From the creator of I Wrote This For You, comes a collection of 300 things that the author, Iain S. Thomas, and artist, Carla Kreuser, truly and sincerely hope for you – from hoping that you always have a pen, to hoping that you’re never lonely, and everything in-between. This collection of hope will move you and remind you of what’s important in life as you live it. Or at least, that’s what they hope.
"Iain S. Thomas is the #1 bestselling author of I Wrote This For You and Intentional Dissonance. He wrote his first book, Ignite, at the age of 23 for the Markham clothing store. It won the Grand Prix at the First Paper House Art Of Design Awards and the only craft prize awarded that year, in the design category, at the national design/advertising awards (The Loeries).
As a creative director, he’s a champion for innovative design and communication for his clients which have included Nike, Levi’s, Johnny Walker, The Design Indaba, MTN, apple and many more, from Los Angeles, to Amsterdam, to Johannesburg, to Cape Town. His work has spanned everything from monuments to biodegradable posters.
In 2009, for his work as the author of the art/photography project “I Wrote This For You”, he was voted one of the top 5 finalists in the world in the “Best Blogger To Follow” category on mashable.com under his online pseudonym, pleasefindthis.
The project, which has proven incredibly popular across the world and gone on to become a best selling book, has also afforded him numerous exciting opportunities, including an invitation to dinner with the US Ambassador to South Africa, Donald Gipps as a consultant on digital development within South Africa, and a speaking spot at TEDx Johannesburg.
Through the project, he was also able to have skateboards delivered to The Uganda Skateboard Union on behalf of Stacy Peralta, director of Dogtown And Z-Boys and Riding Giants and he’s previously acted as a creative consultant to Brian Wayne Transeau or “BT” (whose previous collaborators include Peter Gabriel, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and David Bowie, amongst others) on his last album, If The Stars Are Eternal, So Are You And I.
His work has won numerous local and international awards and can be found in Communication Arts, Design Indaba Magazine, Ad Vantage Magazine, bestadsontv.com, Contagious Magazine, Archive, The University of Pretoria’s Permanent Design Collection, X-ings: Shaping Culture Through Design Exhibition, The United Nations Gallery of Sustainable Communication, TEDx, Heso Magazine (Japan) and http://www.inpursuitofelegance.com
Iain’s work focuses on non-traditional media in all its forms. He has never once really and truly enjoyed a long walk on a beach." - source
"I hope you never become something you hate." "I hope you think big thoughts when you look at the stars." "I hope you learn the difference between giving up and changing direction." "I hope you always get what you deserve." "I hope people get you blank books for Christmas every year because you’re always filling them with ideas." "I hope you love the shapes you see in clouds."
"94. I hope you remember that everything leaves a mark and that that is a double-edged sword, that the marks are beautiful and that the marks are scars and both cut you out of the universe, define you and make you, you."
You're getting exactly what you paid for. 300 things that Iain hopes for you.
It took me a while to finish it, I was lucky to get my copies 3 weeks before it came out.
This book is in no way deep or thought provoking, but its cute and nice to hear good things.
It's a nice gift for someone who thinks too hard and needs a good pick me up. This would have been great as a 300 day nice thing counter. Like you rip out a page every day, to hear something positive.
Is it worth $11.39? Probably not that much. It would have been better off being about 6 bucks, but I really enjoy St. Thomas, so supporting him came easy.

The “300 things I hope” book highlights arbitrary thoughts the author hopes for its readers. It has cute, short and inspiring passages that will make you laugh and feel touched at the same time.
The contents of the title may seem simple, but they are directly to the point. The random approach used by the author induces a plethora of feelings to the readers. Some of the words ponder on issues one wouldn’t expect to read (e.g. a person hoping for another) but it touches one in subtle ways and I really liked it the way it is.
"I hope you never hate anything longer than you need to.
I hope you die knowing that there was no end to the road and that the road was all there ever was, and that all that mattered was how well you walked each individual step of it.
I hope you take pictures of the things you love. I hope no one deletes them by mistake
I hope you find the truth at the top of the bottle and not at the bottom of it.
I hope you never feel like you’re falling apart.
I hope you always remember to swim back up, from anything."
This book is a reminder of how it is to live and how it feels to be loved. I like how the author uses uncomplicated words that stir the deepest emotions within me.
Here are some of the lines that I love:
-I hope you remember everything leaves a mark, which is a double-edged sword. The marks are beautiful and the marks are scars. Both cut you out of the universe, define you and make you, you.
-I hope you read the books you love reading and that reading never feels hard work.
-I hope you never sell who you could be to become a safe nobody.
-I hope you always get what you deserve and that what you deserve, is love.
-I hope you're always brave and know that the only time you can be brave is when you're really afraid.
My cousin recommended me this book & she gave me a gift to share what she has read. The book tells me what the author hopes for us to travel our journey & ofc I feel a little bit of healing afterwards.
I was really fortunate to receive an early review copy of this book from the publisher. To be honest, I hadn't read anything written by Mr. Thomas yet, so I was going in blind. I came out a fan. This book was absolutely amazing. It was sweet, funny, touching, insightful, romantic, and thought provoking. Each line begins with the words, I Hope, and are followed by a wish the author hopes the reader experiences (or doesn't in some cases). It's the perfect book to pick up when you're feeling a little melancholy, or when you simply need a bit of inspiration or motivation. It serves as a great reminder that life is filled with little things that are magical, and wonderful, and that we shouldn't let them pass us by unnoticed. I think that's one of my favorite things about this book, you don't have to sit down and read it straight through in one sitting. Honestly, in my opinion, you might even get more from reading a couple pages a day. Give yourself some time to ruminate, because even the ones that sound silly at first start seeming sweet and insightful a half hour later. This is definitely a book worth picking up!
“I hope someone gives you this book or you find it at a time when you need it.” The beginning itself is just so beautiful. It’s an amazing book, one of my favorites quotes is “I hope you remember that everything leaves a mark, which is a double-edged sword. The marks are beautiful and the marks are scars, and both cut you out of the universe, define you and make you, you”
“I hope you are touched by the smallest gesture of friendship.”
“I hope it feels like your muscles are singing when you exercise.”
“I hope you learn the difference between the easy thing, the hard thing, the smart thing and the right thing.”
These are just a few of the things Iain S. Thomas includes in his book, 300 Things I Hope. Many are thoughtful, like the ones above. Some are whimsical and fun, like, “I hope you cover something in stickers.” Some are kind of silly, like, “I hope you get to meet aliens or your favorite band.”
But all of the things that Thomas hopes are thought provoking. Some are sure to bring a smile to your face, others may prompt you to look at life and the people you encounter differently. Carla Kreuser’s black and white line drawings are sometimes spare, sometimes bold, depending on the hope illustrated.
This little gem of a book can be read one page at a time in sequential order or opened at random to provide food for thought. It would make a great gift on a special occasion.
The publisher provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
When I read the synopsis for this book I said, "Oh, a fun little read!" This is exactly what this was. It was a perfect leisurely Sunday morning read over brunch. Iain S. Thomas has compiled a range of little snippets of things, all starting with "I hope..." and all only a sentence a two. Sometimes they are light and funny, sometimes they are short and serious, but they all got me thinking.
I thought this was a cute little inspirational book. It is poetry and can be read all at once but I would rather read a page or a few each day. I would like to use this in my middle school classrooms. During some point in the day we can take time to read a short part and reflect on what we read. I think it would bring some relaxation and good thoughts, even funny one's, into the classroom.
