ugh! Zuko continues to weave an engaging and disparate tale of survival, and no one is making it through unscathed.

Characters well developed. Just snarky enough 😏 and a new take on the zombie genre. Read it. You won't be disappointed!

I really liked the first two books in this series, even though the author had the occasional infodumps.

The first two chapters of book 1 were boring, but the rest was action-packed. Combat flowed smoothly from one scene to the other. The reading was intense and realistic. You could feel the zombies attacking you and you barely escaping. Book 2 was equally good.

But I couldn't get past reading 10% of this book.

I really wanted to keep reading, and I really wanted to continue with this series.

But I can't. Not unless this book and the rest of this series gets better editing.

While the first two books had occasional infodumps about each person's backstory, it didn't slow the plot down too much.

The first two books had one editor, and this book has two editors, but reads more sloppy than the previous two.

By editing, I mean words are spelled incorrectly (such as "out skirts"), or unnecessary words are added or used incorrectly ("He'll need my help to get back in here. Frank thought." - no need for "Frank thought" since the previous phrase was in italics. There should also be a comma there if he did use it.) Once in a while, it wasn't clear who was talking. Here's one example of strange phrasing: "The gears in her head were starting to click and brainstorms were on the horizon."

I don't mind reading several typos but the strange phrases/wording and choppy sentences throughout the book, along with infodumps of backstory, and switching between many characters' perspectives, made the book frustrating to read.

I will only read this book and the rest of the series if it gets better editing. Maybe Joseph Zuko got cheated by his new editor or one or both of them are not up to industry standards, or he didn't take his editors' advice.

Good Series with lots of Action

I've been pleasantly surprised by this series. I go through so many zombie and non-zombie apocalypse books in a week that it's tough to find one I haven't tried. The characters in this story are reasonably well developed and the non-stop action is both entertaining and plausible. This series is like the, "24" of the zombie apocalypse. A lot happens to these characters in a day. Even Jack Bauer might have a hard time keeping up with Jim. Thanks for the entertaining read!

EXCELLENT!

Very well written from start to finish. Different from other stories I have read. I love the suspense in every chapter. The ending came too soon! I am curious why the people that are killed by gunfire turn into zombies? For instance the housewife that Karen and Leon shot.

This book was the first of three I have read. Now I have to read one and two! Thanks again for good story telling!
